Here are your white starters for Pat Fitzgerald and Northwestern this year. Fitzgerald, himself a Northwestern LB during the 1990’s, has brought the program back, going 10-3 last year. This year, more of the same is expected from Fitzgerald. QB Trevor Siemian is in a timeshare again this year with Kain Colter. Northwestern has a young QB named Matt Alliviti, who will be a great QB at Northwestern in the mold of CJ Bacher, Mike Kafka, and Dan Persa. So, regardless of who starts the game at QB, both will play a lot of minutes again this year, with Siemian counted, Northwestern will have 11 starters this year, still managing to hold on to it’s half white team status. Remember when Northwestern had two starting white safeties, and 3 starting WRs? Those days seem to be long gone now as Northwestern gets more competitive, they get the “privilegeâ€￾ of recruiting more real athletes, instead of all those white overachievers that put them on the map in the first place. White backups to look for include: RB Mike Trumpy, WRs Mike McHugh and Mike Jensen, SB Mark Szott, LT Shane Mertz, LG Hayden Baker, C Ian Park, RG Adam DePietro, RT Eric Olson, and DT Greg Kuhar. I’m bloody sick of these teams having next to zero white reserve defenders. This is becoming a disturbing trend in college football these days. Since 2005, Northwestern has started 12, 13, 15, 14, 15, 16, 15, and 11 white starters. Expect that 11 to hold on for one more year before the unthinkable happens: Northwestern will no longer be a half white team next year; DE Tyler Scott will graduate and be replaced by a black. I’m hoping another white can step up and at least keep the Wildcats half white.
