Don't worry, the controversy has already started. Read some of the comments, word is that Ruiz, of all people, was robbed by the decision.
People are also complaining that he didn't knock out Ruiz, given his size advantage over Huggy Bear. Funny thing is, the only person to ever KO Ruiz that I know of was David Tua, and that was a long time ago.
Ruiz is a hard guy to knockout, given his style of grab 'n box. Valuev has 31 KOs in 43 fights, or roughly 72% of his fights end by knockout. This percentage is better than that of Ruiz, Holyfield, Byrd, and is only slightly worse than Lewis. Of course he trails behind both Klitschkos, who have an extremely high percentage of wins by knockout. But then again none of the aforementioned men weigh over 300 lbs, either.
I'd like to watch the fight for myself, if they ever replay it here in the U.S. Anyone know if this is going to happen?

I'm just glad he won.Did you guys hear that Ruiz's corner man wouldn't let go of the belt and kept cussing and calling Valuev a bum.One of Valuev's corner men knocked the crap out of him and took the belt that they deserve.I love it!I knew it would be a ugly fight but he got it done.He was even dancing a little in the 9th round.Valuev will next fight in the US on tv.The opponent has yet to be decided although it is rumored that there might be a rematch.I hope not!Congrats to the main man,"The Beast From the East".
He is now the tallest & heaviest heavyweight champ of all time!A perfect record of 44-0 doesn't hurt either!

Valuev is a work in progress and improves with every fight. He will be hard to beat in the current heavyweight division based on his size alone. Let's hope he starts getting some attention in the U.S. press. Even if there is a boring rematch with Ruiz it will help if it is televised.

Yeah, Valuev is probably too big to chase down people who want to make a track meet out of a boxing match, hence his lower-than-expected KO percentage.
Chronic clinchers are also a problem. If it was MMA, Valuev would just elbow and knee them or ground and pound.
Though if I was boxing a guy Valuev's size, I might do alot of running and clinching too

I know one thing...no one ever criticized the black American HWs who were bigger than most of their White competition in the 60s and 70s, nor do they have so much ill to say of the modern black super-heavys like Lennox Lewis, so no reason to cry foul now that the big Russians are in the game.

With only 15 amateur fights and a slow start to his pro career Valuev certainly is a work in progress.He actually had his first pro fight back in 1993 and then only fought a handful of times over the next few years.Not until 1997 did he fight regularly,so I'm sure he had plenty of learning to do,but I'm looking forward to the future.If there is a rematch with Ruiz,this time Valuev gets the KO and it will probably be contested in the U.S.for all to see.
