Vanes was very impressive against Willie Lee, stopping him in the 3rd!

Now he's scheduled to fight African Kassim Ouma on Jan 16. It's good to see he's staying active.

The fight with Ouma will be televised on Fox Sports(FSN). I'm glad FSN is getting back into boxing. I liked their old "Sunday Night Fights" series they had a few years ago. I hope they fill the void since Versus is likely done with boxing.

There hasn't been much boxing, this is the only interesting fight of this weekend. But from Jan 30 to late April many of our top fighters will be in action.

Vanes Martirosyan survived a flash knockdown tonight, and won by UD over Kassim Ouma.

The judges scores were 97-93, 97-93, and 97-92.

White boxers are continuing to do very well in 2010!

I watched the fight against "afflete" Ouma last night. Vanes looked sharp most the fight with good tenacity and a solid chin. Another tough, hard@$$ Armenian in combat sports (ala MMA trainer Gokor Chivichyan & fighters like (Dutch-Armenian) Gegard Mousasi, Karo Parisayan & his cousin Manvel "The Anvil" Gamburyan).

This is one I'm looking forward to - Vanes first appearance on HBO. If he defeats Joe Greene on national TV, it will be a good "caste" win (like Pavlik defeating Miranda was).

I had Vanes winning every round, looks like they gave the closer ones to Greene.

Nice performance!

Goes to show how great a trainer Freddie Roach is. If Pavlik or Litzau had some brains, they'd sought his service. Steward would be an excellent choice too. But, I guess they probably couldn't afford either trainer.

Ring writer Michael Rosenthal bashes Vanes Martirosyan after his big win over the undefeated Greene:

"MOST LIMITED?

Vanes Martirosyan: The former U.S. Olympian seems to have all the tools necessary to succeed â€" the amateur pedigree, the athleticism -- and one of the best trainers in the world, Freddie Roach. Still, something is missing. The Southern Californian outboxed a good boxer in Joe Greene to win a unanimous decision on the Foreman-Cotto undercard and remain undefeated, a solid step forward in his quest to win a major title. However, once again, there was nothing special about him or his performance. He'll probably win a belt in the thin division at some point but, unless he takes his game up a notch or two, I would be surprised if he became a truly elite fighter."

Yet on the same page, he has nothing but praise for Yuri Foreman.

By the way, we can e-mail the Ring writers, and they do read them and reply. I have done so in the past. And it may be a coincidence, but after I sent Rosenthal an e-mail a year or so ago taking him to task for bashing the Klitschkos, he hasn't bashed them since (Raskin still does though).

I read an article a few days ago that said Vanes didn't impress or something like that. I have a feeling this kid will be champ in a year or so. Give him a title shot. He's on fire.

March 21, 2011 | 00:21

On March 19, undefeated Vanes Martirosyan (29-0, 18 KOs) scored a right hand knockout in the 2nd round over Bladimir Hernandez (18-5, 16 KOs) in Montreal, Canada.

The bout was scheduled to eight rounds. However, Martirosyan dominated his opponent from the first round and dropped Hernandez down in the second round.

Martirosyan will next fight with Saul Roman on April 23.

This was Vanes' first fight in 9 months.  Good to see him back. Top Rank should be getting him some big fights over the next year or so.
