What I find interesting about the U.S. is how most of its hockey talent still comes from the areas mentioned in the poll 40 years after the NHL doubled in size with 6 new American teams, plus all the other expansion teams. It takes a long, long time for an area to develop professional hockey talent. The interest has to be there first, but finding good coaching and facilities is not an overnight process. Not being able to skate onfrozen ponds in many areas of the U.S. during winter is undoubtedly a factor too, similar to the way Canada's climate works against producingmore than the occasional progolfer.
