Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson

Wladimir Klitschko said in a BBC interview today he will face WBO mandatory challenger Tony Thompson on either July 5 or 12 in Germany. He said he will fight his IBF mandatory, Alexander Povetkin, before the end of the year.

He said after Povetkin, he will try to arrange a fight with the winner of the WBA heavyweight title fight between Nicolay Valuev and Ruslan Chagaev, in order to unify the WBO, IBF and WBA titles.

The ideal date for the Kltschko/Thompson fight would be July 5 in Germany which would be July 4 in the U.S.. That way Americans would be at home to watch the fireworks of Klitschko detonating Thompson -which he will.

Klitschko it seems is more comfortable fighting guys his own size(Austin,Bostice,McCline,Jefferson,Williamson) so a early KO wouldn't suprise me. The few fights I've seen of Thompson lead me to suggest he'll be no threat to Wlad power wise. Throws too many arm punches to hurt Wlad. Edited by: shawn1262231

ESPN's Dan Rafael reported today that the fight is set for July 12 in Germany, televised by HBO.

They're just waiting word from the IBF that it will be okay to wait until fall to fight Povetkin, then it will become official.

I can't wait for this fight. Wlads last fight wasn't too exciting but I expect this one to be a barn burner. He will win by knock out. Tony Thompson hasn't lost in 8 years but that is because he hasn't faced Wladimir "KO" Klitschko. It will be a great birthday present even though it's 2 days prior. I'm getting pumped for this fight.

Yeah I am also getting pumped for this fight. Wlad needs to bomb out this latest "American Negro Hope." He needs to make a statement. I hear this Thompson has sneaky power. Wlad will have to smart and not get careless. When Wlad fights I always get nervous, in that he doesn't have the strongest whiskers or if he gets tired.

I the last several fights he seems to have improved his stamina and improved his ability to take a solid shot. I see a fifth or eighth round stoppage. Go Wlad!

I am so excited. In Australia, we are unable to see many big fights here. Even with Pay per view, and cable tv we still are unable to see many of the fights that are televised on cable in the states. Anyway, the Wladimir Klitschko/Tony Thompson fight is gonna be on free tv.

That's right. To any other Aussies that may frequent caste football, be advised that the Wladimir fight will air live at 6:00 in the morning on Sunday Eastern time on channel 10. WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is great aussieaussie31. My question to you is when can I come visit Australia?

I want to go so bad. I hear the women are incredibly beautiful and from the few I've met in the states, I have to say I agree.

The fight should be great. This guy is tough and Wlad. needs to be prepared. I still don't see him losing. I just wish I could run to Vegas and throw some money on it. Enjoy the fight my friend. You guys down under really deserve it!

He needs to impress Saturday. His critics are out again writing biased articles as you can imagine. They couldn't say sh*t when he disposed of Brock,Byrd,Brewster and Austin but they were waiting to pounce on him for any little slip up or difficult fight(Ibragimov). It's still a lose-lose situation for Wladimir, if he beats Thompson they'll say "so what Thompson's a bum" if he struggles a little he'll get criticized. Bottom line Wladimir needs to knock him out in a dominating fashion so they'll have little to complain about. Wlad in 7 rounds or less.

I really hope Wlad stops Thompson early. It seems his 44 KO's are not good enough, or all forgotten because Sultan (one of the best in the division) went the distance with him.

Wlad, like I stated earlier needs to make a statement. I have never seen Thompson fight, so I don't know how Wlad should approach this fight. The only thing I do know, is that he better be slamming that jab in Thompson's face and lower the right hand somewhere in the third or fourth rounds.

Black people root for their fighters becasue they are black. White people root for their boxers becasue of years of having to deal with this black athletic superiority crap. Its not hard to root for the underdog though be it myth or not. I just like good boxing but with all the black idiots out there more power to Klitchko and fighters like Pavlik and hope they keep breaking the myth and other stereotyping.
I love the black argument that there are no good black heavyweights anymore becasue they are all in the NFL. I would love to see any NFL linebacker take on Klitchko and see what happens.
