I don't think the caste system has made idiots out of all the white fans. I have noticed how well recieved and popular Wally and Peja have been with their new teams. I think alot of fans hunger for white stars..not just role players...I also noticed in Wally's case that when he went back to play a game in Minnesota he was cheered wildly even when he made a shot. I am pretty sure Peja will get the same reaction when he plays in Sacremento. I doubt Ron Artest will the next time he comes to Indiana.
I doubt most of those fans care as much about race as maybe most of the members of this site do. However, I do think they want more athletes they can identify with and it's just hard to identify with the Artest's, Iverson's and Kobe's of the world. They are great players, just not great white players.

You might have a point. For example the Raptor's Matt Bonner is a fan favorite despite being only a minor role player He basically comes off the bench and shoots a few threes every game, (then he goes back to the bench before the Craptors stink can get all over him)

The same goes for Cleveland's Luke Jackson. He is the only player that gets chants for his name and even though he isn't a starter his jerseys still sell. Now if that's not telling you white fans want a star I don't know what will.

The same goes for another Luke...in Luke Walton. Even though he's performed marginally this year, he still gets the "luuuuke" chants.

White players are often on extreme ends of the spectrum either fan favorites or really hated. I think many fans still want white athletes but most fans still underate white athletes.Edited by: white lightning

It's the same reason why Duke is so loved and hated by white people. It's loved by those bothered by the caste system and those longing for more white star athlete representation in sports, it's also hated by some white's because they could care less about the plight of the white athlete and believe we are inferior in every case anyway.
