I guess we'll start the season off with a BANG! The world's number 1199th ranked player is grabbing most of the headlines at the Hero World Challenge! You guessed it, Tiger Woods is all anyone is talking about despite a stellar field that includes Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, and Justin Thomas. Although Charlie Hoffman is leading Spieth by 3 strokes in a field that also includes Justin Rose and Hideki Matsuyama, Woods is getting most of the attention with rounds of 69 and 68, grabbing 4 of the 6 headlines on PGA Tour website.
No one get too excited. Although not an official PGA Tour event, The Hero World Challenge is annually hosted by Tiger Woods and includes a small number of tour players, 18 this year and benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation.
    The leaders include:
    Charlie Hoffman, -12
    Jordan Spieth, -9
    Tommy Fleetwood, -9
    Justin Rose, -8
Woods is in a tie for 5th at -7
It should be an interesting watch this weekend with Spieth and Rose in the mix, and of course we'll see how Woods holds up in rounds 3 and 4!

TW comes back to reality today shooting a +3, 75 in difficult conditions. He drops to a T-10 out of 18 PGA players. Despite this reality check, Woods still garnered most of the headlines. Judging by the look on his face, he didn't look near as cordial and happy today.
Charlie Hoffman remains in the lead:
    1. Hoffman, -14
    T-2 Rose, -9
    T-2 Spieth, -9
    T-10 Woods, -4

Tiger inspires nostalgia and pity now instead of fear and intimidation. Hopefully he's becoming a better man as a result of his tribulations of the past eight years.

The first tournament of 2018 begins tomorrow in Hawaii. The Sentry Tournament of Champions consists of last years tour winners. Looking forward to another great season on the PGA Tour! Should be exciting.
BTW, Jordan Spieth is officially engaged to long time girlfriend Annie Verret.

After day two of The Sentry Tournament of Champions, Dustin Johnson is tied for the lead at -9. Others at -9 are Mark Leishman and Brian Harman.
After shooting a 2 over 75, Jordan Spieth comes back and ties for best round of the day with a 66! Spieth was 30th and is now tied for 13th.

After the third round it looks as though Dustin Johnson is in control, shooting -7, 66. He is now the leader at -16.
    1. D. Johnson, -16
    2. B. Harman, -14. Not sure he has the fire power to stay with Johnson, but would be a great story if he could.
    3. J. Rahm, -12. If anyone can catch DJ, it would be Rahm, but I don't think he will.
T9, J. Spieth -8. Spieth shoots a -3, 70 today. Not bad, but too many missed opportunities and a horrible opening round 75!
However, I give Jordan lots of credit. He could have just rolled over and died, but has hung in there. Other top players have faded. Close to, or at the bottom of the leaderboard.
    30. Justin Thomas +2. 2017 PGA Tour POY and PGA Champion.
    34. Brooks Koepka +11! 2017 US Open Champion.

Spieth is probably the toughest mentally on the Tour. I predict he has another big year!
DJ, also looks in top form.

I've caught a few segments when I can, will try to catch more tomorrow. It's always an enjoyable first tournament of the calendar year, played in a beautiful setting in Hawaii with only tournament winners from last season playing.

Glad golf's about to swing into high gear, should be another terrific year in store.

DJ in total control at -22. His next closet competitor is John Rahm at -15. He is destroying this course, almost getting a hole in one on a par four. It makes you wonder why this guy doesn't have 7-8-9, or more Majors by now!

    DJ wins by 8 strokes!
    1. D. Johnson -24
    2. J. Rahm -16

Lots of talk about Tiger Woods. He'll debut at the Farmers Insurance Open, January 25-28.

Jon Rahm wins the CareerBuilder Challenge on the fourth playoff hole. The big Spaniard is now ranked #2 in the world and is only 23 years old.

Taking nothing away from Rahm. Congratulations. However, he was playing a weak field. I guess more reason not to take the World Rankings too seriously. Spieth a 3 time Major winner including the British Open and Pebble Beach, last year, drops behind Rahm.
Tiger Woods all over the PGA Tour Website as if he's number 1, will be in the field this week at The Farmers Insurance Open.

Red Hot John Rahm shoots a second round 66 to move into second place at The Farmers Insurance Open. Ryan Palmer holds the 36 hole lead. Still not quite a stellar field. It will be interesting when all the big boys are playing.
Tiger Woods makes the cut, barely, by birding the last hole. He's in a T-65.
    Ricki Fowler misses the cut.

The AT&T Pro-Am at Pebble Beach is underway. All the top players in the field, however no Tiger Woods. Forgot to mention that long hitting Gary Woodland was victorious last week at the Waste Management Open.

With the Genesis Open underway and most of the top players in the field, Graham McDowell is in the lead at -7 along with Patrick Cantlay, -7, and Sam Saunders who only completed 15 holes of the second round. Number 1 player in the world, Dustin Johnson is at +1, T-52.
Tiger Woods failed to make the cut and shot a +6 after bogeying 4 of the last 8 holes.

The rapid fall from grace of Woods, which obviously isn't going to change no matter how many life-size Tiger dolls the golfing reporters and analysts sleep with and pray to, should be presented as a cautionary tale about the health-damaging effects of long-term juicing as well as the price paid for gross immorality and arrogance, but for some reason never will be. In fact, wait a few years and it may all be blamed on racism, anything and anyone but Tiger.

Bubba Watson wins the Genesis Open. His 10th career victory. He stated a couple of years ago that he'd retire after his 10th victory, but....he's apparently changed his mind given all the perks he gets after a tour victory.

Justin Thomas wins the Honda Classic in a playoff. It's already his 8th career PGA Tour win, but far more impressively it's his 7th win in his last 31 starts! He also passed his good friend Jordan Spieth and is now the third ranked player in the world. The Masters is now only a little over a month away.

Under pressure Thomas hit a beautiful wedge shot on the 18th that nearly went in. After that his opponent got psyched out so it only took Justin Thomas one playoff hole to seal the victory. The guy is a legitimate STUD and is a superstar on the rise. Very athletic. Lean but can hit the ball a country mile. This will be one of the most anticipated Masters coming up in recent memory.

Phil Mickelson is back in the winner's circle!!! He beats Justin Thomas in a play-off and a loaded field at the WGC Mexico Championship! Phil and Thomas both played outstanding this week, especially Thomas on the weekend. Phil continues to defy Father Time, hitting the ball well and rolling in some big putts today! He's still got it! Great win for Phil!!

Fantastic final round today at the World Golf Championship event in Mexico with a world class field as there always is for WGC events. Phil Mickelson beats Justin Thomas on the first playoff hole to win his first PGA title since he won the British Open in 2013! It was his 43rd Tour win. Phil has been playing really well of late and it's great to see him end his drought and get back in the winner's circle.

Thomas came very close to winning for the 8th time in his last 32 events. From way back after two rounds he shot an incredible 62-64 over the weekend, and holed a shot from the fairway on 18 for an eagle that gave him a two shot lead at the time before Phil chipped away at it. Just a really great day of golf for fans to enjoy. The only downside is that this WGC event is the one that used to be held at the famed Doral "Blue Monster" course in Florida before it was taken away because Doral is owned by the Deplorable-in-Chief.

I agree. I didn't think there'd be much that would get me away from watching the conference championships in basketball today, but I found myself watching golf for most of the afternoon. I'm definitely happy for Phil finally getting that elusive win, especially with how well he's been playing the last few events. It was definitely a great tournament with a lot of great shots. I can't wait for Augusta next month.

I was watching the post-tournament coverage on Golf Channel, and Sean Foley (one of the analysts) predicted that Woods would win multiple times THIS year and may win a major or two as well. I guess finishing 8 shots back of Thomas in what was a fairly weak field last week is the basis for this "bold" prediction? I'm sure the Tiger worshippers in the media weren't too happy with Phil winning today. It's amazing how much better Phil has been long-term in his career than Woods has. Obviously Woods was better in the early going, but since Woods' incident in 2008, Phil has definitely been the better golfer of the two. And with Phil winning against a WGC-caliber field today at 5 years older than Tiger and playing some good golf as of late, plus the great young golfers like Thomas and Spieth playing well, I'm sure the media is desperate more than ever for Woods to play well.

Great win for Phil. Didn't get to watch today. Speaking of Jordan Spieth, some are saying he is not quite on his game yet. I just found out that he had Mononucleosis in December. I'm amazed he's had a couple of top tens. Did anyone else here about that? Mono can put you down for months. I'm looking forward to the Masters as well, next month.

ESPNs resident jewish golf analyst and fanboy Jason Sobel and Darren Rovell are absolute giddy as schoolgirls on Twitter as Tiger Woods is tied for the lead through 30 holes

You’d think theyre calling Jacks final round of the 86 masters by the tones of their tweets

    Downright embarrassing

As of my post, Eldrick is now in the lead at -5 at the Valspar Championship. I don't see any marquee names on the leader board besides Woods, but you gotta give him some credit. The coverage is embarrassing, but this is what those media types live for.

Wow, but you know, if he keeps this up Thrashen will have to dust off his Tiger Woods poster and put it back up in his garage!
