I have wanted to see this change for years. I never understood the opposition to it. I think the reason it was opposed is because it is hockey tradition to look down on "cherry-pickers" those guys that hang out at the opponents blue line waiting for a pass. Players that hang out at in the neutral zone are abandonding their duty to defend at the points in the defensive end. I still remember how mad my coaches would get if a kid bolted the defensive zone or even worse loitered at center ice waiting for a pass.

But in the pros I think it is a good thing because hockey has been stifled by the left wing lock which forces teams to play dump and rush. Now there should be a lot of odd man rushes which to me is more fun then mucking about at the boards trying to control the zone.

I also think that the typical style of hockey goal scoring, which is to gain control in the offensive zone, feed the point and get off a shot that you hope ping-pongs in or hits a skate and goes in or pops out to an open man is too subject to the luck factor.

I would much rather see goals scored by two forwards rushing one defense man and passing it around before blasting one in the upper corner. That to me is a goal that is the result of talent not the result of a lucky bounce.

I am not concerned with the amount of goals scored but the quality of opportunities to score. The last couple of playoffs featured so many one or two goal games which was bad because the goals were more luck then skill which is a poor way to win a game.

The two line pass should open up the game, offer more scoring chances for the guys that should have them, the fast, quick, goal scoring snipers.

Howdy Jaxvid. Great Post !!

The two-line pass rule probably has its roots in junior hockey, it's purpose would be to instill discipline in child players. Makes the seven-year-old "go one line at a time" to encourage short, crisppassing.

For the NHL where speed and scoring and cash come first, this rule is the biggest no-brainer of them all. Bring on those home-run passes!
