I predicted this while he was still in college. Yes, it feels pretty good!

I don't follow college or else I'd have predicted it, too!

Sad to say, but Young's problems were predictable

... McNabb understands that in some instances the scrutiny of a black quarterback might be a tad more intense than that of a white one..

MORE scrutiny? From whom? Kid-gloves-treatment-for-black-QBs is more accurate.

Whitlock is completely wrong, of course, about the treatment of McNabb--who has been and will always be a favorite of the football media.

I posted the article just to give him some credit for having seen that there was no way Vince Young was going to make it in the NFL.

This must be the toot my own horn thread. So I will do the same. I am one of the few people in the country that predicted McCain would choose Sarah Palin for a running mate. I predicted it several days before the fact and considered her a serious contender for months. So "I don't mean to toot my own horn, but damn I'm smart".

I don't understand how picking Palin can help him. He's already stated publicly that whites (and blacks too, I guess) must be replaced because we are too clumsy at lettuce-picking. He's such a jerk that he even says I wouldn't do it for $50/hour (as though his big business friends would ever countenance that deal...but it must be OUR weakness that means they can't, right?). Am I supposed to believe that a rural, white, female running mate means that he changed his mind? I won't.

We got about thirty threads in Happy Hour talking about the election. I mean, I know I derail threads all the time, too... but please, can we not start another McCain sucks / McCain's the greatest in the NFL forum, too? Please?

Hey DW fan. My post was meant to be tongue in cheek as sort of a responce to what White Power said about himself earlier. Shogun is right, any serious discussion of the McCain/Palin ticket belongs in Happy Hour. I know you are new here and so welcome to Caste Football

No apologies necessary or warranted. Alot of posters here at CF agree with what you posted earler in this thread. So you can revisit the topic anytime you want in Happy Hour, there are about three current threads dealing with the election right now.

The author of this article writes disapprovingly of Hoge's gleeful take on the fall of Vince Young. It quotes fron a Hoge interview, who has some inside info about Young's behavior.

Merril Hoge kicks Young while he's down

Hoge is being color blind, unlike all the other Caste media folk, because a white quarterback who acted like Young has would be finished in the NFL. There would be no excuses made for him even if he came from a fatherless, desperately poor background. Every journalist and comedian in the land would make him the butt of jokes. They would be merciless.

Article:

"What's odd is that there's such glee in Merril's voice when he lets loose, now when Vince Young has completely fallen from grace."

Like I said before, I have no clue how Hoge wasnt fired for making these comments (ala Rush Limbaugh). I have no clue why Hoge, a typical nut-hugging ex NFL player, isnt simply "falling in line" at the pity-party for this complete sissy-boy. He would any other time.

Maybe Young being passed off as an NFL starter is just too much for his little caste-head to bear. This jerk is as emasculated, non-sensical, and moronically irrational as any "analyst" this turd league has ever produced. Maybe he just can't hold back the obvious truths about the NFL any longer.

Perhaps his job was spared because he didnt mention Young's race. That is, the chosen race....the media's little darlings.

BTW - Hoge recently said that: "Jeff Fischer never wanted to draft Young, and begged managment not to do so."

I was also surprised at how relentless Hoge has been of late. He was a major opponent of Young coming out of Texas, thatr much I remember. Aside from this, he's been a typical Caste analyst. He's at least consistent. It's funny to see the other talking heads on ESPN get all uncomfortable and fidgety whenever he starts ragging on Young. Someone like Trey Wingo usually steps in to stop the rant.

He's the funniest quirk on ESPN since the Mark Schlereth v. John Clayton duels. Those were funny.

Here's how a prominent fantasy site describes Sunday's Titans-Vikings matchup: This game could set the NFL back 40 years or so - which is great if you like solid defensive football and bland, aging quarterbacks, but not so great for fantasy.

I guess he thinks Vince Young and Tarvaris Jackson were going to light up the scoreboard with their electric passing skills.

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing the NFL set back 40 years -- that was when the league had a pretty fair racial mix, players always played hard and with sound fundamentals, and when they made a good play they knew how to conduct themselves with class instead of like a mentally retarded child. The Packers of 40 years ago would have handled either of these two teams with ease.

Forty years ago was 1968 and the first year I followed the game. I loved it! And the only reason I even give a rat's ass about the game today is because of what it was back then and what I hope it can return to. There were some great players back then and some great offenses too. Today's game sucks by comparison.

If Kerry Collins keeps the Titans on track and they continue to have a winning record this year then I wonder when Vince comes back if the sports media makes the same argument for Collins that they make for Vince " he wins games". I bet they don't make that argument, they will just say that Collins "manages the game well" and that Vince should start. I think the fans of the Titans have largely giving up on Vince and unless Collins stinks up the joint they will not be clamoring for him.

I first followed the NFL in 1958, age 8. The biggest advance in the quality of play since then has been the quarterback and the place kicker. When I see films from the 1960's, most of the quarterbacks don't pass as well as the top QB's of today. The soccer-style kickers can kick farther and with more accuracy.

It must be pointed out that the 1978 rules changes made for more passing yardage, but the passing game is more sophisticated than 40-50 years ago. For what it's worth, my opinion is that the quarterbacks have advanced more than the running backs.

One thing you did not see in the distant past was all the hugging when a player scored a TD. A player would make a very good run for a TD, hand the ball to the referee, and trot to the sideline. Of course, there was no dancing in the end zone.

I distinctly remember the first football team I saw were the players hugged each other after a touchdown. It was a college team, the 1966 Notre Dame team that won the National Championship that year. I noticed this at the time and was mildly put off by it. Pretty soon, most every team was doing it. The rising number of black players brought on the end zone dances, and then celebrations after plays from scrimmage.

There really wasn't such a thing as a short passing game 40 years ago, which has pretty much forced quarterbacks to be more precise when throwing the ball.Today's ubiquitous short throws havealso greatly inflated passing and receiving statisticsbecause of the change in emphasis.

I agree with Sport Historian about the running backs not being better. They ran noticeably harder before and many were more elusive than today's RBs. It may be hard for young fans to believe, but before Franco Harris came along it was almost unheard of for a running back to go out of bounds without taking a hit. Gaining every possible yard was the goal; now it's avoiding contact whenever possible for many.

When Joe Namath was the most famous player in pro football during the late 1960's (and during the AFL-NFL rivalry), he would speak of what he called an "NFL-style quarterback." By this Namath meant a QB who threw a lot of short passes to his RB's that made his completion percentage look good. Namath threw mostly downfield. Terry Bradshaw played a similar style in the late 70's.

Don, I should have mentioned that quarterbacks did not throw as many short passes in the late 50's and early 60's, as they do now. An exception was Milt Plum, with the Browns from 1958-61, as Paul Brown's offense called for a lot of passes to Jim Brown and Bobby Mitchell.

The NFL changed the rules to open up the passing game, yet most quarterbacks these days routinely throw for less than 200 yards a game. What's the deal?

You guys must have missed Jim Rome (of all people) totally TORCHING Vince Young when "this affair" unfolded a few weeks ago! This happened on his ESPN show and I tried to see if someone had posted this on youtube, but no luck....

It was classic for sure!

This Vince Young "situation" is a very educational case study. Basically, the Caste media were on their knees for Vince Young for all these years -- to NO avail! Because Vince Young was such a terrible QB, what does that say about all those "folks" who already declared him a "superstar?" That is the dynamic. Vince Young made the Caste media look completely stupid and inept.

So, some prominent members of the Caste media will "turn on" one of their darlings when they can no longer serve the AGENDA, and they actually become a liability to that agenda. Vince Young's style of play at QB can be described with one word -- PRIMITIVE! Unless he undergoes a brain transplant, he'll never be a good NFL QB.

I guess the most dangerous precedent here is with the NCAA. If NCAA football continues to move towards having a majority of black players at quarterback, then in the future, Vince Youngs will be the only thing available for NFL teams to draft.

I can definitely see the NFL being forced by 2020 or so into having a majority of black players at quarterback, simply due to the NCAA providing them nothing but more Vince Youngs.Edited by: nevada

Maybe there'll be a tipping point for the Caste System and the media that supports it just as there seems to be building in the countryas illustrated bythe growing opposition to the bailout for the robber barons who have pillaged the land. Things are changing very rapidly on all fronts, and not in ways beneficial to the criminals in the power structure.

BTW Deadlift, I was watching "Animal House" for a bit last night and your (appropriate) use of the word "primitive" to describe the joke quarterback Vince Young reminds me of one of the very few genuinely (anti-black) racist jokes emanating from Hollywood in the past 50 years. The Delta guys had disingenuously picked up some "dates" from the nearby girls' college and they ended up in an all-black nightclub where they were being menaced as Otis Day and the Knights played. One of the guys asks one of the girls what her major is and she responds, "Primitive Cultures." Thefilm then immediately cuts to Otis and his band playing. Pretty blatant and pretty funny. The short passing game was invented by Bill Walsh who ironically had Montana check off to the fullback in the flat a lot. Comparing the stats of Rice to even Largent is like comparing swimming conditions of Spitz to Phelps. When Don Maynard caught for 10K in yards that was probably equivalent to 15k+ in todays era because of the less accurate vertical throws.
