Just saw on fightnews.com that the IBF heavyweight eliminator fight between Povetkin and Chambers will take place on Jan. 26 in Berlin. Whats important about this is that if Povetkin wins we have an IBF champion waiting in the wings if something happens with Klitscko (such as him getting stripped of the title if he wants to fight someone else, which may become an issue if he wins Ibragimovs belt as well in February).

It's going to be televised on HBO's "Boxing After Dark".

I've seen Chambers on ESPN, and he has some slick moves, good handspeed and sharp reflexes. It won't be an easy fight for Povetkin, but I believe he will prevail, winning by late KO or TKO.

According to fightnews,Povetkin arrived today in Berlin from Russia, and he says he's in great shape. This will be the first non-Klitschko HBO fight ever broadcast from Germany.

This could be one of the most entertaining heavyweight fights since Brewster vs. Lyakhovich, I reckon. Povetkin always comes forward and has a very high work rate, and they both have speed more typical of middleweights.

Another good fight to look forward to. This one I will definetly be watching. The Klitschko Ibragimov fight I will not. I just hate the fact that one of ours will lose.

I understand what you mean. I don't like the idea of Sultan being hurt and going down - I'd sooner see Wlad fight nothing but blacks (Thompson, Briggs, Peter, etc.). Sultan has the heart of a lion and deserves the best - I just hope he recovers after the fight, and continues on as a heavyweight contender. A draw would be the best outcome, and a SD or MD would be better than a humiliating KO.

But I would enjoy seeing Povetkin KO Chambers, or at least win a wide decision and raise his hand in the air when it's over!

I think it's better that we have one undisputed dominant white champ rather than 4 average ones. It would be harder for the media to cover that up. I'll be rooting for Wlad to win by decisive KO over Sultan and then the other two remaining belt holders whether they be white or black.

Calling Buddy Mcgirt into your camp to be a second trainer might have sealed the deal for 2004 gold medalist. Lately Buddy has been a big 0 fer in big bouts...

You are right about Buddy McGirt. This guy his never trained a fighter to win a big fight. His list o' losers is a mile long: Ettiene v. Tyson, Gatti v. Mayweather, Tarver v. Hopkins, Brewster v. Wlad II ... etc. These are just a few that pop to mind. Whenever I see McGirt training someone I know he'll soon be bounding through the ropes to attend to his unconscious fighter. He is one of the worst trainers in boxing yet is proclaimed as a great trainer. Wonder why?

Years ago Ray Arcel was the same thing for Joe Louis opponents. He later redeemed himself with Duran and others. Also I noticed at Fightnews they have a photo of Team Chambers and Chambers' dad looks like Reverend Al without the Dandy hair.....

Another reason to root for Poetvikin......

This is a very important fight. If Chambers wins it will reinforce the false ideas about black athletic superiority.

Go Sasha!

JD1986:

Based on the size difference and fighting styles of these two I can't how Chambers has much of a chance. Chambers may win some early rounds but Sascha's amateur experience with pitty-patters will help him catch up with him. But Chambers does not "stick and move", in fact, he does not move enough to stay away from Povetkin.

I used to think of Povetkin as a small heavyweight. But from the photos I have seen of him next to Chambers he looks 3-4 inches taller and 50lbs heavier. Boxrec has Chambers at 6,1" and Povetkin at 6,2". Something has to be wrong there and I think it is Boxrec's numbers on Chambers.

This one has me a bit nervous. Chambers has little power, however let's be honest. The dude throws lightning quick combinations. I think Povetkin will eventually wear Chambers down due to being Physically stronger. But make no mistake, I have seen Chambers fight several times as most of you gentlemen probably have and I believe that Chambers is the most skilled Afro-American fighter in the heavyweight division today. That being said, let's go Alexandeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Aussie:

I regard this as a safe fight for Povetkin. Chambers doesn't move enough to stay away from him and he's too small to hurt him either. Povetkin wins a UD or a knockout, either way he wins.

I've seen Chambers fight a few times, and he's better than a lot of people think - fast hands, difficult to hit because of good reflexes and quick head movement, and excellent fundamental boxing skills. He put a one-sided beatdown on the much bigger Derek Rossy, and won a wide decision over Dominick Guinn. Let's not forget, he's 30-0.

This will be a good fight - with Povetkin winning a decision or a late TKO.

Last Post before the fight:

This fight takes place in Germany between two undefeated fighters: Alexander Povetkin (14-0) and Eddie Chambers (30-0). Looking at their records one might think there is a great disparity between the two as Chambers has fought more than twice as many professional fights. Looks are deceiving. A closer look at their respective careers to this point shows that each fighter shares a win over Ed Mahone and each have two significant wins against familiar names in the heavyweight division: Chambers has beaten Dominick Gwinn and Calvin Brock while Povetkin has beaten Chris Byrd and Larry Donald. Sounds like a close match-up? Maybe.

Chambers is a small heavyweight, he is about the size Joe Frazier was. Boxrec has him listed at 6,1" and Povetkin at 6,2" but standing next to each other Povetkin looks 3-4 inches taller. Chambers has good hand speed and has pesky punches but he doesn't have any real power that drops a man with one punch; he doesn't move enough either, prefering a more stationary defense. He is in big trouble. Povetkin isn't looking to fight a defensive fight. That's one of the reasons why he has a large following worldwide. Povetkin is going to go after Chambers and use his superior strength to outmuscle him; he is going to slip and duck to get close to him; he is going to use a variety of combinations backed with solid power to buckle him. Povetkin may not knock him out but he will break him and at least win a decision.

After this fight Povetkin is going to need all the help he can get -maybe even from Joeseph Stalin- as he is scheduled to face either Ibragimov or Klitshcko (and that means Klitschko). Chambers, a good little heavyweight, may go back to being an ESPN star or possibly drop down to cruiserweight and take on fighters closer to his weight like Maccarelli or Haye. Either way good luck to Chambers as he is just too small to take on the bigger and stronger men. And good luck to Povetkin as he may be the heir apparent after Klitschko retires and tires of always winning.

By the way, anyone know where the fight may be broadcasted on the net?

Sopcast might have it live in German. They also might have the HBO replay in English. you also might be able to download it the next day off torrents or a pirate boxing site.

I have not seen Povekin fight, looking forward to watching him fight. Chambers is a fundamentally sound fighter but lacks true heavywieght punching power. This fight should be interesting. As always rooting for the 'white boy' as Hopkins would say.
