Football pundits are scratching their heads in frustration over McNabb's meltdown during the "Superbowl".When the game was on the line as was the case with many of his post season games the last few years, heexperienced brain spasms.

Sports writer McGinn was quicktoremind us of Brady's supposed athletic deficiencies, by publishing his time in the forty yard dash and the vertical leap. Now, he did mention that Brady scored 33 on the Wonderlic, which is quite good. I am sure Peyton Manning also scored rather well.

It would seem the vertical leap is not all that important regarding the QB position. In pressure packed do or die games reputations are built or lost. Everybody looks good until the intensity and scheme of the game ratchets up to a higher level. The game moves quickly and is frustrating for some while impossible for others!

That being said, does anyone know the Wonderlic scores of McNabb, or Vick for that matter? I'm sure their vertical's are pretty good.

I just Googled "Wonderlic score" and at the top is this website, which has the QB scores going back a few years:

http://www.unc.edu/~mirabile/Wonderlic.htm

From a quick glance through them, Quincy Carter is the only black quarterback who didn't have a low score. McNabb had a 12 and 16, Vick a 20.

Don,

Thanks for the link. I realize football isn't rocket science and you don't need to be a genius to play well but nonetheless, Wonderlich scores are quite revealing. No wonder we hear about times for the forty trumpeted but little about intelligence testing.

Some players have taken the test more than once in an effort to improve a low score. These are not trustworthy since it is highly unlikely one could go from a 15 to a 37 as in the case of Akili Smith. Because of agents and big money, cheating is not out of the question. Initial scores are probably valid, so I used them.

The current starting black QB's who also happen to be known for their running ability were listed. McNabb 12, McNair 15, Culpepper 15, Brooks 17 and Vick 20. Their combined average score is slightly under 16. No wonder they run as often as throw, they probably get confused and take off.

I read a few articles about Kerry Collins indicating he was a tad slow upstairs. Of course no one would say that about a black. Kerry's score was listed at 30.

I did not find Peyton Manning's but think I read somewhere it was in the 40's, his brother Eli was at 39. Bledsoe and Griese were at the upper 30's and many otherwhiteswere in the 30's and upper twenties. Of course there are a few exceptions but the over all results are in line with what most people know to be true but are too afraid to acknowledge.

If QB's other than Manning were calling all their plays who would excell, it would be interesting to see wouldn't it?

I thought McNabb's scores would be a little higher, as he grew up in an overwhelming white, middle class suburban environment. Guess it's yet another piece of ammo for the nature advocates in the nature vs. nurture argument over IQs.

Don, you've reminded me of that old jingle. "You can take Salem out of the country but...you can't take the country out of Salem."

NFL.com's gil brandt reports that HARVARD QB Ryan FITZPATRICK scored a perfect 50 on his wonderlic, tying pat mcillany's perfect from years back, although he did it in only 9 minutes...!

nfl.com/draft/story/8235750

but other sources have it at 38...many of these kids scored well over30 anyway...i'm beginning to question the accuracy of the wonderlic, as many of these guys have obviously been heavily coached to exceptional scores...Jason CAMPBELL's listed as a 28...he basically walked into the combine, did no drills, then scored well on the wonderlic, and for this his stock is rising...

brock BERLIN scored a 13! Is this guy really that dumb?

I remember reading that Kevin CURTIS scored a 48...

Steve Sailer at his website isteve.com has some good stuff on the wonderlic scores. he even has a conversion factor to figure IQ from wonderlic results. Caution though, if you are not familiar with Sailer he is extremely frustrating to castefootball fans as he is a complete buy in to total black athletic supremacy.
