One of my favorite players at the moment.
He probably is our next hope for the NFL. I like Sean McGrew form Washington but he is stuck behind two very talented backs. McGrew's time will come next year. I am still high on Mike Epstein from Illinois. I have this strange feeling that when McCaffrey eventually becomes the every down back in the NFl ( probably about mid-season ) that Epstein will get the majority of carries for a pretty piss poor team at the moment. I hope Epstein, like Tre Smith at Auburn, does not get the blame when he does become the feature back because of a terrible o-line and questionable defense.
Looking forward to watching Nall! Pleasant surprise from last year, big back has skills!
Doing a search I see he's listed anywhere from 230 to 240+ pounds. Fat slobs like Eddie Lacy can play tailback, but a cut, fast and productive big White back almost always has to move to fullback or tight end. Toby Gerhart is the only exception I can think of and even with him there was a lot of pressure to move to fullback even after he won the Doak Walker award and finished second in the Heisman voting.
Maybe Ryan can be a Caste buster like Christian McCaffrey. If McCaffrey plays well in the NFL it might open the door a bit for him. If he has another big season, Nall should insist at the Combine that he's a tailback, much like Matt Jones refused to move to tight end when he wasn't allowed to be a running QB at the NFL level.
Just like when Oklahoma's wr Mark Andrews refused to be recruited as a tight end or play there. Guess who is the 2017 Oklahoma starting tight end as most of us already know? Nall will be a tb. mcCaffrey is going to be rookie of the year bar injury.
Yes indeed Chris 371! Last season was only his first complete season as a RB...Entered team as H-Back/TE....Ryan "Wrecking Nall" also has some wiggle & change of direction skills at 6'-2" 230-240 Size/Speed...getting compared to Steven Jackson by his RB coach.
3-Star TE by Rivals.....24/7 Sports had him as an Outside Linebacker prospect coming out of HS
The Fact this Pre-Season's NFLDraftScout.com doesn't list him in the Nations Top 20 RB's is a joke! Yet...they will after this season! Hopefully he doesn't get the Peyton Hillis treatment!
Coach Gary Anderson promised him a chance to carry the ball...but then tried to move him to LB...His RB Coach Lockette wasn't having any of it!
Ryan Nall: A Statistical Study
Can the bruising back run his way into the Oregon State record books?
I loved watching Nall last year. Really good player. It's funny to me that Lockette stuck up for him. As Lockette is from Miami and was a high school coach down here in Florida for a few years coaching at two all black schools down here (Miami Central and Miami Northwestern). He had Dalvin Cook and a lot of other guys. I'm sure he was probably hired at Oregon State to have a connection to Florida to get that "Florida speed". But here he is sticking up for the hometown white boy that was doubted.
This kid reminds me of a combo between Peyton Hillis and Mike Alstott. Nall is the real deal. I will make sure to tune
in to alot more pac 12 games this season. Especially when the Beavers are playing.
Nall has some pretty incredible break away speed once he gets in the open field. He is much more dynamic and explosive than Gerhart was for a bigger RB ( Toby was a damned beast in his own right though). He is probably our "must see" offensive player this season.
How about this praise from Lockette. What will the NFL think up to screw him over?:
What's the next step for Nall in 2017?
Just being an overall running back. This was his first complete year of playing the running back position. It's strange to say that. He's a guy that has enormous ability and can be a great one, but now he has to put it all together and fine-tune the little things and the detail things of being a running back at this level. Once he does that, I think he'll be able to take that next step moving forward. The kid right now has shown us that he can play through some pain. He's very elusive. He's a kid that right now we think of as a unicorn. A kid to be that big, that agile and that fast, you don't see that that often in this game. He is a rarity at that position. He's starting to show us every day another side that he can be a great one.
Is there another running back that you would compare him to?
The running back here, (Steven) Jackson, is a guy that he kind of in the (same build) -- size-wise and speed-wise and that ability. But he catches the ball out of the backfield so well and he has deceptive speed. You don't think a guy that size, 240 pounds and 6-foot-2, can move that fast. But if you put on the film, he runs away from people.
Ryan Nall 'a unicorn' because of size and speed, Oregon State RB coach Telly Lockette says
Nall still looks to be carrying around a bit of extra body fat. He should shred a bit so he looks like a RB and less like an athletic fullback. I realise that looks do Not equal ability/athleticism, but coaches and scouts seem to have a peculiar obsession with guys that look like fitness Models. Its not what counts, but the subconcious perception among fans and the Media is a Factor.
This is true when it comes to WHITE players. As for blacks, it doesn't matter as much since they have that "upside" quotient. Just look at Jimmy Chitwood's all-time favorite Arkansas recruit, tailback Jatashun Beachum from back in '09.
Nall is awesome.....Glad you guys started a thread......I was mad last year that I couldn't see more Pacific Coast games.....BSPN doesn't have those games on their extended package.....I was trying to watch on my iPad.....He is definitely a guy to seek out every week.....May have to pay a little extra to get those games here on the East coast....If any of you know a better way to watch, let us know......
I live in Germany so i Watch all my Football in YouTube. Lot of College Ball on YouTube. NFL Not so much.
You guys should buy an amazon firestick or a kodi box, apple tv, etc.
Yeah Good idea. Im just happy to have Internet After Two Years without
But Yeah Nall is amazing. Has breakaway Speed. I saw him outrun much lighter DBs on several occasions.
Ryan Nall, Oregon State running back, on watch list for Maxwell Award
A sign that college football is approaching? It's officially watch list season, when the sport's various awards announce candidates for their 2017 honors.
Oregon State running back Ryan Nall is one of 85 players on the watch list for the Maxwell Award given annually to the nation's top player.
Nall is the centerpiece of the Beavers' offense after compiling 951 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns last season. His combination of size and elusiveness has helped him total 1,729 all-purpose yards and 18 touchdowns in his career, and is on pace to break OSU's school record for yards per carry (currently 6.4).

I cut the cord - I bought a roku in 2015 and purchased sling tv and the sports package for 5 bucks extra. I get every PAC 12 channel with the sports package. It's a pretty good deal for a college football fan.
Good call Leonardfan. Yeah i dont even own a TV anymore. Why let a network dictate what we watch? God bless the internet!!!
