The NHL has some weird macho codes(for people that don't play the game at a pro level). I recall Jeremy Roenick saying as a rookie in training camp he was run at by tough guys because he wore a full cage and was told by high sticks to the cage that he shouldn't wear the cage. He stated the next day he never wore the cage again. NHL players seem to only wear the full cage when they have a broken jaw or have recent dental work of course if they wore the cage they would never have to need the cage. This goal by hall of famer Lanny McDonald shows the toughness of the average NHL player while wearing the cage due to an injury.......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rptpVloPyYk

I think it should be the players choice as to whether or not they want to wear one. To be totally honest, I've never really liked visors. A lot of people in the rec league that I play in think I'm crazy for going visorless but I just can't see worth a damn out of them because of all the fogging. The condensation in most South Florida ice rinks is atrocious and its one of the reasons the Panthers are said to have the worst ice in the league.

I do believe helmets are a good thing, but after that, these are grown men they know what equipment is right for them...Brodeur says his leg pads are not as padded as they could be because he likes to feel the shots to let him know they were hit........
