This year should be even better for our D-lineman! Most of the veterans are back, and the younger players are likely to see more action.

Rivals actually does a decent job of scouting out some of the Big Ten's best defensive players for this upcoming year! There are a couple of LB's and S but I thought I'd stick this article in this thread. It's funny how "2" and "3" star white players can emerge to be the best in their conference, while "5" star black players are notorious for underperfoming!

I hope Utah does start Dave Kruger (he's projected to start on CFs preview). He should be an excellent DL in the Mountain West Conference!

Crick is considered the top defensive tackle by most. If he has a monster season this year I wonder if he'll get the hype of Suh. It would be nice for him to be a top 10 pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

Twentytwo it definitely is fair to say man! The thing I havenoticed about white D-linemen is yeah they all have motors that never stop, but couple that with natural talent and they have proved to be some of the best at the highest level. A lot of top flight black prospects could learn a thing or two from some of these "unathletic stiffs".After all playing football isn't all about measurables and more than any other position black DE's in recent drafts have been getting exposed. Ex. Vernon Golston.

Steinkuhler lets his play do the talking.

<DIV id=byLineTag =byLine>By Jeff Miller for USA TODAY
<DIV =byLine>
<DIV =inside-copy>Asked to expound on how Nebraska proposes to replace all-everything Ndamukong Suh in 2010, Cornhuskerssophomore defensive tackle Baker Steinkuhler politely declined multiple requests to do a phone interview.
"Family trait," says Mark King, Steinkuhler's high school coach at Lincoln (Neb.) Southwest.
Huskers fans are indeed aware the Steinkuhlers are strong, silent types.
Baker â€" who is 6-6 and 290 pounds â€" is the son of Dean Steinkuhler, the 1983 Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award winner at Nebraska as a guard. Dad anchored one of the best offensive lines ever as Nebraska averaged 52 points and 401.7 rushing yards a game; he then played nine seasons for the Houston Oilers.
Baker's older brother, Ty, preceded him in their father's Big Red football footsteps and started on the defensive line as a senior in 2008.

None craved attention from the news media or from the general public. Dean was almost conspicuous by his absence while the boys were in high school. In rare interviews, he indicates he doesn't want to siphon attention from his boys. The attitude apparently has rubbed off.
"He's not the most talkative guy in the world," Nebraska coach Bo Pelini says of Baker.
Adds Jared Crick, the junior defensive tackle who will become the most experienced player on the Huskers' 2010 defensive line: "Baker wants to be his own person."
He should have ample opportunity. In 2009, Nebraska continued to move back in the direction of where Big Red fans expect their program to be. The Huskers (10-4) led the nation in scoring defense and came within one second of upsetting Texas in the Big 12 Conference championship game and playing in a BCS bowl.
Nebraska's defense will return seven regular starters with nine players who made at least five starts.
Steinkuhler enters the fall with the edge on lining up inside next to Crick, figuratively filling Suh's position. Consider the symmetry: Baker, whose dad went second in the 1984 NFL draft, would step in for the player chosen second in the 2010 draft.
Dean came to Lincoln from the tiny Nebraska town of Burr, where he played eight-man football. He played both ways in high school before moving strictly to the offensive line with the Huskers.
Baker played both ways for Southwest before finding a home on defense for Nebraska.
Southwest's King recalled Baker playing both ways as a junior in 2006 in the longest high school game played in the state, a five-overtime loss to Omaha (Neb.) Millard North.
"He was a machine," King says. "He ran a 4.78 (in the 40-yard dash) when he was 282 pounds."
Baker made one official campus recruiting visit, though King had other ideas.
"I suggested he make other visits: 'Bake, take some trips,' " King recalls. No, thanks.
When Baker signed with the Big Red, his father didn't attend the ceremony for fear of drawing attention. Such has been his pattern as a high school and college football father.
"He keeps his distance," Crick says.
Nebraska loses Suh at defensive tackle plus two-year starter Barry Turner at defensive end. Pelini is irritated by any suggestion that the defense â€" coached by Carl Pelini, Bo's brother â€" faces a rebuilding job.
"People are talking like our defense is going to fall apart. That's absurd," he says. "We expect the same production."
In fact, Pelini sees the most defensive depth since he became Nebraska's head coach in December 2007.
"Guys are looking forward to the challenges," he says.
Says Crick: "It's obvious we all have to step up our game. We're not looking at it like we lost a huge talent. It's a system of everybody doing their job. If one doesn't do his job, the line fails. I expect to get more double teams. I've got to prepare for certain things."
Crick, at 6-6 and 285, joined Suh on the Big 12's first-team defense last season.
"He has all the tools," Pelini says. "He's quick, a very powerful guy."
Crick says of young Steinkuhler: "He's learning. I see little glimpses here and there. You've got to be consistent. With his height, like mine, you get extra leverage."
Other players in the mix at defensive tackle are junior Terrence Moore, sophomore Justin Jackson and redshirt freshman Thaddeus Randle.
King thinks Steinkuhler won't shy away from the prospect of replacing Suh. "He's ready," he says. "He has a great work ethic. He doesn't stop working. He gets better all the time."

Thanks for posting Jimmy C! Never got around to posting a pic of him; no doubt he is another big time talent! As mentioned he and Crick at 6'-6" make the Tallest Starting DT's in all the land; probably the NFL too??

Speaking of...noticing how the D-Line has been getting away from white players to all time disturbing lowly levels the past NFL Draft; the trend is looking much brighter in the next few years...it's a good thing! As some of the currentolderD-Lineman(who will/have been retiring) have to pass the torch on to the next wave of younger studs!

Yeah, studs like Steinkuhler, Crick, Ryan Kerrigan, Colby Whitlock, Derek Wolfe, Bruce Miller, etc. should all be invited to the combine when they come out.

Just two or three years ago all four of the starting defensive ends in the Pro Bowl were White, but that didn't change the demographic trend at all, nor did it end the ridiculous "racial apprenticeship" virtually all White d-linemen are still forced to endure.

The younger wave of studs is already in the league but it remains to be seen what kind of opportunity they will get -- Kroy Biermann, Connor Barwin, Brian Robison, Paul Kruger and Jeff Charleston all have lots of ability. Biermann at least looks to be starting this year and Barwin has a shotas he ison one of the relatively white friendliest teams. Robison will be entering year four of his racial apprenticeship, while Kruger played mostly special teams and was jerked around between DE and OLB in his rookie season but has a chance to get decent playing time this year at end.

It's good to seegreat Whitetalents on the line continue toforce their wayto the forefront in college, much as we've seen in recent years with WRs and LBs. White determination combined with continued black dysfunction and underachievement may eventually burst the Caste dam that has existed for over 30 years now. Edited by: Don Wassall

So true Don! I remember that! Was it VandenBosch, Aaron Smith,Jared Allen & Kerney(retired now)?? Was glad Justin Smith got to play in te Pro-Bowl last season.

Some of the biggest bust on the D-Line that come to mind...Jonathan Sullivan & Courtney Brown

Those names you mentioned are good ones! Beirmann looks to start ahead of another 1st round bust Jamal Anderson! Barwinshould be a Future Star...What a draft in 09' with him & Cushing! We saw what Kruger can do! Robison could easily replace Ray Edwards for the Vikes! Glad the Saints made the call to Charleston in Oct 08'...looked good for the Colts the year before;who then released him...was working for a furniture store in Oregon when he got the call...

Ravens NT-Kelly Gregg(6-0 315)is one tough dude that has been underrated in his 8 years...Igor Olshansky has been solid! Those guys along with Aaron Smith, Justin Smith & VandenBosch won't be around forever...I think the young studs step it up along with the next wave in college.Edited by: TwentyTwo

Colorado State nose guard, Guy Miller, is another powerful D-lineman! He has excellent strength. He's a Senior this year.

My suspicion is that Derek Wolfe will measure in at 6-4 max, if/when he goes to the NFL combine, but he is a promising lineman and young, too.

He's definitely getting more and more "buzz" on the internet. Stay healthy!
