Hillis hasn't practiced all week but is listed as questionable for this week's game. Usually guys that don't practice are listed as doubtful or ruled out for the game. Hopefully he can get healthy by then and put up some numbers.

If by extremely high they mean a reported 3 years at $4.5 million per year then yeah, Hillis contract demands are extremely high. Even though he is asking for considerably less than the affletes like Chris Johnson and Adrian Peterson are making despite being arguably better than either.

Hillis is officially listed as "out" for today.....can this season get any worse for him....maybe there's something to the whole Madden curse thing afterall....

If that isn't bad enough, Hardesty is having a good game so far. If Hardesty pulls out 100 yards the DWF's will be calling him the next coming of Barry Sanders and Hillis will be even more screwed.

Hardesty 33 carries 95 yards ZERO tds. Only TWO rushing first downs. Thats a total of 6 first downs and zero touchdown on 73 carries with a 3.2 ypc. Some fans are trying to describe him as "grinding the clock out". Two first downs is not grinding the clock out. His longest rush for the season is 19 yards.
Hillis has 11 first downs with 2 tds on 60 carries, 3.5 ypc with a long of 24. Thats a first down or td on every 4.6 plays. Hardesty has a first down every 12.1 plays.

It's obvious that the Walrus and his chosen lackey are trying to audition a Warrick Dunn type to diminish the value of Hillis. Really they want to sign Hillis if he only able to demand generic starter money ie what the Bills pay Freddie Jackson. I don't think Hardesty is up to the task and the Walrus knows it too, but with scouting bias against White tailbacks he knows that if Hillis has statistically poor year his bargaining power in the free market will be minimal.

We don't even know what other teams think of Hillis. I bet most teams in the league consider him a fullback and not a running back. What team will sign a "fullback" to a big contract? Very few.

wow, just wow. I could understand if he were actually grinding out the clock out but he only rushed for 2 first downs. 33 carries and only 2 first downs, I think any back can get over 3 ypc on 1st and 10 or 2nd and long. Getting first downs and tds in goal line situations brings down ypc, not the way Hardesty was used. Im surprised the new guy isn't getting any hype, he averaged 5 ypc on 3 carries and caught 5 passes without any drops.

Good stuff from King. That Cleveland couldn't score a single touchdown at home without Hillis in the lineup is quite telling. But the entire offense is so poorly managed.
Marecic should be the full-time fullback for Hillis, and Evan Moore should be on the field every play. Greg Little has talent but is extremely "raw," while Massaquoi and Robiskie are terrible. But the play calling sucks, and the blacks on the o-line are terrible. Colt McCoy's stat line just about every week looks like that of most black QBs -- under 200 yards passing and maybe 1 TD.

Peyton Hillis is finally putting the focus on football— and only football.
After a drama-filled start to this season, Cleveland’s running back, whose contract situation, strep throat sickness that cost him to miss one game and a hamstring injury that sidelined him last week have blanketed the Browns for weeks, said after returning to practice on Wednesday that he’s not going to discuss his future with the team again this season.
“I would rather not talk about a contract the rest of the year,” Hillis said. “There’s no sense in it. It’s in the past and I want to move forward from here on out. I’ve got to play and that’s the bottom line.”
Hillis practiced for the first time since hurting his hamstring in the first half of Cleveland’s loss at Oakland on Oct. 16. The injury was the latest chapter in what has been a weekly soap opera surrounding the tough-nosed back, who rushed for nearly 1,200 yards last season and wound up on the cover of the Madden video game.
Wearing an orange Browns baseball cap, Hillis stood near the center of Cleveland’s locker room as he has all season and fielded questions. This time, however, there was no talk about his hopes to sign a long-term deal with the Browns. Last week, team president Mike Holmgren said the sides decided to put negotiations on hold and “let Peyton play, let the dust settle a little bit and see what happens.”
That’s fine with Hillis.
“We’ve got to move forward from this because you don’t need any distractions,” he said. “I’m not going to be a distraction. I’m going to help this team win as much as I possibly can and do what I can.”
Hillis was limited during practice as the Browns (3-3) began installing their gameplan for Sunday’s matchup with the San Francisco 49ers (5-1). Hillis, whose hamstring was heavily wrapped, didn’t appear to have any problems running or cutting during the portion of the workout open to media members.
In last week’s win over Seattle, Montario Hardesty(notes) replaced Hillis and rushed for 95 yards on 33 carries, the kind of workload Hillis would like to get. Browns coach Pat Shurmur made it clear that if Hillis is healthy and can play, he will start.
“He’s our starting halfback and if he’s able to go, he’ll be the starter,” Shurmur said.
Hillis said it was tough to stand in street clothes on the sideline last week and watch the Browns run the ball 44 times.
“It kills you every time you’re not out there,” he said. “But it was good to see the guys run the ball pretty well and get the offense back and the chemistry back.”
Hillis has been inactive twice this season—and the Browns are 2-0 without him.
He sat out Cleveland’s game on Sept. 25 against Miami with strep throat and flu-like symptoms, following the advice of his agent, Kennard McGuire. That decision led to suspicions Hillis didn’t play because of his contract, a charge he strongly denied. Then, he got hurt against the Raiders and the Browns’ complicated the situation by initially reporting Hillis wasn’t hurt and was being kept out by Shurmur.
It wasn’t Hillis’ intent to cause a distraction, but that’s what has happened—at least outside Cleveland’s locker room.
Linebacker Scott Fujitasaid the Hillis hubbub hasn’t bothered the Browns.
“It’s not talked about in here at all,” he said. “I hear about it a lot when I leave the building, there’s a buzz. But if we win a couple games, and he comes out and has a good game and gets healthy, it will put all that stuff to bed.”
Shurmur has faith Hillis, who has rushed for 211 yards on 60 carries, can put the drama behind him and still have a productive season.
“I’m very confident and we’re looking forward to him performing on Sunday and having a good game,” he said. “I’ve told this to players in the past that your next great performance is right on the horizon and we’re hoping for him it’s Sunday.”
Hillis, too, believes better days are ahead. He’s got 10 games left to show that last season was no fluke and prove to the Browns—or the rest of the league—he’s worthy of a big contract.
“There’s a lot of time,” he said. “That’s on me and getting healthy and producing. I put that on myself.”

Hillis is sitting out of practice again today (which ESPN gleefully reported just now).
IMO he shouldn't have practiced at all until he could go without wrapping his hamstring. This is just going to keep happening. Especially with all the reps he's taking in a 3pt at fullback.

The Hillis Conspiracy marches on. Yesterday, we were told by all the fantasy sites that he practiced with the first team and was almost certainly going to start this Sunday. Now, I just heard the NFL Network's Jason LaConfora say that he was almost certainly not going to play this Sunday. So...how does that work?
This entire Hillis situation has become a laughable fiasco. If they are not interfering with his chance to play, then Hillis is a complete wimp. Period. If what is being reported is legitimate, he missed a game because of strep throat two days after being diagnosed (and being given treatment for it). Now, he appears to be dragging his feet again in recovering from a very fishy hamstring injury. If the injury is real-and considering how Hillis was seen acting fine on the sidelines, no trainers in sight, no bike, and asked to go back in the game-that's a big if-then it was a very mild strain and he should have been completely recovered by now.
Hillis appears, at this juncture, to have very little desire to play football. If he really wants a big contract, he isn't acting like it. Look at how Matt Forte is performing- he's frustrated about his contract situation, too. That's what Hillis ought to be doing. I know he has a coach that hates him, a front office that thinks he's a fullback, and an awful offensive line and game plan, but he isn't doing anything to help himself. But that's assuming we are being given the real facts, which I clearly don't believe is the case.
Regardless how you look at it, the only white RB to get 1000 yards in 25 years is not going to repeat, and probably not going to be an every down RB for any team in the league next season. You can call it all just more "coincidence." I call it just another conspiracy.

I do think Peyton is injured. I believe that has been his main issue during his football career - durability. Hopefully he comes back healthy and finishes the season strong.
