I found an interesting "old news" on Steve Nash. I know some may already know this. It's amazing how certain things become forgotten in time.

Nash hits game-winner (Dec. 26, 2001)

Just today, I stumbled onto an NBA replay (Mavs vs. Spurs) by chance which dated Dec. 26, 2001. It was a regular season classic, where Tim Duncan scored 53 points (career-best), but the Mavs won 126-123 in OT. Nash hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds left. Nash had 27 points, while Dirk had 26 points and 11 rebounds. Even then, Nash and Dirk were already amazing. I honestly never knew this until now.

Late update... Nash schools Jennings. I can't deny Jennings will become a great player, despite being your classic ball-hog (ala Iverson). But Nash showed who's better, and quite frankly, Nash will always be better no matter what. Suns win over Bucks, 105-101. It's Nash's 6th career 30-10 (points, assists) game.

30 points (12-18 FG's, 2-4 3pt's, 4-4 FT's)
7 rebounds
11 assists

I've long complained about white players lack of shoe deals.. Well Nash finally has his own shoe deal with Nike! They're a little bit on the expensive side, but if you are sick and tired of wearing black players shoes.(Trust me it's hard not to) These basketball shoes are the perfect fit for yourself or a family member. I plan on ordering mine in the near future. http://www.sneakerfiles.com/2007/09/24/nike-zoom-bb-low-steve-nash/

Looks like they came out in 2008, but I have yet to see a commercial promoting them. Either way I thought it was pretty cool to see Nash finally get a deal.

This reminds me of something a local talk show host named "Sparky" said a few months ago. They were discussing point guards and he went on a tirade against Steve Nash. He said many players were better than Nash and he would take Brandon Jennings over him any day.

He said the athletes on the team running up and down the floor made Nash look good.

I just checked the stats of both players. Nash absolutely KILLS Jennings in all important stats and leads the league in assists.

Nash may be incredible but Brandon Jennings knows that making too many shots makes his other teammates look bad. He doesn't want to show them up which is why he routinely shoots 1 for 8 or 2 for 9. Sometimes he even throws in 3 for 16 games for good measure. Not only that, he also knows that the key to winning games is to get the ball to their "athletic" awesome big man Andrew Bogut and let him dominate. lol

Late update... Steve Nash has scored past 15,000 points (15,037 as of now), he's the 16th active player to do so. It's an amazing accomplishment for someone who averaged just 3.3 points per game in 1996-97 (rookie season).

Nash could also score past 10,000 points (9,100 as of now) as a Suns player by season's end. Edited by: j41181

PERFECT NIGHT for Captain Canada (Steve Nash)!!!
smiley32.gif

Suns gain crucial vs. Wizards 125-108.

If the Suns gain more wins and move safely above .500, it's another trip to the All-Star game for Steve Nash. This ain't the numbers of a 37-year old player.

20 points (8-8 FG's, 1-1 3pt, 3-3 FT's)

3 rebounds
17 assists (season-high)

It looks like Nash has no chance of leading the league in assists this season. Still, very nice numbers for Steve.

Other than Magic Johnson, who was built more like LeBron than a true point guard (not to take anything away from Magic), the next three great all-time point guards have been John Stockton, Bob Cousy, and Steve Nash. Cousy being the first "superstar" point guard, Stockton being the prototype point guard, and Nash being a blend of those two legends.

I'm glad to see that other posters' recognize that Brandon Jennings is overrated.. he was 5-16 (in FGs) today in a loss to the Heat.

Bogut was 4-12 which isn't great, but it's not many shot-attempts either.

As good as Magic was, I thinkacase can be made for Oscar Robertsonbeing the discussion for bestPG of all-time.Heaverageda triple double (30 ppg,11 assists, and10 rebounds) over his first 5 years in the league, and ended up with the betterall-around numbers with less around him.

I'd also put Isiah Thomas a notch below Stockton, but ahead of Cousy and Nash. Cousy's shooting, and Nash's Dallas years hurt him a bit as far as all-time numbers are concerned. When it's all said and done, however, I'll probably have Nash 4, Isiah 5.

In all-time point guard discussions, Thomas' trump cards are his two rings.

The only reason Steve doesn't have a ring is because he left the Mavs. I guess Kobe and Shaq would be another though. Now it's Kobe and Gasol. Steve Nash is better than Thomas. Karl Malone doesn't have a ring like Stockton yet they are two of the best of all time. Isaiah could never do some of the things Nash does.

Overrated "Igayuh" Thomas couldn't hold Stockton OR Nash's jock strap(s). Nash is the best guard in the league...hands down.

Nashis a stud, but only on theoffensive side of the ball. He's adefensive liability, and aturnover machine.Chris Paul has a better all around game. Nash is onlya slightly better shooter, while Paul is a much betterball denial defender, has quadruple the steals, more rebounds, and fewer turnovers.

Nash didn't become a freak until he was 30. Paul was a freak at 22, and will be among the top handful of PG's when he's done as well.. especially if he joins Stoudemire andGallinari (or Carmelo) inNew York next year.

Oscar Robertson also played shooting guard I think. He was just a guard like Jerry West.
Stockton was better than Isaiah. I don't remember Isaiah much but he was down by 1993 or so and he came into the league in 1981 I think. Also, his skills rapidly deteriorated his last few years. He was a great player, but the Pistons were a great TEAM, however they bridged the gap between the Celtics- Lakers Dynasties and the Bulls dynasties. Kind of like the Rockets championships when MJ was retired.

You're selling the Bad Boys Pistons way short if you're comparing them to the Rockets teams. The Rockets never had wars against HOF laden teams like the Stones had with the Celtics, Bulls and Lakers. The Pistons both lost to and beat Bird's Celtics, Magic's Lakers and Jordan's Bulls. Bird was hurt in '89, but as good as ever in '90, McHale was still a 20 ppg scorer and that was still a 50+ win team. The Lakers were still loaded, winning 60+ games in 1990 and then making the Finals again after the Pistons' back-to-backs. The Pistons were doing it in one of the strongest stretches of NBA history and were legitimate peers of those teams. The Rockets won their titles during one of the weakest stretches.

Stockton as better than Thomas is revisionist as well. After Stockton made the Dream Team ahead of him, Thomas repeatedly put 40 points on him (other than the game where, lest it happen again, the Mailman knocked Isiah out with not 40 points but 40 stitches. Just as the Thomas and the Pistons ended runs by legendary teams like the Celtics and Lakers, Stockton and Malone had the chance to end the dynasty of Jordan and the Bulls in '98. But they didn't, which is why they'll be remembered as statistical greats and worthy Hall of Famers, but not at the legendary level of the game's champions.Edited by: GreatLakeState

GreatLakeState,

Yeah the Pistons, as I said were a great TEAM. They went 10 deep. Great defense and good big men.
They had Dumars, another All Star and Vinnie Johnson off the bench. Laimbeer at center, another All Star.
Mark Aguirre who was a solid scorer. Rodman, who should be in the Hall of Fame, along with James Edwards,
John Salley and Rick Mahorn. So Zeke had some help.

Olajuwon's 1994 team had a back court of an old Kenny Smith, Vernon Maxwell, and a young Sam Cassell. At the forwards were Otis Thorpe who played in a couple of all-star games but no superstar, a solid Mario Ellie, and a young Robert Horry. Not that much help around Hakeem. Just a good power forward, some shooters and some solid role players. But they beat Ewing in his prime and Shaq's Magic. The Pistons beat an ancient Kareem with a hurt Magic and Byron Scott and a Blazers team with Kevin Duckworth. Arguably, Isaiah had more help around him than did Hakeem.

Oh, and the Rockets beat those Utah teams as well as some loaded Suns teams.

Isaiah fit in well with the Pistons. He was the scorer they needed. I think he was the right fit for Detroit and Stockton was the right fit for Utah. If those guys switched teams I don't think they have the same success. At the end of the day though, Stockton is the league's all-time leader in assists and steals and Isaiah is not. Both Isaiah and Stockton lost to Jordan in his prime.

Both were great point guards but if you were to draft an all-time team, I think that Stockton goes ahead of Thomas.

Steve Nash dishes season-high 19 ASSISTS in a much needed 128-122 Suns win against the Wolves. He also scored 11 points.

I though that "stinger" injury against Dallas would keep Nash out for 1-2 games. Instead, he simply returns and leads the Suns to a crucial 113-110 win against the Thunder. Nash had a near perfect game...

20 points (7-9 FG's, 2-2 3pt's, 4-4 FT's)
4 rebounds
10 assists

Goran Drgaic was solid as well... 11 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal

Steve Nash.... The ULTIMATE WARRIOR!!!

Another spectacular performance, but wins are becoming rare for the once blazing Suns (118-109 OT win over Nets). The trade for Carter, Gortat, and Pietrus seems to have ruined the teams overall chemistry. While a period of adjusting is needed for these players, they likely don't fit the Suns' up-tempo style of play. They still could make the playoffs, if they could put together brief winning streaks (5 or 6 at most). Quite a sad predicament for one of the best Point Guards of his generation, let alone in NBA history.

The two young Slovenians of both teams are on the rise...

Goran Dragic - 9 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
Sasha Vujacic - 19 points (5-8 3pt's), 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals

Big win for the Suns, and another vintage effort from Steve Nash...

23 points (8-14 FG's, 2-4 3pt's, 5-7 FT's)
6 rebounds
13 rebounds
1 steal

One of the best knockdown shooters I've ever seen. I hope the win is the start of better things to come.
