Some people might think that the "stereotypes" (in reality it's anti-White propaganda) against White basketball players is stronger and more engrained than the stereotypes against Whites in other sports.

Well, when it comes to making the jump from high school athletics to college athletics, the White basketball player might get a better shake than his football counterparts, especially if he chooses a program worthy of his services. If 2 Whites start for a College basketball team, that is a higher % of White representation compared to many College football teams. Some college basketball coaches have "manned-up" and we need to give credit where credit is due. It's not all bleak. By bringing in "big stiffs" (code for White) these coaches face potential ridicule.

Last season was a great season for White college basketball and I believe we witnessed only a glimpse of the rising, athletic White forward. I think part of this rise is due to the fact that White athletes tend to stay on these college programs longer than the bruthas, and chemistry is so important in basketball.

I think we'll be seeing more Christian Laettner, Keith Van Horn and Troy Murphy-types in the College game very shortly. Absolute monsters that will give their all, and then some, to the College game. Their contributions will add greatly to the mystique of College basketball. The NBA may not want most of these fine young men, but they'll probably be able to play in Europe if they so choose. This thread isn't about the NBA.

A toast to the greatness on the horizon!

This is not my "evidence" that White forwards are on the rise, but it's a positive sign.

2010 Forwards that have verbaled already:

Travis Carroll

Dakotah Euton

Meyers Leonard

This is a 2010 Louisiana high schooler that was offered by LSU:

I'm shocked, too! I'm not implying that LSU is his best option, but this is simply surprising.

Michael Leunen

I'm guessing that he is the brother of former Oregon Duck basketball player Maarty Leunen.Edited by: Deadlift

Yeah, he is is Kyle's brother. This is his bio below which was from the link that you provided:

"Younger brother of Duke's Kyle Singler. Teammate of star guard Micahel Harthun, who is headed to Washington State in 2008-09. Dad, Ed, was a quarterback at Oregon State and momn, Kris, played basketball at OSU."

Definitely! If you check out the '08 and '09 Power Forward and Center section (since several of these "Centers" will play PF in College), you'll see PLENTY of White athletes. Like you say, quite a few of them are underrated, but at least most of them are going to 1 of the 300+ NCAA D1 teams.

I think that more high-quality Forwards need to go the road of Matt Howard so they can make an instant splash.

Howard's Rivals Profile

Here's his statistical impact as a true freshman for Butler --

Look at all those BLOCKS and OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS! Not to mention his very high FG%! Averaging nearly 25 minutes per game had to have been priceless for his development. Matt chose a destination where he has definitely contributed and where he is ALLOWED to further develop.

Go to Settings, then Edit Profile, and make sure yes is clicked to enable the WYSIWYG Post Editor. When that's on yes you should be able to post live links. Any time you make a change to your profile, e.g. change your avatar, the Post Editor defaults to no,which isa board glitch. Also, it appears to be default set to no, so everyone who can't post links, that's what you need to change.Edited by: Don Wassall

In response to E.J. Singler, Washington State would be a very friendly team for him to go too

I don't think that the rise of the white recruit in college basketball coincidentally follows the recent success of Euros against the U.S. in international play.

the Wear twins, Travis and David have both committed to North Carolina, class of 2009.

'09 small forward/shooting guard Jon Hood has committed to Kentucky. he'll be the first white kid to get quality playing time there in several years.

Erik Murphy has committed to Florida for '09. he's a banger and finisher from the high post.

high-flying Reeves Nelson has committed to UCLA for '09. he should make an immediate impact.

also committed to UCLA for 2009 is another high flyer, Brendan Lane

Duke continues to sign talented big men who play facing the basket. Mason Plumlee, class of 2009, will join his brother Miles who is a freshman Blue Devil this fall. both players are very similar in style, and are compared to former Indiana hoop star-turned-Dukie, Josh McRoberts.

joining Plumlee in '09 is fellow face-the-basket big man, Ryan Kelly. Kelly and Plumlee are both rated as 5-star prospects by Scout.com.

Stephen Van Treese has committed to Louisville, though i don't know much about him.

in-state prospect Derek Elston has committed to be an Indiana Hoosier. is he going to be key in turning around IU's fortunes?

Derek Elston's dad, Doug, played at UNC.

Speaking of Indiana, more a 2/3 than a forward at 6-6, but there's a 2010 from Ft. Wayne, Russell Byrd, who is down to MSU and Kentucky.

If we're going all the way down to Lipscomb commitments, then remember '09 Holden Greiner, 6-8 from Traverse City, Mich. St. Francis.

I am really excited about Mike Bruesewitz the Wisconsin Badger recruit. He is listed at 6'7 215 pounds and one of things i read about him is that with hisbody he belongs in the Big Ten. He is a banger with some nice midrange touch. I also heard him being compared to former Badger star Joe Krabbenhoft, not sure if any ofyou are familiar with him?

I've seen him listed anywhere between 6-9 and 6-11, so I figure that he's under the 6-11 mark.

He sounds like an interesting player as he can hit the 3 ball.

I thought this thread was gone... I'm sure glad it isn't! This is a fun thread.

I may use this thread to follow our bigs during the 2009/2010 college season. Go Harangody! Go Aldrich! I hope Miles Plumlee gets a lot of minutes with Duke.

Great thread you have here, Deadlift!

There are indeed many white forwards emerging out of the woodworks, it's a shame most of these guys will not make the NBA jump. But considering, this is not about the NBA, I would be happy if many of these fellows carve a successful career in Europe, which has the best basketball outside the USA.

Anyway, I'll be looking forward to any of the standouts to emerge from these reasonably large batch of white forwards. CHEERS!!!!

Colin Voss, 6-7 from East Grand Rapids, to Central Michigan. Had multiple D1 offers both as a power forward and tight end. Could see Voss in the NCAAs in as few as two years if the son of CMU's coach, Trey Zeigler, ends up a Chippewa. CMU is also a leader for the best player in Michigan for 2011, Dwaun Anderson. Overall, a white-friendly recruiting approach.

Josh Duinker (Soph.) - Richmond Spiders

http://www.richmondspiders.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/duinker_josh00.html

A promising big that can pass and hit the 3, but even at a smaller program like Richmond, he'll have to deal with ball-hogging teammates. That being said, if he gets the minutes, you can expect some good things.

Luka Mirkovic (Soph.) - Northwestern Wildcats

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/ncaa/men/players/82001

He really came on strong late last season. As you can see, he can do a multitude of things on the court (pass, shoot, rebound, block shots) -- and those things should only IMPROVE.

Kyryl Natyazhko (Freshman) - Arizona Wildcats

http://www.arizonawildcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/natyazhko_kyryl00.html

I'm not saying that he's going to be a stud right off the bat, but he is unlikely to be redshirted in my estimation. His cousin is Kyrylo Fesenko of the Utah Jazz!

I will continue to incorporate some of the younger players into this thread pretty soon! Of course, even though UNC is/has been stocking-up on bigs, Tyler Zeller is likely to get an opportunity but HE HAS to play WELL.
