Sebastian Sylvester 31-3(15) will face Dominican Giovanni Lorenzo 27-1(19) this Saturday for the vacant IBF Middleweight title. Lorenzo has the height advantage at 6'0 compared to Sylvester who is 5'7 but the match will be held in Germany which should give Sylvester the home advantage. A Sylvester win would put us at something like 16 or 17 world champions above middleweight...I lost count.

If Sylvester wins, 16 of the 20 titleholders from middleweight to heavyweight will be white. Many of those titles are to be challenged by non-white fighters this year:

Arreola vs. Klitschko
Dirrell vs. Froch
Haye vs. Valuev
Ward vs. Kessler
Andrade vs. Bute
Williams vs. Pavlik
Afolabi vs. Huck

But we have a chance to get two more:

Brudov vs. Jones
Branco vs. Pascal (unlikely)
Diaconu vs. Pascal (December)

Neither Sylvester nor Lorenzo are quite elite, although both are probably close to world-class. There's better middleweights, such as Gennady Golovkin and Dmitry Pirog. We'll likely see the winner against one of those two before long.

I could see Haye beating Valuev. Other than that I think we will every fight except the Branco vs Pascal fight. Silvio Branco is too old at this point in his career to compete with the young Pascal. He has a small chance though as he is a seasoned veteran.

People who watched it in Europe are saying the American woman's score of 116-111 for Lorenzo was ridiculous. They say Sylvester clearly outboxed Lorenzo and won the fight. So it seems Sylvester was robbed of a well-deserved UD.

But we have a new IBF middleweight champion, Sebastian Sylvester!

People(DWFs) often complain about decisions overseas but some of the strangest overseas scorecards I've seen were actually made by American Judges. For instance in the Zsolt Erdei-vs-Tito Mendoza fight which was held in Germany, the black American judge Eugene Glenn scored the fight 117-111 in favor of Mendoza who I thought won 3 maybe 4 rounds at the most. Glenn later admitted he may have mixed up the fighters

Here's where I found that out http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:1230579

Then you have the first fight between Krzysztof Wlodarczyk and Steve Cunningham when American judge Charlie Dwyer gave Cunningham 11 of the 12 rounds

Anybody who saw this fight knows that the match was very close and difficult to score.

I actually think European judges are fairer. Look at the way Calzaghe almost got screwed in the states. He clearly beat Popkins but didn't get a UD. One fight where I will admit the judges in Europe screwed up was Valuev-Holyfield. Holyfield won that fight but not by much.

The fight is off. Navascues tested positive for a banned substance. Sauerland is searching for a new opponent for Sylvester. The new opponent should be announced shortly.

Sylvester's opponent will be white American Billy Lyell 21-7(4) from Niles, Ohio. Three fights ago Lyell upset undefeated contender "Irish" John Duddy by decision.

Sylvester won by TKO in round 10. I didn't watch the fight but from the scores up to that point it looked like a pretty easy victory for Sebastian.

Sylvester being younger will likely win, but you never know.

He keeps his belt since it was a draw.  I haven't seen the fight so I can't say if the judges screwed him.

The judges did screw Karmazin. A brawl broke out after the fight over one of the scorecards.

Two robberies today. The worse one was when Jo Jo Dan schooled Selcuk Aydin and yet somehow lost by SD.
