we don't often mention the Ivy League, but there's a young talent at running back that should be mentioned. sophomore Tyler Varga, a first-year sophomore transfer from the University of Western Ontario (that's in Canada!), is currently second in rushing in the Ivy League for his Yale Bulldogs.

Varga is averaging 103 yards-per-game on a 5.0 yards-per-carry clip. in his debut game for Yale, he ran for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns on 21 carries, becoming the first Yale player to ever run for 100 yards in his first game. he also returned 3 kickoffs for 65 yards (he is the second-leading kick returner in the League).

Tyler transferred to Yale after dominating in his first and only year in the CIS, being named CIS National Freshman of the Year and numerous other honors after running for over 1,100 yards and scoring 18 touchdowns.

he's a guy to keep an eye on. if his physical prowess (4.49 in the 40, 37-inch vertical, 22 reps at 225-pound bench) ever translates into more big plays in the US, he may get a look at the next level.

Thanks for the highlights Jimmy. He's very shifty and he's a bigger back at 220 lbs. I'll bet the media will label his as a powerback.

With times and measurables like that he looks like a lock to play in the CFL. He will need to put up huge numbers and have a huge camp like Eachus to make an NFL roster. But he has a few years to physically mature.

I just remembered this but I beleive Varga was listed on Rivals 2 years ago having an offer from Baylor. I totally forgot about this guy. If Baylor goes after a talented white Canadian rb how many talented Texas kids have they screwed over.

Varga continues to be the lone spark for the Yale offense, as injuries continue to decimate the quarterback position (they've played 5 different players at the position in the past 3 games). his efforts weren't enough to keep Yale in the win column, however, against Harvard in The Big Game.

Varga finished the contest with 22 carries for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns, 4 catches for 19 yards, and 2 kickoff returns for 43 yards.

despite playing in a one-dimensional offense, Varga entered the game leading the FCS in all-purpose yards, and that is where he remains.
