With an assault weapon in each hand, rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent urged National Rifle Association members to be "hardcore, radical extremists demanding the right to self defense."

Speaking at the NRA's annual convention Saturday, Nugent said each NRA member should try to enroll 10 new members over the next year and associate only with other members.

"Let's next year sit here and say, 'Holy smokes, the NRA has 40 million members now,'" he said. "No one is allowed at our barbecues unless they are an NRA member. Do that in your life."

Yeah, the Nuge rules. Would that he was racialist, and that every white male in this country had his attitude.

Too bad the NRA is soooooo stuck on the OTHER Left -Liberal party in this country. The NRA interviewer didn't even have the balls to ask W a real question, like "Sir, how the hell could you say you'd renew Clinton's gun ban?"

I can understand the rationalebehind clinging to the lesser evil, but if they'd help out the Constitutionalists or Libertarians just abit, we might start seeing change for the better in this country, instead of it simply getting worse at a slower pace.

Nugent is also a rock and roll rarity because he was never into drugs, unless he was lying about it which I doubt. He has lots of natural energy to put it mildly. It's too bad more whites aren't like him instead of needing drugs of one kind or another to let it rip!

Ted is one of my favorite Rock stars. His song "Cat Scratch Fever" always makes me feel like banging my head on something.

I admire and respect him and I just joined the NRA two months ago.

It's too bad that "The Nuge" wasn't taking classes at VT this past year. Lives could have been saved.

I wouldn't be surpsied if Ted was already a member of this site.

I could see him now, with his own personal user-name signature at the bottom of his posts that reads:
"Gun control means using both hands.".

I like Ted's guitar playing (the only guy who uses a Jazz guitar to play heavy metal) and his support of gun rights and hunting. In this respect, he's in the American libertarian frontiersman tradition.

However, I don't like the way he has embraced the neo-con war without end agenda. He should realize that wars tend to promote statism--which will ultimately destroy his gun rights.

Agree completely -- but still, the "white" power structure regards rock music and the whole rock "culture," such as it is, as "theirs," as in irretrievably liberal when it comes to politics. The sight of Nugent holding up two machine guns and making threats about Barack and Hillary, to the apparent unanimous approval ofa largecrowd of rock fans, must be a horrifying sight indeed to theirdevilish eyes.

I can remember reading a Hight Times interview Ted did way way back in the early eighties. He was adamant about not using drugs, and he was funny and witty and smart as hell. He said that during the Detroit riots he climbed to the roof of a friend's business with a rifle and made sure the rioters didn't touch that particular building. He didn't go into the details.

When protesters showed up at his Hollywood star in the sidewalk ceremony, Ted said "It's important that the weenies show up to protest, to show that you aren't one."

The years have not mellowed Ted.

Ted Nugent is a coward. During the Vietnam war he dodged the draft. I won't repeat how he did it, it is too disgusting. Check the chickenhawk site or the article in the Times Argus.
This is the reason I never connected to Nugent. I could just feel that he was a phony. His contemporaries either served or atleast had good excuses.
(BTW, I am not shocked by his drug use. Compared to others, he was a moderate.)

Screaming Eagle, Once a coward is not always a coward. Of course, I am not saying he ever was one. Ted Nugent has evolved and changed alot over the years and I enjoy listening to his music and his commentaries.

Ted Nugent can defend himself. I don't know whether he is or ever was a coward. I am certain that not wanting to fight in Vietnam does not, in and of itself, make one a coward.

A lot of the problem I have with the Nugh is his image. He grew up in Hoffman states, Il. (a nice, peaceful suburb), but somehow he became the "Motor city madman." If he had been some hippie with a flower in his hand singing about giving peace a chance it would have been a different story. The thought of the Motor City Madman at the draft board with poop in his pants is too funny for words. You would think he would have wanted to be in the army! Imagine being allowed to hunt the most dangerious animal on the planet-Man! And with the best weapons! It also would have helped his music. Imagine songs about how tough Ranger training is! Or a song about a LRRP in the 'nam!
To be far, he is one of the few performers who are not afraid to open for the band, Man Of War. I also miss the columns that his mother wrote for the Illinois entertainer. She was a better defender of Rock n' Roll than her song.
This has got me thinking. I also wonder how Bruce Springsteen dodged the draft, or the guys from the band, Chicago. Why weren't the guys in Crosby, Still, ect. in the armed forces? So, the nugh wasn't the only wimp around at the time. I guess the Nugh was like Dick Cheney, he had better things to do.

I would have dodged the draft for every American war except the following:

The Revolution and it's continuance in 1812

The War to Keep Texas out of Mexican hands (We didn't take it from THEM, we took it from the Comanches for them. BIG difference.)

The War against Yankee aggression.

Our reasons are for going to the rest were/are just a wee bit murky for me to happily die in horrible ways.

You know, I think this is a major reason the State illegalized dueling. It would be a little difficult to tell someone who had faced death at dawn they were a coward for not fighting in The-War-To-Restrain-One-Band-Of-Barbarous-Scum-From-Killing- The-Other, or whatever we're fighting for these days. A kid nowadays has no better answer for "proving" the Big Whatever mortal combat is supposed to prove than going over and weathering the IEDs, hopefully coming back with all members still intact. So the millitary gets soldiers. Also, a few too many hawks might even get challenged and shot, if we still let people meet for coffee and pistols at dawn.

White Savage, you brought up some good points. After totally defeating the Mexican armies, American forces showed that they were disciplined by not indulging in an orgy of rape and pillage like other countries would have. The US paid for california and other territories. Mexico. This land was mostly populated by hostile indians. The mexicans thought they were giving us a lemon. The mexicans never noted the aboundant amount of gold that was lying on the surface of northern california. The US also paid Mexico's foreign debts. We sent the money directly to borrowing nation and not let the mexicans get their greedy hands on it. We thaought that it would stabilize Mexico. Mexico responded by borrowing more money and in 1860 the French had to invade to collect.
The Commanches had to learn how to fight a new enemy that would not run and could shoot straight, but that is another story.

Howard Stern used the same trick as Nugent to dodge Vietnam. He put Peanut Butter in his underwear. Howard Stern is an *******, did the apple fall far from the tree with Nugent?

You decide.
While I do not care for Stern (I find him boring), it should be noted that he was the only white boy in a black school. That may explain why he acts the way he does.

BTW, I may need opinions on the subject of dueling. I will be posting it in another category.
