It's official, McGuffie is gone. He says Texas A&M is the front runner. I think this will be good for him. He'll get a year out of the spotlight, get his health in order (three concussions is nothing to take lightly) and will be closer to home. Being from the state of Michigan, I'm sad I won't be able to watch him as much, but this is probably for the best.

I don't want Sam to pick A&M. Ryan Swope is going there and he is almost as talented as Sam in a different playing style.

I want Sam to pick TCU or Texas Tech out of his four choices listed. Texas Tech would probably run more if they brought McGuffie in; especially since Graham Harrell will be gone. At Oklahoma State he might get buried on the depth chart after already sitting out his first year by rule.

Good call jaxvid, I just thought he was a newbie that didn't quite know the vibe of this forum. Now that you mention it I have seen it before were people try to be covert, but let their true intentions unwittingly be known.

And by the way, I wish the very best for McGuffie at his new school. I hope he looks into it hard, picks the best situation, works out like a beast over the next 19 months or so and makes a great impact when he returns!Edited by: Electric Slide

I'd love to see Sam at Texas Tech or Texas Christian. I wish he'd picked a school close to home to begin with. I can sympathize with Sam and what he has gone through at Michigan.

I have mixed feelings about McGuffie going to A&M. With Swope and possibly Burkhead coming in from high school to compete with Sam at RB, someone is going to get left out. Then you have Tannehill, Beyer, and Holland all young WR competing for playing time. It would be great if all of these talented white playmakers would get playing time at the offensive skill positions, but I am not holding my breath.

Do we know for sure that Sam will be going to A&M?

Sam should go to the Texas Longhorns in my opinion. They have treated Jordan Shipley very well especially since he has dealt with multiple injuries. He would be a perfect fit there. Sam would also be on a perrinial top ten team with a chance to be on tv alot and win a national championship in front of his family.

I was thinking of adding Texas to the two teams I listed above, white lightning. I think you might be right about him getting a fair shot there. I guess we'll see what happens.

That is astounding that Texas wouldn't want him after the kind of jaw dropping numbers he put up in the highest level of H.S football in Texas. We all know he has incredible talent from his highlight tapes.

But even if Texas did want him I believe Sam should go to Texas Tech or TCU. There would be less competition for him for playing time and they are both good teams. TCU and Texas Tech did both get a high level recruit already this year at RB, but I believe Sam would find himself at least as part of a duel threat backfield for either team before his career was up.

TCU is the 2nd best program in Texas right now, in my book, plus it is doing a major facilities overhaul. I think he'd be nuts to go to TAMU, which has been downright lousy of late, and both TAMU and TTU usually play blacks over whites of equal or comparable talent. TCU, on the other hand, currently has a white running back - Ryan Christian - which they use heavily in their rotation which includes Aaron Brown. Christian is not in the same echelon of talent as McGuffie, so just imagine how much PT a back like McGuffie would get at TCU.

TCU would be a dangerous pick for Sam.
Patterson will not be there by the time Sam is eligible. He's too good. Patterson and Bumpas will both be at BCS conference schools after next season. So Sam would be in the troublesome position of having a new coach who hadn't seen him in practices with the team and who might not even care for the running game at all.
Theoretically, the best choice would be one of the big-time schools that had an unfortunate season and just fired their coach and will be starting Spring with a brand new guy. However, I would never recommend Mississippi State to anyone, and Auburn picked a proven loser to replace Tuberville. So both of those schools are out. Petrino needs a running back at Arkansas, and he will be there for several years, but he likes his boys like he likes his coffee (you know the saying).
Houston Nutt is a complete scoundrel and a piss poor football coach. He is more likely to put out a contract hit on Sam than put him in the backfield.
Southern Miss is a good location for a transfer. Their RB recruits don't have Sam's performance pedigree and their coach will be in his second year and he's already quite popular.
TAMU... Who knows how long Sherman will last. And the Aggies know that Sam chose Michigan over them. Would they be willing to accept him now?
I'm sure he could get on the field immediately at North Texas

. Although none of their running backs ever actually carry the ball. I am less familiar with the coach/team situations further west. But I know Sam probably wants to stay close to Texas.

Everything I've read suggests that A&M plans to make Swope a WR. Competition with Sam shouldn't be a problem.

Wow, bad news! Swope would be an excellent RB. They just never let these white kids play their best position if it's tailback. Swope is Scout.com's 41st RB overall and he is ranked on Rivals as the #52 overall athlete. I thought after watching his highlights that Michael Campanaro (#46 Athlete overall on Rivals and 68th overall WR on Scout.com) would be a better candidate to switch to WR after playing mostly tailback in H.S. But maybe Wake Forest will put Campanaro at RB.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

A&M might be a fun team to watch in 2010, if all these great white players are actually used. Wherever Sam goes, I wish him the best.

Now A&M needs a better QB and better o-line recruits to help open up the offense. A&M will have lots of white skill players with NFL talent.

BTW guys, Michigan has gone from being one of my favorite teams to my very least favorite!

Mike Sherman was a very rigid Casteadherent when he coached the Packers. The only white players were Favre and on the o-line. Aaron Kampman was the only white player on defense, and he had to go through a racial apprenticeship before his superstar ability was allowed to be utilized. When it comes to A&M being fair to white players, I'll believe it when I see it.

Don't forget Ryan Tanhill at QB, even though he had a standout freshman season as a WR, didn't he said somewhere that he didn't give up on being TAMU's QB somday?

Well it appears that McGuffie's transfer is in fact due to wanting to be closer to home and help his brother and the fact that he had 3 concussions; locker room problems with other players doesn't appear to be the factor.

I am angry that after the guy has 2 concussions that Rodriguez would put him in the most dangerous position in football to return another kickoff. What the hell was Rich Rod thinking? If a guy has had more than one concussion already in his freshman year from some vicious hits wouldn't most coaches take a precautionary stance and take him off kick-off duty? I am angry about this; McGuffie is too valuable as a RB to be returning kickoffs when he already had had concussion problems.

Maybe sitting out a year will allow him to recover and he won't get concussions anymore at A&M. I really hope so because concussions can become a recurring problem once you have more than one. I'd like to see him rush for 10,000 yards in the NFL someday and have a long and healthy career. I am not angry at the fellow Michigan players or the fans, but I am disappointed in RR for not taking precautions after Sam had a second concussion. It is also a coaches job to protect his players as well as help them become stars on the football field.

The good thing is that most of the Michigan fans reviews of him has been positive and they are wishing him the best. McGuffie should probably be used at first at A&M as part of a duel threat backfield when he is finally eligible as a precaution. 12-18 carries a game sounds about right. What do you guys think? I'd hate to see these concussion problems recur again.

Also, If he can add about 10 lbs. he won't get knocked back as hard when he gets hit. I do believe that there a few defensive players in every conference from Urban areas that would want to hit a white skill player harder, but for the most part these kind of injuries just happen as part of the game.

I wish Sam the best. Here are some articles on the situation.

RB Sam McGuffie leaving Michigan

By MARK SNYDER - FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER - December 12, 2008

Sam McGuffie is leaving the Michigan football program.

The freshman tailback's one season at U-M ended with a transfer, the Free Press has confirmed, a decision McGuffie made public Friday through an interview with TheWolverine.com.

The decision does not come as much of a surprise following coach Rich Rodriguez's recent comments.

Last Saturday, Rodriguez said he had met with McGuffie a few times since the end of the season and the tailback had not made a definite decision about his future. But in his comments the past few weeks, Rodriguez admitted that McGuffie had challenges being so far away from home, including a brother in Texas who was partially his responsibility to care for, as well as some of McGuffie's medical concerns after suffering three concussions while playing this season.

McGuffie did not attend the season-ending team banquet as the other seniors and returning players did.

He went home the last week of the season following a death in his family but returned late in the Ohio State week and appeared on the field for one play, a return, when he was hit so hard he suffered his third concussion.

McGuffie's season totals of 486 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, plus 19 catches for 175 yards and one touchdown in 10 games, were impressive. But most of the production came early in the season, including 100-plus-yard rushing games against Notre Dame and Toledo.

He was the first true freshman tailback to start a season opener for Michigan in the modern era and started the first six games before being replaced by junior Brandon Minor.

McGuffie is expected to attend a school in Texas, having strongly considered Texas A&M and Baylor.

McGuffie joins a growing list of players apparently not returning from this season's team. Rodriguez has confirmed that Zion Babb, Jason Kates and Artis Chambers are transferring, and said last Saturday that Carson Butler and Avery Horn appear to be going as well. Rodriguez said offensive lineman Cory Zirbel's playing career is over after a devastating knee injury.

Here are some of the positive comments on these articles about Sam from readers.

...Sam was definitely a talented player. We hope that he will find a good niche somewhwere, as he deserves it. No one ever wants to see a player get injured. It is too bad.

Bee-Line is doing the job with Michigan Basketball. Yes, it takes time and there will always be setbacks, but he is a good coach.

RR should be able to turn around football very fast. Clearly Michigan has more football talent than any team in the Big Ten, with the exception of OSU.

...Mcguffie has some real potential and I thought that he had the talent to be the big man on campus next year. I was surprised at his level of toughness at the ND game when he was tackled with one leg behind him and a defender falling down on it. When he got up and just shook it off I was really impressed. I think that he was probably not ready for the hard hits that the Big Ten delivers. I hope he finds that this was a good decision. If he wants to be closer to Mom and home I can understand that but the toughness can be developed and if he had any plans on playing on Sundays he probably will not get picked by the Texans or the Cowboys so eventually he will have to leave Mom anyway. Oh well, hopefully Shaw can take up the slack and we have some new guys coming in that may fill the void. Sam if you read this Good Luck wherever you go as long as you don't go to Ohio State like Boren did.GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In most cases, instead of posting a quarter mile of articles, it's best to simply post the headline, a paragraph or a few paragraphs that give the flavor of the article, and then a live link to the full article. It's a lot easier on the eyes and also avoids any copyright problems. Thanks.

Don I will go ahead and fix that article and just post a link to it instead. I hear what you are saying on copyrite problems.

I also found a link that says that Sam had "at least two concussions". So it appears that they weren't heavy ones if they are unsure of how many he had. In the article Rich Rod also indicates that Sam only had two.

I'm guilty of posting some long articles too, Don. Sorry about that. I'll try to shorten them up in the future.

Tough, for the record, its dual threat not duel threat, unless you really think he is likely to pull out a set of pistols and challenge his backfield mate at 10 paces.
