Vandy was the only majority white team in the SEC in 2006 and 2008. Bobby Johnson has trended blacker than past coaches in recruiting, but his starters have been surprisingly white.

Offense
WR (S) John Cole
TE Austin Monahan
LT Thomas Welch
LG Ryan Custer
C Bradley Vierling
RG Eric Hensley

Defense
DT T.J. Greenstone
DE Tim Fugger
DT Adam Smotherman
WLB Patrick Benoist
SS Ryan Hamilton

it should tell coaches, fans, and the media just how valuable white athletes are whenthe three captains selected bya majority black footballteam are white players. this is the case atVanderbilt. the three captains are Vierling, Benoist, and Hamilton.

"funny" how that works, isn't it? "strangely" though, i doubt if any media "reporters" will report on this fact.Edited by: Jimmy Chitwood

A little update. I've read in sources that say redshirt freshman WR Ryan Cole is in the hunt to start at one of the WR spots.

On another note, Bobby Johnson better not be giving Jared Hawkins' carries away to true freshmen RBs. I've read that he is considering it.

This question is a bit off subject but what ever happened to Jared McGrath? I believe he used to play for Vanderbilt.

I hope Ryan Cole does end up starting. Then we'd really have something to cheer about with this team, especially with Jared Hawkins running the ball.

whiteathlete33, Jared McGrath played for Vandy through the 2000 season. He went undrafted in the 2001 NFL Draft and was signed as a free agent by San Francisco on April 25, 2001. They released him exactly a month later. I don't knwo what happened to him after that. Looks like he fell info the white athlete memory hole like so many victims of the caste system before him. Its a shame.

Here's the cover of Vandy's 2009 media guide. Its a wonder they let more whites be on the cover than blacks, considering the engineered diversity of the current era.

Vanderbilt coaches reined in senior tailback Jared Hawkins on the second day of football camp, halting his physical activity after letting him perform some drills Friday.

Hawkins, who had a screw removed from his foot in May after offseason surgery, sat out spring drills. He was without a helmet Saturday and handed off the football to other backs during practice.
Hawkins is the team's only experienced player at tailback (593 yards last season) and Coach Bobby Johnson sees no reason to push him.
"They're trying to make sure I ease back into things," Hawkins said. "It (the foot) feels pretty good. It's a pain being on the sideline so long. I hate standing around. It's painful sitting here watching."
the good news isthat it finally looks likethe coaches recognize that Jared is the man at tailback.

Vandy's athletic starting white DE Steven Stone will miss at least 6 weeks (3 games) with a broken foot. The good news is that his backup, Tim Fugger, is also white.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Steve Stone, Vanderbilt starting defensive
end, will miss at least six weeks because of a broken right foot.

Coach Bobby Johnson said Stone took a bad step on a routine play in practice Monday.

He has started every game the past two seasons. Stone's five sacks last season tied for the team lead.

He likely will miss September games against Western Carolina, LSU and Mississippi State.

Updated Vandy's white starters. Looks like Johnson wants to shoot himself in the foot again by using another black QB over Mackenzi Adams.

Just updated Vandy's starters again. I'm not convinced that Jared Hawkins will be the starter whenever he gets back, as Stacy has done enough to win the position for most Caste coaches. Also, a couple of other starters have changed.

Black Vandy signee gets capped by Narjaketha's (his momma) ex-boyfriend. At least Rajaan had a good smile.

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. (AP)

A high school football star who had signed to play at Vanderbilt
University was shot to death early Thursday by his mother's
ex-boyfriend shortly after police arrived to investigate a report
of a person with a weapon, authorities said.

Officers heard four or five gunshots around 2:30 a.m. as they
arrived at the home where Rajaan Bennett, 18, lived with his
mother, said Powder Springs Maj. Charles Spann. Inside they found
Bennett, a running back at McEachern High School who was rated
among Georgia's top college football prospects, dead of a gunshot
wound.

Boyd said Clifton Steger, 39, of Milledgeville shot Bennett
and then killed himself. Bennett's uncle, Taiwan Hunter, 32, was
wounded and underwent surgery. He was in critical condition
Thursday afternoon. His mother, Narjaketha Bennett, and two other
children were unharmed.

It was not clear what prompted the shooting, but Spann said
there was no sign of a struggle. He also said there had been no
previous reports of domestic violence at the west Georgia home.

"We are still investigating," he said. "We won't make any
assumptions until we finish our investigation."

McEachern football coach Kyle Hockman said while Bennett
excelled on the football field - he rushed for more than 1,800
yards and 28 touchdowns last season - he also led an exemplary life
outside of sports.

"He was an All-State football player, but he was a better
person," he said. "He touched the lives of thousands."

Bennett picked Vanderbilt over other schools because he felt
it would help better prepare him for life after football, Hockman
said. Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson said in a statement that
Bennett "was an extraordinary young man and an ideal fit" for his
program.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his mother Narjaketha and
family members," he said. "I know he meant so much to them."

Bennett, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., had an outsized
reputation at McEachern, a sprawling school on the outskirts of
west Atlanta that sports a football field in the middle of campus.

"We have a population of 2,200 kids, and when you're Rajaan
Bennett, you touch the lives of all 2,200," said principal Regina
Montgomery, who added that counselors will be on hand to help
students.

More than 100 hundred students gathered at a somber
candelight vigil in the pavement surrounding a park near the
school, singing songs and sharing stories about Bennett. A poster
sat near the middle of the vigil that read: "God only takes the
best."

"He always had a smile on his face. He was definitely a
leader. He was no follower," said Keyon McGhee, a 17-year-old
senior. "It will be hard to get over this. Everybody knew him, even
the freshmen."
