Trent Dilfer said, "He had 2 TD's but threw 2 picks. People don't want to see that."

He has 21 TD's -- with an unimpressive receiving corps and a less effective LT in the backfield -- and only 8 interceptions. He's on pace for 4,000 yards.

Paint him black, and he would have already been declared "MVP"..

I like Rivers' but I don't like the Chargers. He has to be an MVP candidate because a bunch of teams probably wish he was on their team right now.

With LT's turf toe, Jacob Hester should be getting 5-9 carries a game to change things up and see what they got in their draft pick. But the Chargers are part of the anti-white NFL so it won't happen! [IMG]

Just as with the Rams and Brian Leonard, why the hell take arunning backin the second round if you're not going to use him? Sproles has talent but he's a mite, he's never going to be anything but a change of pace, third down type of back. Tomlinson has slowed down noticeably this season. If Hester was black everyone would see taking him in the second round as being a clear signal that he was to be Tomlinson's successor. But it appears highly unlikely that Hester will ever get that chance.

Years ago, I heard an NFL personnel director on a radio show talking about drafting players. He said that a 1st round choice is expected to start for you in his rookie year. A 2nd round choice is a player who is projected to have the talent to start if you need him.

Rivers' is about to top 10,000 passing yards for his career.

Since he rode-the-pine for a couple of years, he probably won't become a Hall of Famer.

He's only 26, about to turn 27 in a few days. Waiting two seasons to start won't keep him out if he's good enough.

Considering the horrific job they've done in the voting for Major League Baseball all-star games over the years, it's probably no surprise that the fans continue to select the wrong players for the Pro Bowl. That being said, it's an unbelievable injustice that Philip Rivers was left off the AFC Pro Bowl roster this year.

How can you possibly not select the NFL's top rated passer, as well as the leader in TD passes? I've heard jock-sniffers like "Greenie" from the Mike & Mike show, claiming that "you can't go by statistics," and that Rivers is not deserving. Sorry, Greenie, but statistics provide a reasonable barometer for things like all-star selection. How else would you distinguish performance? Howard Cosell originated the "ignore the numbers" nonsense a long time ago, to explain his infatuation with all New York players like Joe Namath or Reggie Jackson, or dismiss those he didn't wish to promote. It appears as if most sports "journalists" prefer to look past the statistics when it serves their purposes as well. Edited by: bigunreal

That is pretty interesting. Looking at the stats, Rivers has a seasonal QB rating of 101.4, tops in the AFC over all. That's outstanding. He is No. 1 in TD's, 3rd overall in yardage, and 9th in fewest INT thrown.

Favre, who was selected as a reserve ahead of Rivers, is ranked 7th in QB rating, 7th in yards, 4th in TDs, and 1st (worst) in number of INT's thrown! In other words, he outperforms Rivers in no category but still makes the Pro Bowl over Rivers?? Cutler is at least more comparable to Rivers than Favre..

I just checked the numbers on Rivers. Absolutely great. Goodness gracious, how did he not make the Pro-bowl?I know that his team is not very good, but that makes his numbers even more impressive. Just this one stat alone.

    P. Rivers 32 TD's vs.11 INT's.

    B. Favre21 TD's vs.19 INT's.

-->The player with the great stats and #1 QB rating in the league still gets little respect. He's often called "erratic" and "frenetic." After playing in the AFC championship game last year with a blown out knee (in notable contrast to LaDainian Tomlinson who pulled himself out of the game), and then to follow it up with what he's done in '08, a black QB would be a certifiable legend but Rivers remains one of the most disliked players in the league. The media and DWFs are very reluctant to point the finger where it belongs when it comes to the problems with the Chargers offense -- the decline of LT. <!--

    Amen.

They could be handing the ball off to Hester, or even Sproles, but LT is as entrenched in his spot as any black QB might be in a similar situation.

They should have hung on to Michael Turner if they weren't going to use their best draft pick to run the ball. Edited by: White Shogun

During the Chargers game yesterday, amid their somewhat muted (as always) praise for Rivers, the announcers revealed that he was not among the top FIVE AFC QBs in Pro Bowl balloting by the fans. They rightfully expressed disbelief at this.

That's the kind of mentality we have to overcome in dealing with the drunk white fans. Curiously, I haven't heard Rivers mentioned as a potential MVP candidate. Why not? If the Chargers beat the Broncos next week and make the playoffs, I think he would have my vote. Edited by: bigunreal

Do you guys realize that 4 weeks ago the Chargers were 4-8? They were down 3 games with 4 to play. Now they play Denver in SD for a playoff spot. This is surreal.

I'd love to see an AFC Championship game between Cassel and Rivers. May the best man win.

    This fantasy blurb was positive:

He should reach 4,000 passing yards this season, but the win is more important.

He has 16 TD passes in just over half a season and an excellent97.9 rating, but yes he is one of the top QBs in a league with a number of great (White) quarterbacks. With Tomlinson on the decline and the defense mostly ineffective, he has carried the team the past two seasons. Hopefully the Chargers will beat Eminem's squad this Sunday in Denver.

    100 passing TDs for Philip!

They play the Bungles next, and I really hope San Diego crushes them.

Going into the bye week, Rivers' has had back-to-back wins over AHDIW and the Houston Texans (their first road win).

After 9 games, he has 2,944 passing yards and 19 TD passes. If they beat their next opponent, that being the Denver Broncos, they will have a 5-5 record and be very alive in their Division.

Rivers is agreat quarterback. He's now throwing to a completely different group of receivers than he started the season with due to injuries, plus being without Vincent Jackson, and has rolled up big passing numbers week after week. He's going to be one of the all-time greats before he's done.

I predict Rivers will return to greatness this season. He's still young for a quarterback and the only reason he was off the past two seasons was because of the atrocious Norv Turner/A. J. Smith regime, that should have been fired years ago but somehow hung on. . . and on. Maybe the Spanos family has a hard time firing employees. At least "Norv" will no longer be the head coach of any more NFL teams, or so we can hope.

The Chargers have traditionally been a mostly White o-line team, and when Turner ditched that in 2011, the Chargers sunk like a rock in a pond. Rivers has been like Ben Roethlisberger, constantly harassed and ploughed to the turf, but without Ben's elite ability to elude and shrug off would-be tacklers.

San Diego's offense supposedly will be noticeably built more on short and medium passes this season according to the media pr, as Rivers is a very accurate downfield passer but has been stymied by his pitiful o-line the past few seasons. And the perennially heralded Ryan Matthews is a terrible pass protector and poor receiver out of the backfield.

All of this portends obvious hopes that Rivers and Woodhead might have big seasons. But the league's ironclad Caste System so consistently disappoints those who want to see White talent be given the same opportunity as blacks and rewarded when deserving, that one must be 95%+ prepared for disappointment, year after year, decade after decade; hopefully this season will be one of the five percent and will work in favor of Rivers and Woodhead.

Even though the team has had some disappointing losses, particularly due to lackluster offensive performances in those games (and they need a better running game), the Chargers' patchwork defense has continued to overachieve all year long. This fight and perseverance that the team has, has spurred them to brilliance in Kansas City (a 41-38 Classic) and again this past Sunday against the Giants.

The Chargers' offense should have done better than 10 points when they recently hosted Cincinnati, but that's the thing with this team.. they are able to bounce back. As of now, they are still showcasing a belief in Philip Rivers' and the coaching staff. They need more talent on both sides of the ball.

Not to take anything away from rivers because hes one of my favorites, but the job whisenhunt has done as OC is amazing. . Cant believe this guy was not hired as a head coach in the offseason. I expect him to get some offers. Houston is interested so hopefully if he gets hired he will see the potential in keenum with his big play ability on deep balls and not fall victim to the quotaback illusion in sewerwater.

Rivers is voted to his fifth pro bowl.. Currently leading the league in completion % (just under 70 %).

The article in the San Diego Union-Tribune, also pointed out that there wasn't a single Bolt in last year's Pro Bowl (they have a couple other players goin' w/Rivers this time), good news for their franchise..
