If Peter beats Oleg look for shady ass N. Don King to scream for a rematch with Wlad with no real intention of fighting Him. This will likely spark off another feeding fenzy by the wiggers in Boxing forums that Wlad is ducking Peter when the opposite is true.

Seems like you're right about that. Peter's post-fight interview answers were mostly unintelligible, but King could be heard in the background saying "one at a time" as Kellerman kept asking Peter about fighting Wlad.

Oleg really showed his age in this one. Not to make excuses but it is a fact. He looked like a 39 year old fighter in their for sure. Peter on the other hand looked out of shape in his own right. The two losses today surprise me a little but not much.

Yep, both weren't at their best. If Peter comes against Wlad in the kind of shape he is in today, Wlad will strategically pick him apart like a piece of chicken.

I disagree aussie. I felt that Oleg had a couple of those rounds in the bag and had hit Peter with some hard shots. If anything this fight exposed Peter as much as it did Oleg Maskaev.

The announcers were talking about some lawsuit Maskaev has against the sanctioning body for this fight, and they admitted that it would be unlikely for Maskaev to win a decision. It was odd hearing them openly say that the judges just might not be impartial.

Vitali is supposed to be Peter's next opponent, but King and the rest were already making noise that Peter should fight Wladimir. Expect some legal action to prevent Vitali from getting a shot at Peter first. I think they're worried that Vitali will KO Peter in a non-unifying title fight, and they'll lose the big money they'd have got from Wlad-Peter.

Peter has two mandatories to get through and if Vitali has anything left he will easily beat him on points or ko him. Peter also has to fight the winner of Gomez vs Virchis. I think Peter has such a terrible arc to his punches that he almost lands a rabbit punch every time he throws a right hand. I knew the end was near in the 6th when Maskaev was wobbled and retreated back to the ropes. Every loss Maskaev did the same thing. Once Oleg is badly hurt he never recovers....

I agree with Aussie I think Father Time caught up to Oleg his shots were slow and telegraphed. Well it was good run for an old war horse.....

Peter does it every fight. Without using rabbit punches, I doubt whether he would have ever gotten very far in the division.

If he and Peter ever fight again, Wladimir will be prepared for it, though.

Maskaev won 4th for sure and possibly the5th and 3rd, although I called them even(granted this is the first time I've tried to do a round by round summary). That "open scoring" was sure set against Oleg. I don't like it, just like I don't like 4 titles. There should be one title, and one sanctioning body. I think Wlad will unify them all and hold them for some time, which gives me some relief. I'm glad I didn't get so into this fight like I did the Hatton fight. It took me over 2 days to calm down after that one.

Wow, that was totally underwhelming.

I think I'm losing interesting in boxing. I'm somewhere in between a casual fan and a hardcore fan, but it just seems so limited anymore. On average, it's a lot less exciting than kickboxing and MMA.

I like a good boxing match and I hate MMA lay and pray as much as the next guy, but boxing offers a lot less thrills in my opinion.

edit: It was funny how the HBO guys tried to sell Peter after the weak TKO. Slow, boring, can't talk, hits people behind the head, he'd totally be a great unified champion. I can't quite put my finger on why they were so excited about him. Certainly it has nothing to do with his skin. No, nothing at all.Edited by: nevada

I'm not sure I trust Emanuel Steward anymore. After the fight he was explaining that he and Wlad never complained to the ref about Peter's rabbit punching because 'that's just the way he punches.'

Well so fookin' what? If Peter can't figure out how to stop violating the rules and punching people in the back of the head, maybe he should find another line of work.

I think HBO is just trying to hype a fight they'll televise, by saying Peter is a harder puncher than Wladimir

. Don King will probably keep Peter away from Wladimir for a fight or two. I highly doubt that'll be his next fight. Even though King is a snake he's smart enough to know that Peter will </span></span>get KTFO by Wladimir, but then again he's all about the money so you never know.

It appeared that Oleg was a dead man walking with a punchers chance and looking for a paycheck. He looked old and uncoordinated.

That said, Peter who is in his twenties do not look much better. When he buzzed Oleg in the last round, Oleg could have tied him up, but just gave up.

Peter looked so tired and hittable in this fight without really being pushed nor going the distance. I see Vitali beating him and Wlad having no problems with him. These two looked like old men stalking each other. Wlad displayed alot more energy in his fight.

I don't think this is that big of a deal in terms of white heavyweights, in that everyone knew that Peters was expected to win (the odds were about 4 to one for him to win), Maskeav was the weakest of the beltholders. No biggie in terms of the big picture. Whats more important is white boxers winning eliminator fights to get into title contention. Thats why Povetkins eliminator wins were crucial, as will Virchis vs. Gomez this September. Hopefully we will have wave after wave of white fighters going after title belts.

After Wlad andSam Peter get prior commitments out of the way-assuming Peter finds a way out of fighting Vitali and losing-we can expect Don King to manuever toward anotherwhite/black heavyweight title fight, as with Cooney/Holmes, and rake in the dough. Of course this time, the white man isclearly the superior fighter and,at some point, not even Don King will be able to stand in the way of Wladimir Klitschko being the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

This fight played out as expected. Maskaev is not just slow, he's old and slow. There should be no surprise here. I said this was Peter's fight to lose and it was. I didn't even know that Maskaev had previously filed a lawsuit against the sanctioning body which would have almost certainly assured a loss on points had he not won by knockout. Maskaev's cornerman told him what he was doing wrong: he was leaving his hands out too long after he punches, therefore leaving spots for Peter to counter into. We all saw the result. And it wasn't that bad, Maskaev never looks really bad even when he gets knocked out. What is redeeming in the loss is that Maskaev was closing in on knocking Peter out himself. Peter's ability to take a punch is only average.

Peter was shaken manny times during the fight from staight, inside punches. Peter throws a lot of looping, wide punches and leaves room in the centre for clean, straight shots. That is not a good habit if he is to face Vitali or Wladimir. Wladmir will still play speed bag on Peter's head with his jab alone and a straight right hand will knock him out. Wladimir was coming out of a low point in his career when they last fought and yet he still won 11 out of 12 rounds. The next time, if they fight, Peter will be fighting a cleverer, more relaxed Wladimir. I doubt Vitali will get a chance to fight Peter as King does not want to see Vitali wale away on Peter's head.

This fight should be the end of the line for Maskaev who has had a decent career. His knockouts of Rahman will always be viewed as highlight-reel material. Now say this in a Russian accent: "Good luck with your life and may your sons be as good as you were."

And Wlad has Povetkin and Thompson. Ah, the joys of unifying the Heavyweight division!

Excellent point. And I think the same holds true for the other big fight on Saturday: Maccarinelli vs. Haye... or should I say, Kraj vs. Godfrey?

What can ya say? Our guys id not fair well today but that is the way it goes sometimes. Alot of other posters already pointed out the pbvious. We have so many good young hungry white fighters from Middleweight up (and some good ones below middleweight as well). This is a bump in the road. Realistically. In closing, I am not trying to take anything away from Peter but he looked like sh*t. A 39 year old man with shot legs hit him cleanly several times and made him look very average on several occasions. I use to say to myself yep, no worries, if Peter ever gets too big we have Wlad to take him out. Now, I think there are severwl white fighters that would lay a severe beating on him. Peters has little speed, and not vicious one punch KO power that the announcers have a orgasm about. Another thing, I do not know who announced the fight for the U.S., but the guy who did the broadcast out here (another American) was really really bias against Maskaev. I mean really biased, he specifically said at the end of the fourth "Peter has swept every round so far".

This was an unusual fight. Not in what was happening in the ring. Let;s face it . The white fighter friendliest announcer at HBO is Lennox Lewis. And we have three guys we have all called jock sniffers openly talking about the WB-whatever screwing a white fighter in favor of a black fighter. Man this is an event of historical proportions.

I think Povetkin would dominate Peter. I also know Ibragimov and Klitschko won. Peter is talking trash now how he is the best. Let him talk for now. Hes gonna get his soon. He is slow and doesnt have good technical skills. He wont get far.
