Fightnews.com send condolences to the Klitschko Brothers who are mourning the passing of their father Wladimir Klitschko Rodionovich, who passed away yesterday in Kiev at the age of 64 after a long bout with cancer. The senior Klitschko had been one of the commanders in charge of the cleanup after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. He was able to see his son Wladimir Klitschko bring the final piece of the undisputed heavyweight title into the Klitschko family from a hospital bed in Hamburg. Both brothers were at his side until the last.

Sad news. Papa K kept a low profile for years. Unlike other fathers of modern sports superstars he never tried to create a media niche for himself. Also in the lead up to the fight with Haye ;Wlad never mentioned his father's sickness, and I suspect wouldn't have used it as an excuse if Haye had won their fight.
