Pavel is a 7'5" 260 pound rookie From Russia and he doesnt get to play at all. He is only 20 years old and it seems like the Dallas Mavericks have given up on this man without even giving him a chance. He hasent played a minute this season. He was drafted in the first round last year and he isnt even getting a chance to play. He is like Darko Milicic for the Pistons. It seems like they wont let these guys play at all. Darko is getting 7.1 minutes a game. Thats not enough to do anything with. Darko was taken with the #2 pick in the first round of the draft in 2003 and they wont give him a chance. Well if these 2 guys ever get a real chance to play I think these guys will be at least top 15 centers in the game. Maybe both top 5 in the game. We can always hope

Podkolzine has had a rough go at it. First he had
surgery on his pituitary gland. He withdrew from last
year's draft to develop his game a little more in
Europe. But that backfired since he hardly played on
his European team! He's still very young, so he has
plenty of time. I haven't seen him play, but given his
limited experience and youth, he's probably very raw.
Their starting center (who they overpaid for, of
course,) Eric Dampier, has been disappointing so
far, so that may open up a window of opportunity for
him sometime in the future.

Donnie Nelson is their President of Basketball
Operations, and he coached in Lithuania for seven
years, I believe, so he's knowledgeable of European
talent. He may see a lot of potential in Pavel. And
Don Nelson has nurtured Dirk's talent in a way that a
lot of other coaches probably wouldn't have
(although he looks to be in the last years of his
coaching career.) On the other hand, the team has
gotten considerably blacker over the last two
seasons. At any rate, let's hope the best for him.

Just did a Google search and he had a tumor
removed from his pituitary gland in November.
