White Defensive MVPs

Here are those white defenders who I think are unarguably their team's defensive MVP:

GB: Clay Matthews
CHI: Brian Urlacher
MIN: Jared Allen
SF: Justin Smith
STL: Chris Long
HOU: Brian Cushing
JAX: Paul Posluzney
SD: Eric Weddle

From my football browsing these players are admitted by all but the most drunk DWFs as their team's defensive MVP. So 25% of NFL defenses are anchored by a white player. Not bad for a league in which 1-2 white starters on the defensive side of the ball is the norm.

Are there anymore?

Pat Angerer of the Colts and Sean Lee of the Cowboys.

I'd pick Laurainitis over Long on St. Louis.

Colin McCarthy has a very good chance of the being the Titans' best defensive player next season.

An argument can be made for Kyle Williams of Buffalo when he's healthy.

Don, I thought of Sean Lee too but with DeMarcus Ware on the Cowboys as well I'd say he has the edge (for now). Plus you will find almost no one out there who believes Lee is better.

I think Long is clearly better than Laurainitas. His sack/hurry #'s (the latter of which are astounding) are top-end.

In brotha-speak, Kyle Williams gets no respect.

@Toby Hillis Good one. I think Cullen Jenkins (?) vies for that honor in the feeble minds of most DWFs, but I'd put him up there too.

Angerer for Indy makes sense, Babin also that makes a nice round ten. There were around 42-45 white starters in the league, so whites were overperformers by around a factor of three (based on their overall share of starters they should have been only about 3 white team defensive MVPs.)

a case could be made for Ryan Kerrigan for the Redskins, many Redskins fans (im guessing all very drunk wfs) voted him as the best on the defense OVER Orakpo, however a good deal were split and voted for Fletcher but that could be because of him being there longer and that he led the league in tackles (although close to half were assists). It has been said that not only is Ryan Kerrigan is disruptive, but is a key guy in helping others make plays.

I think its closer than Long and Laurinitis, James had a smaller number of tackles, but more solo tackles than Fletcher. It is a shame that Fletcher made the pro bowl but James didn't, they were seperated by about 20 tackles overall. 70 of Fletcher's tackles were assists, 37of James 142 were assists (so much for all the draft "gurus" who said he piles up tackles by jumping onto the pile after the play has been made when 82 percent of his career tackles are solo when Fletcher is at 69 percent for his)

I live in the area and you're right, he does not get near the praise that he deserves. I even heard a radio talk show host say Babin had the most unimpressive 18 sack year in the history of the NFL, whatever that means. However, if you did a vote in the Philly area, I'd be willing to bet that at least a plurality of DWFs would pick Babin as defensive MVP.

Good list. I was real proud of Eric Weddle having a banner year at DB. These guys are all Pro Bowl caliber IMHO.
