yeah but Owen Schmitt doesn't have Brian Leoanrd flash about him so it will be easier for the system to peg him down as true fullback, hence his chances of running in the NFL are very slim, while BL actually has a (albeit small) fighting chance to be more than an extra lineman.

i agree that Owen is pretty close to Alstott's type however remember that Mike was a very acomplished college RUNNINGBACK for Purdue.

PS Mangini doesn't strike me as someone very white friendly to be honest.
and i agree that NFL needs more open minded coaches, but is there any to be had??Edited by: backrow

I think Owen Schmitt is a lot closer to what Alstott has become now in the NFL (a beast). Leonard isn't as powerful as those two. I'm sure in college Alstott was a lot lighter and more nimble.
I say Mangini and the jets for a few reasons, one: obviously Curtis Martin is through so they are potentially in need of a more powerful back to compliment Washington, plus he's got the hometown hero factor working in his favor. Secondly, I'm looking at the changes that took place when Mangini came to town. He took Tim Dwight and LB Matt Chatham with him from New England, as well as a number of other white castoffs from around the league, including: Brad Kassell, TE's Sean Ryan and Zach Hilton, and Kimo von Oelhoffen (whatever his ethnicity is). Also, let's not forget how he "reached" for "overachievers" Eric Smith and Anthony Schlegel in the 3rd round. I'm thinking they didn't spend 3rd round picks on guys who they want to play special teams forever but lord knows it's happened before. Also, I know it was only training camp but he did invite Brown University's Nick Hartigan for what it's worth.

I agree completley Jared
in your annalysis of Leonard. He is
definitley faster 4.47 40 coming out of highschool, and a
fair bit quicker / more agile than Alstott.
However he's far from as powerful, Alstott in
my opinion is also better at showing patience to follow blocks/ find
the hole...

I think the Jets would be a
good fit, but Cleveland could be as well because of their lack of a
stud HB and Crennel seems like a reasonable guy who came from "white
friendly" NE and wouldn't be accused of racism/ slammed by the media
for starting a white RB b/c he's black. Maybe Atlanta "Dunn and
Leonard", Denver, Pitsburgh or Tennessee as well . I would say
Jacksonville b/c of relativley old and "Fragile Fred" but I think Del
Rio is one of the most white unfriendly coaches... We better hope that
Leonard goes to a team without an all-round "workhorse" HB or he will
surely fall victim to the caste system ie. Heath Evans getting no
carries to spell Corey Dillon in "white friendly" NE. I think the
best case scenario for Leonard early on would be only sharing carries
in a FB/ HB offense. But if he impresses, we might actually see him as
a featured runner, which would be awesome!

And you mentioned Tim Dwight, as far as I'm
concerned the guy should be a HB and he would probabley be a good one.
Every time I see the guy on a punt return or a reverse/ end-around he
shows that elusiveness, speed and instincts that coaches love..but
apparently they only love those skills if you're black.

I was also wondering who was the last caucasian to be a sole featured
runner in the NFL?... Tom Rathman? Craig James? Roger Craig? Is
Roger Craig white? I could be wrong on that one.

The last white tailback that was the starter out of training camp was Merrill Hodge way back in 88'. Roger Craig is black (probably black-indian).

A "sole featured runner"? Geez, I'd say Riggins I think, I'm not that old though. Roger Craig was black though, Tom Rathman was his fullback but he did get some carries. He ended up with 544 carries for 2020 yds, 3.7 avg, and 27 TD in his career. Worthless tidbit: incidentally, in Tecmo Super Bowl, Tom Rathman in "excellent" condition could run over virtually every player on the New England defense without having to even tap buttons.

Actually I had a brain cramp it was Tommy Vardell for the Browns in the early 90's. They tried to make him their feature back for about 2 years, then gave up on him and he became a short yardage blaster.

I just get a feeling that Brian Leonard may end up on the Broncos. I think he would be a really good fit for that scheme, make one cut hit the hole and run as hard as you can. I honestly think he could put up some pretty big numbers in Denver. I think he could do that pretty much anywhere but I do get into the draft and projections and think it would be a good fit. They needa strong, tough powerful runner like a Terrell Davis and Leonard could be that guy. Forgive me if I am speaking out of my a**...lol.

That would be nice to see, but if he did do well, the critics would say it proves you can plug anyone in the Denver backfield and get good production.

The Terrell Davis comparison
may be accurate. The thing I've noticed
about Leonard is that just like Davis he is a good RB
in all categories...Speed, quickness,
agility, power, leaping, pass catching , vision but
is not elite in any particular area except maybe his
leaping . I could definitley see him as a
cutback power runner following blocks in Denver maybe he could
even average 5 a carry! The thing that I've always noticed is that there are
alot of black running backs that are considered
alltime greats that I think you could find a
white guy to compare them to who are better athletes. For
instance Shawn Alexander, Emmitt Smith or
Terrell Davis for instance maybe even
Walter Payton. They were/are either in good systems with great
blocking had great vision, or were very powerful , the later of which is a skill that whites often have
an advantage at.I don't think there is a
white Barry Sanders, Bo Jackson or Tomlinson (yet). However, other than them there
are white guys with comparable
athleticism to every other HB I can think of. Anyone who tries to say
that Rudi Johnson, Shaun Alexander, Duece McCalister, Edgerin James, Cedric Benson, Cadillac or probabley even Tiki
Barber are better all round athletes than Luke Staley or Jervey for
instance are just flat out wrong! Another comparison I would make is
comparing Kyle Bell to Brandon Jacobs of the Giants. Jacobs is a beast
and has been outplaying Barber this year in limited opportunities!

the buccs have Cadillac, he will be ignored like he was with ray rice.. The broncos doesn't have a great number one. With the broncos, he have a chance to be THE starter. Jay Cutler and Brian Leonard wow i'll be a fan of Broncos!

well, i am thinking of Thunder and Lightning combo. I doubt any team will let him be more than a second RB, if that...

It would be pointless for Leonard to go to the Jets, because they are not exactly a "White friendly" team. Chrebet was treated like a three-legged dog throughout the entire duration of his career there. Its like people always accused him of living in Keyshawn Johnson's shadow. Also, the fans in this state (Jersey) are MORONS. They have zero concept of the caste system and zero tolerance for White runners. Whenever I attend Jets games, I am always amazed at the amount of clueless, White idiots there are in one place. All that comes to mind is that quote from Rick Moranis (when he played Lord Helmet) in the movie 'Spaceballs'..."I can't believe it, I'm surrounded by assh0les!".

If Leonard wants opportunity rather than bench duty, he's better off going to Denver or possibly working out a deal with New England. The Patriots are the most White friendly team the NFL has seen in over ten years. I mean, Heath Evans WAS given carries there. I know it was only because all the "affletes" were injured, but he still performed well, and everybody witnessed it. Also, if he wants playing time, he better learn to open his mouth, and demand playing time. I've seen him in local interviews, and he seems a bit too much like a coaches "gopher". My advice for him is to do what the "brothas" do...

...play on a team where most of the people look like YOU, and bitch 'til no end until you get what you want.

Well the Patriots are using Corey Dillon who will probably retire fairly soon as a combo with Maroney, so maybe they will insert Leonard into Dillon's role. If he outperforms Maroney, I think Belichik is one of the few coaches who might actually have the guts to make Leonard a featured runner and have Maroney as a change of pace guy! I doubt even he would have the guts to completly bench Maroney though.

Agree on that point, speaking of idiots in Jersey my Dads side of the family is from there, and one of my cousins who knows alot about sports that I have been chatting with a lot latley about sports, told me none of his friends seem to know anything about how white's are dominating boxing's heavy weight classes and performing well in track, basketball etc. He thinks Jersey is one of the biggest black power States when it comes to sports! Guys sorry to inform you but Leonard is white. So unless he runs under a 4.5 40 at the combine he'll never run the ball in the NFL. That unfortunatly is just how the system works.Edited by: whiteCB

Hey I honestly hope that I'm wrong. Though I have not seen or read any reports on Leonard running a sub 4.5 40.

if he runs a sub 4.5 40, i would like to think that he will get a look at RB somewhere, not even the system will keep him down (kind of like Matt Jones was too good and athletic to hold down)
