haha, i just saw that as well! WTF! he smoked them all.

here's a good, complimentary article about Toby.

It could be aspirins all around for UCLA this week.

Defensive coordinator Chuck Bullough might need some help figuring out a scheme to stop Stanford's bull-like running back Toby Gerhart. And defensive tackle Brian Price already knows a few tablets can come in handy at game time.

"I remember hitting him last year and it gave me a headache," Price said. "He is the toughest runner I've ever come across."

Price isn't alone in those thoughts. Gerhart enters this week's game against the Bruins as the third-leading rusher in the nation, averaging 129 yards a game. The 6-foot-1, 237-pound senior from Norco rambled over, around and through Washington for 200 yards in the Cardinal's 34-14 victory Saturday.

The Bruins don't need to be reminded about Gerhart's ability. He gained 138 yards and scored two touchdowns against them last season.

"You've got to tackle," Coach Rick Neuheisel said. "He's not going down with any one person, so you've got to be physical and you've got to wrap up."

That is a concern going into the game, as Neuheisel said that the Bruins' 23-9 victory over Kansas State on Sept. 19 was, "maybe for the first time all year we didn't tackle very well."

Still, this plays into UCLA's strength. The Bruins are tied for ninth nationally against the run, giving up only 74 yards a game.

"One thing we know, we've got to bring the wood this week," Price said.

To prepare, Jayson Allmond, who is 6 feet and 266 pounds, is playing the role of Gerhart on the scout team this week.

"You've got to bring people at him," Bullough said. "You don't want to let him move forward. The more guys you bring at him, the better chance you have of driving him back.

"One on one, you're not going to bring him down."

Despite a 200 yard, 7.4 ypc performance the media stooge must use the obligatory "rumbles" as his choice of words to describe Gerhart's long run for a touchdown (nevermind that he showed great balance, power and speed on the play).

He definitely looked faster than the DB chasing after him. I wonder if he thought the DB was "rumbling." Just more of the same from the media.Edited by: Fightingtowin

Gerhart reminds me of Rob Konrad. Konrad had more bulk but should have been a feature back in the NFL. He was described as being a "hybrid" type fullback/runningback. In reality that stupid term is just another label for big white backs.

If Gerhart keeps it up he might get some mentions in the Heisman race. That would be a huge castebreaker!

backrow, yes a very complimentary article on Gerhart. But again the author chooses to use the word "rambled" in his article. Per Merriam-Webster.com, "rambled" is defined as, "to move aimlessly from place to place," or, "to roam or wander." I would hardly call his running style as wandering. What is wrong with these media guys? They just can't bring themselves to use words like, "explosive," or "athletic," etc. I don't get it. Even this article does not make mention at all about his speed or elusiveness, just that he's a load that is hard to bring down. I don't think you run for 200 yards as purely a north-south downhill runner. Although he sure looks like a downright beast in the picture attached with the article. All in all, I just think there's a long way to go to get the media to state it how it really is.

"¢ Stanford senior RB Toby Gerhart lit up Washington's defense for 27-200-1 last week, but he has largely disappointed scouts, who see him as too much of a tweener â€" not quick or fast enough for the tailback position nor strong and physical enough for a fullback.

The coaching staff has compared him to former Stanford great Tommy Vardell and can't sing his praises enough, but scouts do not know where to play him.

So Toby has disappointed scouts by running for too many yards and having too much success? This is one of the clearest examples that prove the caste system. They want to see a white RB fail and be relegated to a FB, the natural position for RBs with the dreaded skin condition. Total caste insanity!

UCLA Football: the focus is on Toby Gerhart

Toby. Toby. Toby.
That's the buzz swarming around UCLA's game at Stanford this week. The unexpected rise, at least for the moment, has these teams being portrayed as Pacific 10 Conference front-runners. That made Cardinal running back Toby Gerhart the easiest place to focus.
There are some good reasons. Gerhart is the nation's third leading rusher, averaging 129 yards per game. UCLA comes in tied for ninth against the run, giving up 74.3 yards per game.
That allowed for quickly researched questions for the conference's media call Tuesday.
Should Gerhart be a Heisman Trophy contender?
"Well yes, I believe so,"Â￾ Stanford Coach Jim Harbaugh said. "He means so much to our team. He's the shining star on our team. He does kind of what [a most valuable player] does. He was our MVP last year and he's running even better this year."Â￾
<A id=more name=more></a>

So stopping Gerhart becomes priority No. 1 for UCLA.
"You better put on big boy pads,"Â￾ UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel said. "They make no bones about it, they're coming at you. They are saying they're going to win in the trenches. You got to be able to manage the point of attack. It's a great challenge for our front seven, and for our guys in the back. You start nosing up, trying to get eight, nine guys in the box, and you risk giving up a big play."Â￾
Gerhart, who had 1,136 yards rushing in 2008 and 516 this season, does rate the attention.

<DIV =entry-more>Toby Gerhart: Rushing machine.
<DIV =entry-more>
<DIV =entry-more>
In the words of senior offensive tackle Chris Marinelli, "He's a helluva back."Â￾

He's talking, of course, about senior running back Toby Gerhart.

In last Saturday's win over No. 24 Washington, Gerhart rushed for a career-high 200 yards, the most by any Cardinal in 21 years and the seventh-best rushing performance in school history. In just four games this season, he has amassed 516 rushing yards and five touchdowns, an average of 129.0 yards per game. The average places him first in the Pac-10 Conference and third nationally in rushing yards per game.

Gerhart's career statistics have placed him in the top five on just about every Stanford rushing record list. He holds the single-season records for rushing yards and 100-yard games, with 1,136 and eight, respectively. His career rushing total of 2,167 yards places him sixth, only eight yards behind the fifth-place Glyn Milburn. With 21 career rushing touchdowns, he's tied with Mike Mitchell; just two more will move him to fourth and three more will move him to third. He comes in second on the records list for career 100-yard games, with 12.

Record setting isn't exactly new for the seasoned back, who set a number of records at Norco High School in Norco, Calif. As a senior, he set the Norco High School record for rushing yards in a single game and single season. He amassed 9,662 yards over his high school career, setting a new California record for career rushing yards, and placing him third on the national list.

"That guy's crazy,"Â￾ Marinelli said. "He's so talented, so physical, so fast. He just gets through the line. We don't like to be spectators, but he just gets going and we can't keep up with him."Â￾

Head coach Jim Harbaugh is not shy about praising his star, either. "There's no doubt that Toby is a shining star on the team. As a player, he is good, if not the best in the country,"Â￾ he said at Tuesday's media day.

Even UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel agrees. "[Gerhart] is maybe as good as there is in the country,"Â￾ he told The Long Beach Press-Telegram. "He's a different kind of running back. He's not going to try to make you miss as many times as some as some of the elusive guys do. He's as powerful and tough to bring down as any back I've seen in college football for some time."Â￾

"You've got to bring people at him,"Â￾ said UCLA defensive coordinator Chuck Bullough. "You don't want to let him move forward. The more guys you bring at him, the better chance you have of driving him back. One on one, you're not going to bring him down."Â￾

How does he do it? How is he able to predict defensive movement, find holes, avoid tackles, even break tackles? For Gerhart, it seems like a natural gift, something that has been honed and perfected by years of practice and is impossible to learn.

"I don't know exactly. I just kind of react,"Â￾ he said. "I told Coach [Harbaugh] once that I just close my eyes and run, and he gave me a death stare â€" I don't think he got my sarcasm. But I don't really know [at the moment]. Later, when we watch the film, I see myself, and I'm like, ‘Well, I guess I saw that guy.'"Â￾

And how does it feel to be recognized and ranked not only on Stanford's lists, but nationally? "It feels good,"Â￾ Gerhart said. Quick to share the credit, he added, "It's a testament to everybody. It really comes down to the offensive line making it happen, and the pride everyone takes in winning games."Â￾

Gerhart is having another Monster game. He is carving up the UCLA defense with bursts of speed and cutting ability and just scored his second TD on a 10 yarder. Gerhart has 80 rushing yards on 5.3 YPC already and it's not even half way through the 2nd quarter. The NFL may try to "white"wash him from the league, but it's going to be very hard. We just have to hope the right team drafts him. Also, Stanford may have a shot at a BCS bowl. Now that they have a prolific passing attack with a quality QB in Andrew Luck, they could win the Pac 10.

Toby is a load. He is just like a raging bull running the ball. Then he has the speed, the vision, and the ability to make people miss in addition to just running them over. To sum it up, he is the complete running back. There is nothing that he cannot do. UCLA was only giving up 79 yards rushing a game coming into todays game. Toby has already went over that in the first half. He should be considered for the Heisman in my opinion. Obvioulsy he probably won't but he deserves to be in the conversation. If only they could have beat Wake Forest. That loss hurt bad.

Toby will lead the conference in rushing with out a doubt. I would like it evey better if he could lead the nation. I want him to come close to his 2000 yards prediction. Good luck Toby. Go Stanford.

That's a good point WL. The UCLA rush defense is very good and the UCLA coach was even quoted in a newspaper article saying that this game hinges on his team's ability to contain Gerhart. Well it doesn't look like they're having much success at that.

Gerhart is arguably the very best draft eligible tailback in the FBS right now and he definitely looks like the best senior for sure. He's the best powerback for sure and it isn't even close.

I have 14 of 23 being white. That is about what Stanford's class was last year. They seem to be going darker at WR, S, and OL, but they recruited Brandon Bourbon, a white RB. LB and DE also seem to be mostly white.

Don't forget receiver Ryan Whalen. He caught six passes for 118 yards. Not shabby.

From the Stanford football website: "Talented wideout emerged as Stanford's
top receiver last season...consistent performer who has reliable
hands...technically sound player who has improved in all facets as a
receiver...originally made the team as a walk-on in 2007, but quickly
earned scholarship status in fall camp."

It doesn't surprise me in the least that Stanford is doing really well. Coach Harbaugh and crew have built a really good football team, and Toby G. is just a fantastic footballer. Ever experience a raging bull rush you with wild eyes, 1500-2000 pounds of wild athleticism coming right at you, snortin' and aching to crush you. That's ole Toby. Fast, hits the hole, crushes defenders, goes right around them, and right through them. Better bring a whole posse if you want to get him down 'cause one is not going to get 'er done. Man, he sure would do well on my old Steeler team, but, oops, he's the wrong color. Oh well, perhaps some team will give him a real chance at the next level. I doubt it. In the meantime, Stanford is a very good, entertaining football team, and I feel they can beat any team in the conference, including USC. Finally, I must say that the college games such as the Stanford v. UCLA game today are much more entertaining than the boring (N)ot for whites (F)ootball (L)eague (NFL) games on Sunday.

he really does bring it on. UCLA tried their best to stop him, they were solid tacklers for the most part and yet he would always get a positive gain. i don't think any one guy stopped him more than twice, from what i've seen today.

grats to Toby!

Awesome news, Sober! If only Toby was a "real athlete," his dominance in college might actually mean NFL carries.

I was eating dinner at work last night while watching the highlights of the UCLA v Standford game. I'll admit it, that I don't follow the college game like I used to, but they keep showing highlights of Toby. I said who is this. He looks like John Riggo reincarnated. Wow! Today I viewed his YouTube video. He is spectacular. Now I have a reason to look forward to Saturday mornings. Go TOBY!
