damn we've once again been reduced to hoping for a White guy to get 6 to 8 touches, not carries, touches. He'll probably get 3 to 4 carries and 2 to 3 receptions. This is no different than many of the White "fullbacks" we've rooted for like Brian Leonard. He had a low ypc with 4 starting linemen out, and the starting qb. Steven Jackson averaged a similar ypc under the same circumstances, just like Denard did with Toby. Never got another chance to get another shot. Shoelace has hit a wall in recent weeks, failing to top 60 yards rushing in four straight games. He's also been blowing assignments in pass protection. If Robinson can't play against Baltimore, it'll be Toby Gerhart and Jordan Todman behind Blake Bortles.

Now that Gerhart is healthy he'll be better able to show what he can do.
I'm looking forward to seeing a good game from Gerhart.
Denard Robinson is done for the season. This is Toby's chance to prove he can be a featured running back -- he's healthy now and the team's offensive line is not as bad as it was early in the season. Go Toby!

Yeah Toby got his "shot". He got 18 carries in week 1. He didnt manage to pick up 150 yards plus, so hes done as a starter in this farce of a league.
Gerhart can't catch any breaks. He gets the start tomorrow against the 4th ranked defense against the rush. Robinson got his 1st start against Cleveland who was ranked 27th at the time with a depleted defensive line. I am hoping for the best for him tomorrow but with a poor inexperienced offensive line and going against a good defense against the run he will have to pull out a superman cape to have just a good day. This guy had had some of the worst luck and unfortunate circumstances i have seen in my life starting with being drafted by Minnesota for some unknown reason when they had the best running back in the league. Then goes to jacksonville the same year Peterson has his meltdown. If Peterson had imploded just one year earlier Toby would have been the starter playing for an offensive line he did extremely well running behind. Our luck with white running backs in college and the pros has been horrible. It seems our guys either have injury plagued senior years in college or have their worst year running the football in their senior year. Depressing.

For me, Gerhart's last couple of performances proved he could be a 1,000 yard NFL RB if given consistent opportunities.
Some things have been said about his age (27), and his best years could be behind him, however, I'm holding out hope that he could still have some very productive seasons.

This seems like a pretty fair assessment of Gerhart's season and future prospects. Denard Robinson fizzled after a few good games and likely will be regarded as not good or durable enough to be the team's feature back, which doesn't shut Gerhart out from the picture next year. We'll have to wait and see if the Jaguars draft a running back with an early pick, but whether they do or not Gerhart needs to find a way to stay healthy:

The cards are always stacked against white runningbacks!! Like others have stated numerous times for Toby its not a question about his skill set, its about his ability to stay healthy! Hopefully Jacksonville drafts a couple more linemen this year.
Bradie Ewing, the only fullback on the Jags' roster, has been released and it looks like none other than Toby Gerhart will be replacing him.

I saw this story yesterday on PFT and most of the remarks were the typical DWF insults. One commenter played the black QB race card saying that blacks are discriminated at that position...these DWFs are such a lost cause. Somehow the supposed QB discrimination is just as bad if not worse than the RB, WR, TE, LB, Safety, d-line and CB discrimination whites have been facing since the early-mid 80s.
I honestly cannot believe that people think black QBs are discriminated against - each year they trot the next black jesus QB out and every year the QB fails to deliver to the hype.
As far as Toby, it looks like this is his last go round. He is 28 and finally a full fledged victim of the caste system.

That article is typical of the illogical crap that passes for sports writing. On the one hand Toby being moved to the "H-back" position is not completely bad (if true), it would give him a chance to get the ball in space which could showcase his skills. Percy Harvin isn't a "fullback" and he's the classic H-back in the minds of most DWF's.
However the article goes on to say that Gerhart is lucky the Jags can move him to fullback instead of dumping his big salary to save cash. Sure. Keep the big salary guy and move him to fullback, a position that is probably the 2nd lowest average pay rate behind long snappers. Obviously the Jags can get a fullback anywhere, and cheap. Many teams don't even really have one.
The bad thing about this is that it may be the way they are easing him out the door. If he is still getting injured in camp this year they will cut him. But despite the tremendous upside of Denard Robinson and Storm Johnson, the Jags know that they are better off hoping he can recover and help the team.
I guess the only bright side in all this is he is still relatively fresh at his age with the little use he has gotten in his abbreviated career. Maybe he can be a late bloomer like Hillis.

Things don't look good but I think we need to wait til after the draft to see how things shake out. If the Jags take a Gordon or a Gurley in the top 3 rounds, Toby's goose could be cooked.

That was a really good video. He showed pretty good speed if you ask me. What a damn shame about all of the injuries last year. He is usually a workhorse who can carry the whole load by himself. Hope we haven't seen the last of him. His senior year in college was the most fun I had watching football since Luke Staley played at BYU back in the day.

Those are some great Toby highlights. I can see why Jacksonville signed him, and I'm sure they are as perplexed as anyone by Toby's mediocre year, which was the most depressing aspect of last season for me.
