Too bad Chavez, Jr had the high fever, Wolak will face Jose Pinzon instead.

I dunno what to do with this one, but I'll leave it as a reminder, of what could've been.

Pawel Wolak Replaces Injured Alfonso Gomez Against Julio Cesar Chavez</font>

Top Rank Promotions has announced that junior middleweight (154 pounds) contender Pawel Wolak (pictured at right) of New Jersey will replace injured Alfonso Gomez as the Dec. 4 opponent against junior middleweight and middleweight (160 pounds) prospect Julio Cesar Chavez of Mexico at The Pond in Anaheim, Calif..

Nicknamed "The Raging Bull," the 29-year-old Wolak (27-1, 17 knockouts) had originally been slated to face the 24-year-old Chavez (40-0-1, 30 KOs) before Chavez became a consideration to meet WBA junior middleweight king Miguel Cotto (35-2, 28 KOs) of Puerto Rico.

As a result, Chavez decided not to fight Wolak, who already had begun training for the bout, choosing to instead concentrate on his match up with Cotto.

Cotto, later, decided to take the year off rather than face Chavez, who then elected to instead face Gomez (22-4-2, 11 KOs),.

Gomez withdrew on Wednesday after an MRI detected a ligament tear in his left elbow.

"It's a great opportunity. We're very much looking forward to the fight. And I think that the fight has been overdue, and Pawel is ready to go," said Wolak's manager, Ivan Edwards, adding that his fighter already had been training for a December 16 fight that had been scheduled to take place in New York City.

"Wolak, right now, is pretty much on schedule for this fight. We're going to take the training to another level now over the next couple of days," said Edwards of Wolak, who is ranked No. 7 by the WBA. "One of the reasons that I was pushing so hard for Wolak to have a fight in December was that I always wanted to be ready in the event that something like this happened so that we could step right in."

The son of the former multi-world champion by the same name, Chavez is coming off of July's unanimous decision over New York's John Duddy (29-2, 18 KOs) at The Alamo dome in San Antonio, Texas.

Wolak, of Mount Arlington, N.J., is coming off of a June 5, unanimous decision over James Moore (17-3, 10 KOs) of New York, that took place at Yankee Stadium. Wolak has won six straight fights, three of them by knockout.

Don't know much about Wolak, but your right, it a huge opportunity for him beating Chavez Jr. Junior looked sensational against top contender Duddy last time out. With Roach guiding him he has really improved and gotten himself into tip top condition.

If Chavez shows up like he did against Duddy the odds of Wolak are slim.

Regarding Junior's fantasy against emerging Superstar Martinez, he will end up like Williams. Face first and comatose!

The fight is now at 165lb instead of the initially agreed upon 157lb

That will no doubt help the much bigger Chavez Jr. Wolak has been a career 154lber.

What this tells me is that Chavez Jr is lazy and is about 180 lbs right now. I guess he needs adult supervision from Roach 24/7.

At the rate Chavez is "growing" we might have a viable challenger for Wlad in 2011...

Chavez Jr Pulls Out

This morning Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. woke up with a 102.8-degree temperature and was officially taken off Saturday night's show in Anaheim, California. Chavez' scheduled opponent Pawel Wolak will still fight Saturday against Jose Pinzon (15-1). The Top Rank pay-per-view card will go on with two-division world champion Nonito Donaire (24-1, 16 KOs) in a 12-round bantamweight battle against former WBA bantamweight champion Wladimiro Sidorenko (22-2-2, 7 KOs), WBC lightweight champion Humberto Soto (53-7-2, 32 KOs) against Urbano Antillon (28-1, 20 KOs) and undefeated lightweight contender Mikey Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs), in a 10-rounder against Olivier Lontchi (18-1-2, 8 KOs).

Pawel was in big trouble in the second round, nearly stopped. I only saw the second half of the round and he was knocked down at least once. Now at the end of the fifth and Pawel hurt Pinzon badly. This an entertaining scrap.

Wolak wins by TKO in the 7th round!

It was kind of a strange stoppage. Pawel was hurting Pinzon and was in control at the time, he nailed Pinzon with a hard right in the center of the ring, Pinzon clinched immediately following the shot and the referee came in and waved it off. If the referee had let it continue, I think it was only a matter of time before Pinzon would have been knocked out.
