The USA is fast becoming a land of "dictatorship." The elite decide what is good for them, what must be followed by "ordinary" folks. To mock an iconic American image like Ronald McDonald is like mocking Christmas and Jesus Christ itself. Looks to me like these "people" never had any childhood.

Ronald McDonald: He's not going away</font>

CHICAGO â€" Retire Ronald McDonald? No way.

That's the message McDonald's Corp.'s CEO Jim Skinner gave yesterday to the red-haired clown's critics who say the cartoon promotes unhealthy eating and should go the way of the Marlboro Man and Joe Camel.

"The answer is no," Skinner told a room full of shareholders who gathered for a meeting at the company's headquarters in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, Ill.

"He is a force for good," Skinner said, adding that the nearly 50-year-old clown is an ambassador for the McDonald's brand and its Ronald McDonald House Charities. "He communicates effectively with children and families around balanced, active lifestyles. He does not hawk food."

Shareholders applauded Skinner. And they unleashed a chorus of boos when representatives from the advocacy group Corporate Accountability International requested the famous icon be shelved â€" for good.

"Ronald McDonald is a pied piper drawing youngsters all over the world to food that is high in fat, sodium and calories," said Alfred David Klinger (moron), a retired Chicago physician who volunteers with the organization. "On the surface, Ronald is there to give children enjoyment in all sorts of way with toys, games and food. But Ronald McDonald is dangerous, sending insidious messages to young people."

The Boston organization, which calls itself a nonprofit corporate watchdog, has spent the past two months mounting a "Retire Ronald" campaign.

So far it has received support from about 10,000 (moronic) people, said senior organizer Deborah Lapidus.

You put Ronald McDonald on the same level with our Lord?

I hope he was being sarcastic. Jesus is the lord and savior of all mankind. Now that I'm an adult, I'd say Ronald McDonald is an ugly clown and I'm surprised I was ever intrigued by him.

Maybe he meant that these "people" who dress up like Ronald McDonald are angry like Michael Jackson from their lost childhood and are outraged that Ronald McDonald is being lambasted lol. Hopefully, they won't dress up as Ronald McDonald and open a Neverland Ronald McDonald House ranch. I wouldn't trust my kids to go see Ronald at this theme park. I recall "lost childhood" was why Michael Jackson said he liked to have sleepovers with young boys. Anyway I thought I'd make light of Ronald McDonald...go back to your farm- eiyyiah, eiyyiah ohhh!

Anyway, the only good thing about McDonalds is Ronald McDonald House Charity where my mother and brother stayed when he was getting behavioral intervention at a hospital away from home for Autism- that is a good charity that takes in the parents of sick kids.

The food is filled with preservatives and the beef is probably grade D or E beef made from older cows and their less desirable parts. Have to admit though that I sometimes grab McDonalds when I'm really in a rush.

A man of Celtic descent, wearing white-face and dressed like a clown?
I find that horribly racist and offensive.
I'm contacting the ACLU immediately.

For sure, Ronald McDonald shouldn't be compared to Jesus, but I doubt j41181 meant any harm by it. Hopefully he'll clear it up for us. This kind of reminds me of a time when I heard Muhammad being compared to Joseph Smith. Boy the Mormons didn't like that at all.

I think their breakfasts are pretty good, but stay away from thesyrup, pancakes, and butter,

scrambled eggs and sausage with juice and coffee--pretty good.

yogurt parfait's not bad. coffee is better than what it is was before--newman's own coffee is decent as is the iced coffee w/ atouch of caramel and mocha,

salads are getting better.

stay away from the fries. try eating the burger or chicken w/o the bread.--might be Ok,

filet o' fish for lent--Ok

there's something weird about ronald mcdonald the character--but, I agree with TJR thatthe ronald mcdonald house is good institution. does good work.

maybe we could phase out the character as an ongoing symbol of the restaurant mcdonalds, but still retain him as a symbol of the Rmcdonald hourse.

actually the filet o fish is pretty lousy fish--but it's a good penance for lent.

has anyone here ever had an authentic english fish and chips? with the large fresh fish, and the well-spiced fried batter, the crispy bits, and the large cut potato chips (french fries), maybe with vinegar and british HP sauce--its a real treat. the english don't use ketchup on their chips (french fries), but it's ok for yanks to use it--but sparingly.

after tasting it, i will never make fun of english foods again, well some foods anyway!

If it will please everyone, I was NOT COMPARING, was more like EXEMPLIFYING. I'll admit though I did not do a good job. Comparing a 50 year old legacy is nothing compared to a 2,000 year old legacy. Another mistake I'll admit is the religious aspect, which does NOT apply to a figure like Ronald McDonald.

I guess what I should point out is the role model aspect, and Ronald McDonald, despite his silly look is a good role model for the youth. I fail to see the negative picture laid out by those who want to retire him. Anyway, I appreciate both the serious and humorous reaction to this somewhat unimportant issue!

I have nothing against Ronald McDonald at all, and if a company wishes to use a whitefaced clown as it's spokesman/mascot, more power to them. What galls me is the nerve of these leftist "advocacy" groups to tell us all what's good or bad for us, that we're all too STOOOOPID to think for ourselves. Gotta get rid of Ronald because he's an effective representative for and EVIL fast food place which is a CAPITALIST enterprise that is raping and pillaging the environment and destroying the rain forests in South America! It's nothing more than political correctness/censorship of capitalism in general.

And did you hear about the Mormon reaction to the Colorado cartoon about Joseph Smith? They started plotting suicide bombings in Colorado near the Coors Brewery (beer is evil) and planning to go even further- with an outright ban on white non Mormon "Infidels" from the BYU football team in favor of a Polynesian-Mormon ONLY policy (because those type of fans of Joseph Smith aren't tight hipped). Their next plot is to take over Israel and convert them to the Mormon brotherhood, ("the Umma") and dress their women like Amish girls with veils and ban television..

I am glad for the Ronald Houses and what they do for kids like ToughJ's brother.

As for the Ronald image... I enjoyed him as a kid like most any kid.* However, in middle age I've concluded that Bozo has a better looking costume, wig, and makeup scheme than Ronnie, I'm afraid.

*The only time I saw a Ronald McDonald in person (other than as plastic statues at various McD's) was at a Phila. Eagles preseason game around 1974. It may have been part of a promotion for the first Ronald House. Can't say I "met" Ronald. I saw him from way up in the top level of Veterans Stadium, called the 700 level (the yellow seats, before all the seats were replaced with blue seats in the '90s). And the Vet had no video screen at the time, so...
