Washington lost in overtime to UConn after leading for most of the game. Typical for this tournament. guess I will root for cinderella George Mason or my home state of Texas..but I really don't care!

White Lightning,

The Duke teams you referred to started 2 whites. I guess that counts, for most of us, as a lot of whites, but when you think about it, that's a ridiculous perspective we all have. Other than perhaps the '74 NC State team, which I think started 3 whites (but remember, their star-David Thompson-was black), I can't think of a single NCAA championship team that started more whites than blacks since I started watching the tournament (that would be in the mid-'60s, during UCLA's perennial victories). But I admire your optimism.

Also typical for this tournament is staple all-black teams like UConn spending most of the night at the free throw line. In a close OT game Washington shot 24 FT to UConn's 49! In UConn's three games they have had a 5, 13, and 25 FT shooting advantage over their opponents. If not for the FT advantage UConn would have lost at least 2 games now. But will a conspiracy theory start about UConn like it did with Duke? No way.

KG, I gotta agree with you about Reddick getting mugged the entire Duke game and no calls being made. Surely all the media talk this year about the mythical Duke conspiracy theory hurt them in the tournament.

That's why basketball sucks. Too much rides on the officials especially with closely matched teams like we have in the tournament. That's why it is close to impossible for white teams to make it through the tournament.

Did you all see the sequence where the player defending Redick got his arm caught in Redick's jersey? Redick was being held, grabbed, pushed for about 5 to 8 seconds while in plain sight of all of the referees. No call? I try not to believe in conspiracy theories ,but bs like that makes it tough.

Coach K should have taken one technical to raise cain. Maybe it would have made a difference for the rest of the game. Although, after that Redick was rattled and didn't make any more shots. I believe the sole reason he "choked" was because of the way the game was officiated. Conversely, every time Paulus or McRoberts slightly bumped a defender a blocking foul was called. Let's see if there is a change in the way the international game is called at the world championships. If there is a change in policy I will be forced to become conspiracy theory me.

I agree 100% with JDO, sweet 16s aren't enough. We need championship runs. Does anyone remember UTAH from a couple years back? I doubt it. Yes, Duke had a nice run, but what else do we have? Until some mostly white teams put up consistent W's, I think it's going to be hard to break the stigma in college basketball.

But I must say, I was pleasantly surprised about the number of whites in the tournament. I really haven't followed basketball much for the past couple years, just because I didn't believe there were any teams worth rooting for. After this tournament though, I think next year could be interesting. And that is a step in the right direction.

The comments made earlier about LSU against Duke were on the money. The whole game the announcers used the standard phrases about the LSU players. They were long, they had athleticism, yada, yada, yada. But then LSU plays Texas, an almost all black team and amazingly, all the comments from the announcers changed. LSU now had great rebounders and excellent defenders. It was suddenly their basketball skills that were doing the job. Except for a play late in the game when the Texas center, who is white had a pass stolen. The announcers quickly explained that it was athleticism that accounted for the steal. The truth was, that the center telegraphed his pass and any good defender would have stolen it.

Very, very exasperating!

The LSU vs Duke and the LSU vs Texas games were actually very similar. Duke scored 2 more points than Texas in regulation. Duke struggled early but came on late while Texas stayed close throughout the game. Here are some numbers - Rebounds for LSU against Duke = 42 while shooting 39.3%, against Texas = 36(8 in OT) while shooting 42.4%.
Texas had 45 rebounds(5 in OT) against LSU while shooting 30.4% and Duke had 38 rebounds while shooting 27.7%. The leading rebounder for Texas was a white kid named Buckman, he led both teams with 14 rebounds and had a double/double.

LSU had 9 blocked shots against Duke and 7 against Texas.

LSU had 8 steals against Texas and 7 steals against Duke, Duke had 9 steals against LSU and Texas had 7.

The Duke game actually had a defining moment. If Reddick hits his wide open three Duke goes up by 8 points and probably wins. But he missed and the rebound was converted into a 3-pointer for LSU cutting Duke's lead to 2 points.

It looks like cinderella 11th seeded George Mason is hopefully about to defeat #1 UConn. George Mason is up two and at the free throw line with 19 seconds to go.

Is there such a thing as a safe lead in this crazy maddening tournament? George Mason was up four with under 10 seconds to go and UConn ties it up with about .01 seconds left to send it into overtime.

Just saw over on CNNSI some a**hole afro-phile just annointed Morrison as "the REAL big baby." How's that for a kick in the head. Severely diabetic Morrison pours his heart and soul into the game and comes up short in a heart-breaking loss and gets derided as a big baby by this lame ass loser. I wish I knew his e-mail address he'd rue the day he ever wrote those words.

I'm with you on that poacher. Morrison plays the game with such passion that I sometimes worry about him. There's a reason it's called the "the thrill of victory" and "the agony of defeat" ..Morrison is the perfect example of that. Did anybody see Morrison's reaction when they won the conference tournament in front of thier home fans...he leaped up on the scoring table..facing the crowd and pumped his fist and yelled at them for at least a solid minute. So what if he cried about the heartbreaking loss to UCLA..look how hard we at CF took that loss on this thread.

While I know it's highly unlikely, I'm hoping the loss motivates Morrison to come back and try to win it next year... they should compete again next year either way but man, if he were to come back.. imagine the possibilities!

"...imagine the possibilities!"

if Morrison comes back, the Zags would be very white indeed. of their incoming class, 4 of the five players are white. Colorado POY 6'5" G Matt Bouldin, 7'3" C Will Foster, 6'11" BYU transfer C David Burgess, and former McDonald's All American and Kansas transfer, 6'8" G/F Micah Downs. Downs and Burgess won't be eligible until the end of the fall semester, however.

Mallon was only a junior too, right? He showed some offensive skill in that game againsr Indiana.. what exactly will their rotation look like without their incomings? Raivio, Pendergraft, Mallon, Heytvelt... am I forgetting anyone? And the black players that will be returning to the lineup are Pargo, Cespedes, Gurganious, and 1 player who saw pretty much no playing time Mamery Diallo.. they should be another favorite of ours to root on next year!

yes, Mallon was only a junior, as was Raivio. diallo will most likely be transferring to a lower division school to get more playing time.

as for the rotation, at least to start the season it will likely be this:
G Derek Raivio
G Pierre Marie Altidor-Cespedes or Jeremy Pargo
F David Pendergraft
F Sean Mallon
F Josh Heytvelt

off the bench: G Matt Bouldin, G/F Larry Gurganious, and F Abdullahi Kuso from a juco. Foster will likely red-shirt unless he makes huge, pardon the pun, progress over the summer.

about a month into the season, Downs and Burgess will likely shake up the line-up considerably depending on how everyone has developed. of course, this all changes if Morrison comes back.

Gonzaga is definitely my early favorite for National champs, that is for sure!

Watching a lot of games this year the announcers often said Pendergraft is a a very good offensive player but with Morrison and Batista runnin the show was just playin his role.. hopefully these guys all step up and become big time players, there are a lot of points that need to be made up! Raivio will be the most critical to this teams success, in my opinion.

ESPN's homepage right now has an ultra-closeup of the face of a crying George Mason player. As I posted earlier, blacks often do this, but it's only white players like Adam Morrison who are given a hard time for it. In fact, when a black does it, it's touching, as the ESPN photo is meant to convey. All part of the psy-war against whites in American society.

Don,

You are right about the black players crying. I guess, when I made my original comment lamenting Morrison crying, I should have made clearer that my concerns were how his actions would be treated (and ridiculed) by the anti-white jock-snifers in the press and in the stands. BTW, LSU losing at least gave me a bit of pleasure- I think that "Big Baby" and company were the most loathsome of an odious Final Four. I loved Billy Donovan as a player at Providence, and vaguely recall that the Florida team he took to the Final Four a few years back seemed to have a lot of whites. What happened in those few years to his program? It's the white ex-players like him who really infuriate me with their willingness to run all black basketball programs.

I've decided to root for UCLA because they have 2 whites signed for their incoming recruiting class.. I know I know, I had to dig hard to find a reason to root for either of these two teams, but at least UCLA will have some whites next year...

Speaking of George Mason.....students from that university harrassed the attendees at the AMREN conference a month ago. They also harassed the hotel for letting AMREN have their convention there. Clearly the PC forces are strong at that place. Glad they lost.
