They might be the slowest team in the NHL!

Could it be because they are an old team? A lot of Carolina games are shown on my Fox Sports channel, and the games usually put me to sleep because of how slow Carolina is.

Carolina has a pretty good fanbase, but I'm afraid that might change because of the awful play. They are just a mess right now.

Howdy Deadlift,

Can one think of a more difficult task? Than that of maintaining dominance with an NHL team. The NHL is the ultimate parity machine, and it's because of a circumstance that doesn't exist in any other sport: Universal competence of hockey programs in every White country in the world. Essentially, even the huge NHL with 700 roster players is stocked from stem to stern with magnificent talent. From Alex Ovechkin to the Fourth-line Right Wing on the Toronto Maple Leafs, there are simply no unskilled chumps in the NHL. Minor league teams are bursting with talent.

With every team being so good, the Last-shall-be-First draft system assures talent spread everywhere. The occasional team where things "fall apart" temporarily makes headlines, like the Carolina Hurricanes. But you mark my words, whether they take drastic action and fire coaches and cycle in new players from other teams or their farm system -- or if they "stand pat" and try to improve with the existing roster and staff -- Carolina will turn around, THIS season, and be a competitive team. I think that Carolina and Toronto will both finish frighteningly close to .500 this year, and that Carolina will eventully acquire a winning record -- too much talent carried over from great teams over the past five years.Edited by: Realgeorge

YES, slow skaters!

After the first period against Florida the other day, Carolina's coach was interviewed and he said, "we might not be the most blazingly-fast team..."

So even he had to admit what was obvious! Carolina ended up losing 3-0.

For whatever reason, Carolina tends to be awful in the 3rd Period.

Just like last night at Buffalo..
