I'm not a huge college basketball fan but I always follow around tourny time. Can someone do a rundown of the 64 teams and the race of the starters?

Looks like we got at least a few non-racist teams to cheer for: Notre Dame, BYU, Duke, West Virginia, Gonzaga. Any others we should cheer for?

Jimmy Chitwood has an excellent piece on CF on the racist SEC conference.

Instead of asking someone else to do it, why not begin to look up some of the teams yourself, Bunnyman? It's not likejust a fewof ushave a monopoly on the ability to look up players and teams online. Take some initiative! You'd be surprised what you can do if you try.

BYU starts 4 whites all the time. They have just one black on the team.

Creightonis starting2 whites, Junior Forward Dane Watts and Senior Guard Nate Funk. They have a light black who is their biggest bench player and who's favorite player is "Pistol" Pete Maravich. Junior Guard Pierce Hibma also get some minutes.

Wisconsin started just 1 white, Senior Forward/Center Jason Chappell in their last game. Whites getting good time off the bench were Junior Center Greg Stiemsma, Freshman Guard Jason Bohannon, and Sophomore Guard/Forward Joe Krabbenhoft.

North Texas starts an all black lineup and their main backups are black too.

Vermont, the America East Conference Champs, started 4 whites in their last game. Two out of their three main bench players are white as well.

Eastern Kentucky starts 2 whites, butone of their twomain bench players is white, Freshman Forward Josh Taylor, who made the shot to beat Austin Peay for the OVC title on March 3.

Unfortunatley Albany beat Vermont in the conference tournament, so Vermont I'm hearing probably won't make the tournament. Albany looked to have a lot of whites also just not as many.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Vermont is 25-7, so they should make it in, but who knows. I can't wait to see the brackets.

I saw the highlights of Miami earlier today, and it will be great if they can win a couple of games.

Vermont didn't make it. Neither did Air Force. I guess those were the only white-friendly teams that didn't make it. I posted on some teams/games to keep up with on the 2007 NCAA Tournament thread.

I was listening to ESPN radio in the car while the coach of Weber State was being interviewed after his team won today. He kept talking about the "blue collar" nature of his players. I just checked it out and Weber State has four white starters.

Yep Don, Weber State is about an hour north of here and they are very white. I'm really glad they made it in. I thought Air Force deserved to be in more than Arkansas.

I agree, but with the SEC so weak they tried to make it look better by adding another team for them it seems.. I like the draw for white teams, hopefully they can make some noise.

almost lily white #7 Marist upset #2 seed Oklahoma State on OUS's home court in the first round of the NIT, winning 67-64.
smiley32.gif
Marist starts 4 white athletes.

OSU hadwon 137 of their last 139 non-conference games at home. it was Marist's first-ever game against a Big-12 team. led by sharp-shooting Will Whittington's 31 points, the Red Foxes earned their first-ever NIT or NCAA Tournament win.

"I'd just like to say for our program and our conference, this is a great win," said Marist coach Matt Brady, whose team won the regular-season Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title.

"For our kids [who wanted to play in the NCAA Tournament]... it makes up for it to win on the road against a terrific team with the pedigree and history that [Oklahoma State] has and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to move on."

Jared "Share" Jordan had an off night, but still finished with a near triple-double: 9 points, 8 assists, and tied for a game-high 7 rebounds. Forward Ryan Stilphen had 7 rebounds and added 16 points. Will Whittington finished with 31, including a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. no black payer for the Red Foxes scored more than 4 points, and somehow they still won.

in other NIT action, NC State knocked off favored all-black Drexel behind the play of senior point guard Engin Atsur and sophomore forward Ben McCauley.

Atsurled theWolf Pack with18 points on 5-9 shooting (7-8 from the charity stripe). McCauley added 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Nice wins by these teams. Yes Syracuse got royally screwed---the guy who runs the committee was so far off mark with his head up his rear explanations--Arkansas and Illinois give me a break!!--it was political--there were Big Ten, Pac Ten and SEC officials on the committee but no Big East. What a joke. And air force also got screwed but the MWC always gets screwed.

A belated thanks for the info.

As noted, I'm not a big college b-ball fan and have had a hard time geting info on the starters.

I figured I'd ask the experts for some help.
Anytime you want some demographic info on boxing just start a thread in the boxing section and I'll return the favor.

Cheers!

Congrats to the three white friendly teams that won in the NIT last night. West Virgina, NC State and Marist. Let's hope all three of those teams plus Air Force make it to Madison Square Garden for the NIT final four.

I was wondering if Wash. State was mostly white. All the Caste System "experts" are predicting them to be upset by Oral Roberts.

Wonder why?

there are several of these "expert" upset picks that "everyone" is predicting.

three in fact, and each of them is a "white" team getting beaten by a coal black team. the predicted losers? Butler, Notre Dame, and Duke.

the NIT offered another impressive performance, this evening. Syracuse guard Eric Devendorf lit up South Alabama for 34 points (a career high) as the Orange advance, 79-73.

Nevada is my sleeper team and I have them making it all the way to the final four.
