Of course the hiring of Willie Randolph had to be portrayed partly as a brilliant hiring move, partly as yet another ongoing chapter of the endless book known as the "struggle for civil rights." Missing from this article is any kind of anecdotal evidence of how Randolph was abused or otherwise mistreated at any time in his life because of his race -- "Randolph Just What Mets Need":

Interesting observation Don,and right on the money. The Mets released themselves from another white manager who was the victim of blatant discrimination in Pittsburgh, when Lloyd McLendon was hired.Ken Macha,Grady Little, and Buck Showalter also showed interest in the Pirates job.The second New York team is being put together to reflect the population of the city, and it seems as if Pittsburgh is following the same tact.
