Edwards was a stud high school running back, was a very effective runner from the fullback position for Notre Dame, then was used mainly as an backfield offensive lineman by the NFL. His final stop was with the Bears, who waived him during the 2005 season. From Caste Football's Fullbacks and Tailbacks Archive:

MARC EDWARDS

(8/23/02) Edwards (6'0" 245 lbs.) was a strong and effective runner at Notre Dame, averaging 5.1 yards per carry and scoring 27 rushing touchdowns. The 49ers selected him in the 2nd round of the '97 draft, but used him primarily as a blocker, a waste of a high draft pick.

After the '98 season Edwards was traded to the re-born Browns, and had a total of 8 rushing attempts over two seasons. He ended up with the Patriots in '01, and easily had career highs for rushing attempts (51) and yards gained (141). He has 96 career receptions for 772 yards and 8 TDs.

He didn't look nearly as good running the ball last year as he did at Notre Dame, where he ran like a bull, probably due to years of rust and not being developed by running backs coaches in the NFL. Will probably still get the occasional touch with the Patriots, but nothing more.

Edwards was an underrated cog in the Patriots team that one their first SB. In college he was a short yardage specialist with a nose for the endzone. Joey Goodspeed was the same thing for the Irish.

I remember Edwards and I sadly recall very well that TD run he made against Texas that is a part of that YouTube highlight. Looked like a stud to me.
