Schlegel and Carpenter have been forced to go the junkyard dog route so many white football players are forced to endure. Schlegel was discarded by the Jets and picked up by the convict-dominated Bengals, where he languishes as a backup.

Carpenter is an offense to Dallas' long-standing tradition of all-black defenses. I can't think of a linebacker drafted in the first round who has had less opportunity to play.

Some troll can come on here and explain how Carpenter hasn't been able to pick up the nuances of the Cowboys' defense, or how Schlegel is too slow, but I'll be glad to bet anyone that if/when both ever get a chance to start with some regularity, both will do well if not be stars.

Schlegel played well in what were very limited opportunities with Bengals. what happened to Carpenter might be the biggest defensive caste screw up this side of Dustin Fox. let's hop he can get out of Dallas and go on to at least have a shot somewhere else...

Ohio state always seems to get the top linebackers in the country and they are usually white. This is one of the few colleges out east here that allows whites to excel at the linebacker position.

Schlegel had a few starts this year for the Bengals.. I didn't really watch too much to say how well he did, however

Schlegel has 33 tackles in limited action, so that seems pretty good. He only started those few games earlier in the season because almost the entire Bengals LB corps was wiped out by injury.

Carpenter is just getting screwed by the Cowboys. I mean why did they waste a 1st Rd pick on a guy who they knew they weren't going to play. Bobby is a great athlete who deserves to play somewhere. Schlegel is trying to latch on with the Bengals and we'll see how that turns out. Oh and Dustin Fox is buried on the Bills depth chart but at least he's still at corner.

Don't worry about Bobby Carpenter. Sure, he's been shafted. But, he'll be starting by next season. The same thing happened to Keith Brooking in 1998 when he was Atlanta's first round pick. He didn't play much during the Falcon's Super Bowl run that year. But, I remember watching a playoff game that year when he was playing in Atlanta's nickel package. He tackled a running back for a loss in a really explosive manner. I remember John Madden getting really pumped up, he was like "that's Atlanta's 1st round pick Brooking all over that play, that running back had no chance to get away from that quick, strong rookie".

We know our white brothers are discriminated against, but in the end they win the battle. Hawk is a more fundamentally sound, instinctive linebacker, while Carpenter has better physical tools. Carpenter has more upside, I hope he gets the most out of it, and both him and Hawk are perennial Pro Bowlers.

Schlegel will be a starter if he stays healthy. He's one tough guy, having started his career at the Air Force Academy prior to transferring to Ohio State. He'll have a long NFL career, he's just too good.

It's ironic that all three of these Ohio State men are in the NFL, while the most highly touted Buckeye linebacker at the time these guys were in school was Mike D'Andrea.

The cream always rises to the top. Matt Wilhelm, who played for Ohio State in the 2001 National Championship Game, is proving to be a legitimate stud for San Diego. I believe he was drafted in the 4th or 5th round back in 2002. Now, we'll get to see him make big plays in the playoffs.

however it's a second wasted season for Carpenter, he is not a rookie. at least last year he had 1.5 sacks, whereas this year he has 15 tackles and plays little to no defense. he sure is a stud on STs, had 3 tackles in last game... way to use their 1st round talent.

Yeah the funny thing was Mike D'Andrea was supposed to be Tom Cousinou, Chris Speilman, and Andy Katzenmoyer all rolled into one. Meanwhile AJ Hawk was nothing more than an afterthought and was the 2nd last Buckeye in the 2002 recruiting class to get a scholarship(of course Heisman winner Troy Smith was last)its funny how the two best players in the class were the last two to get a ride. It's just another example of how recruiting is such an inexact science.

Also if you guys want to know who the next great Buckeye LB will be look no further than Ross Homan. He medical red shirted this season after playing last year as a true freshman. This kid is gonna be a good one mark my words!

WhiteCB, how is Ohio State's recruiting class looking as far as white LBs goes? Do you expect any true freshmen to play in 2008?
