Stokley Strictly In The Slot

I don't know if many of you caught last week's Colts' game, but even I
was astounded to see that Troy Walters, and not Brandon Stokley,
started for the injured Marvin Harrison. Stokley played quite a bit,
but always in the customary "white" slot position. This seems to be
clear-cut proof that, even on his own team, Stokley will never be
elevated to a starting WR position, even if it means playing behind a
no-name derelict like Walters. This is just another strong piece of
evidence that the Caste System will be very, very hard to overthrow. I
also have to ask, once again, where Stokley's alleged buddy Peyton
Manning was when the team started Walters over him. Of course, I'm sure
Stokley was only too happy to let a less talented black start in
place of him, but why doesn't Manning use his influence to help his
"buddy" or at least protest?

Is Stokley ever let out of the slot position?

One would think that occasionally ALL the WRs would be moved around to help and try and create miss-matches but I guess that wouldn't be good for the Caste System..

what really irks me is that Stokley is easily the second best receiver on this team... both Brandon and Dallas should have 6-12 catches per game...

Peyton would probably seen as playing favorites wouldn't he?

Black players say "I gots to get mines."

White players say "Whatever is best for the team."

543 yards is still pretty good for a white reciever in today's game.

Stokley was cut by the Colts yesterday. Can't say it's a big surprise given his injury history.

This might not necessarily end up being a bad thing. Another team should pick up Stokley on the cheap and maybe he'll play a fair amount if he's healthy as he's a proven receiver.

And this opens up competition on the Colts for the #3 receiver spot. Maybe John Standeford will finally get his long-deserved opportunity to play in the NFL. He's been on the fringes of the Colts roster for the past two years, and was even on the Super Bowl game roster last month though as an inactive.

Tracking the comings and goings in free agency

"By Adam Schefter
NFL Analyst

Tuesday, March 20
The Denver Broncos reached agreement on a one-year deal with free-agent wide receiver Brandon Stokley. The 30-year-old Stokley also visited the New Orleans Saints but opted for the Broncos. Stokley is coming off a torn achilles, but he is expected to be ready for training camp."

good news for Broncos, he and Scheffler should get their share of looks from Jay Cutler.

Sounds like one of those good news bad news scenarios, as it will probably mean the end of David Kircus in Denver and most likely his NFL career. The Broncos re-signed journeyman Quincy Morgan, who took over kick returning duty from Kircus in mid-season, so Kircus looks like the odd man out. If so that would be a shame because he has lots of skill, good height and speed, and terrific hands. Given Stokley's injury history, I'd prefer to see Kircus on the field catching long balls from Jay Cutler.. .

Who was fielding punts by the end of last year? I know Kircus had a muff or two but he definitely has the punt returning ability. It'd be such a shame to see him bounced out of the league, that guy is one hell of an athlete.

From AP:

Second-year pro Brandon Marshall is expected to start alongside Javon Walker.

Stokley will be an insurance policy for Rod Smith, who had surgery on his left hip on Feb. 26 and is expected to be out four months. Smith, who will turn 37 in May, had just 52 catches last season, his fewest since 1996.

So typical of how the NFL works. Marshall had just 20 receptions in his rookie season in '06, yet has been annointed a starter and will now presumably start for several years even if he's obviously not up to the task. Meanwhile, former thousand yard receiver Stokley, still in hispeak years at the age of 30,is merely "insurance" for Rod Smith, who is another example of the "venerated black leader/warrior" who continues to start even after he's clearly washed up. And anyone who follows the Broncos knows that Smith, while having an excellent career, slowed dramatically last season to the point where he was pretty much a shell of his former self, yet he'll have his starting gig again this season even after being out four months following surgery. And as I predicted above, Kircus is already completely out of the mix and down the Broncos' memory hole.

Peyton could very well be afraid of being called a "racist." However, he is one of the few people in any profession that could possibly get away with what passes for "racism" these days. He may get criticized for it ala Mel Gibson, but his career would more then likely not be affected by it.
