Rudy Gay has been called the greatest athletic specimen ever to roam the earth--qoute Dick Vitale and others-- at least three thousand times last season!!! So Gay should mop up the floor in the speed drills right? He has two things going for him. A nice 40 inch vertical and a tremendous wing span of 7'3" which is like a condor. Let's measure Gay the god compared with the white stiffs. The events are vertical, lane agility and 3/4 court sprint.
Gay--40 V,11.03 lane agility and 3.32 sprint
Reddick --33V,10.94 lane, 3.29 sprint.
Morrison--30.5V, 11.16 and 3.37
Louis Amundson 35.5V,10.58 and 3.3 sprint
Nik Caner-Medley-35.5 V,10.57 and 3.21 sprint.
Worth pointing out Reddick has one of the shortest wing spans they have ever seen--which makes it even more remarkable in what he has achieved. Do the math if he has no reach and length he must be moving his feet pretty good to get open shots and avoid getting them stuffed down his own throat. And he beat Gay in the sprints so uhh translated into the real world the cat is faster than Gay the god.
The longest reach players were all black. And most of the shortest reaches were white like Mac from Syracuse.
But back to Gay the god. Well what happened. He was beaten in the sprints.And Caner -Medley was always discussed as being slowish. I mean give me a friggen break. Which is why basketball analysis on TV and elsewhere is slanted by the old "blacks are athletic gods and whites are castrated try a lots" standard. Gay the god my ass. Guy is just lucky he was born with long legs and a long reach. I would love to shove these figures up Dick Vitale's nose.
