Good AJC article on Georgia OT Watts Danzler (Dalton, GA)...

There are reasons everybody wanted UGA commit Watts Dantzler

As evidenced here as he is being interviewed after his UGA announcement Sunday, Watts Dantzler is a huge fellow. (Photo by Chip Towers)

I've been somewhat surprised to see some of the negative reaction to Georgia's latest commitment, OT Watts Dantzler of Dalton. While a lot of the negativity is coming from rival fans of the Bulldogs, it seems to be based mostly upon 30 seconds of video somebody posted on here showing Dantzler getting beat a couple of times in pass-protection drills during Georgia's recent elite-prospect camp in Athens. Here's the reality: Dantzler is 6-foot-7 (or 6-8, depending on whom you believe) and weighs 330 pounds. That's breathing some rare air, size wise, for a 17-year-0ld. He had more than 30 scholarship offers from nearly every major program in the South and beyond, including Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Notre Dame and Miami, among others. And while pass protection is the one area Dantzler needs to improve on most, he's still a pretty quick guy for his size, as his varsity letters in basketball and tennis will attest. But protecting the blindside is not the main reason the Bulldogs recruited Dantzler. They project him as a smash-mouth right tackle, a dominating run blocker who can seal the flank with size and strength while also providing pass protection. "They may move him to the right side, but he's a good enough athlete that he can play on the left side,"Â￾ Dalton line coach Bill Mayo, who played line at Tennessee, told the Chattanooga Times-Free Press. "He's really a good run blocker, very physical and dominant. In addition, Watts has a lot of football sense. He understands the game, more than just his assignment, but what everybody else is supposed to do. That will help him as he gets into college."Â￾
