The attitudes start early

Pardon me for posting this under college basketball but it is basketball related. I'm coaching my son's 6th grade rec league team and have a couple of black kids on the team. Guess who the only two kids are that already have an attitude? In the first game, they would pass to each other but just about refused to pass to their white teammates. In practice on Saturday the one who did show up had an attitude all day and I finally had to sit him down. He wouldn't tie his shoes, wouldn't hustle, had his mouth stuck out about something and when I sit him out of a controlled scrimmage (we had 7 there and were going 3 on 3 so one had to sit) he wandered off and I assumed he had gone to get a drink. Both of them have tried to tell me how to coach and were openly critical of me while on the bench. My wife was sitting there and overheard one of them with a running commentary on what I needed to be doing. They didn't like it when they asked if they could shoot 3 pointers and I told them absolutely not.

Maybe I just lucked in to a couple of real ringers but I have a feeling it's more a cultural thing. So many of today's blacks think it's their birthright to play basketball and whites not only can't play but know nothing of the game. I live in a small town with a good D-III team and it's refreshing to see a team play good team basketball. The team is mostly white and the few blacks on the team play more of a white style, no ghetto ball and they all have good attitudes.

Nothing unusual from what I've seen. If you have a lot of black kids there will be some quiet ones but if you only have a couple they usually revert to TNB pretty quick.
