Diaz wins the 11th. K needs a KO to win. So far Diaz better fighter that does not get tired.

Great last rd,I scored the last rd even. I believe Diaz will get the UD. K fought hard, just lost to a more skilled fighter. No shame. Awaiting the decision.

Surpise! Diaz wins via split decision. Good fight. Diaz just a great skilled boxer who does not get tired.

K last fight against Casamajor was a lost opportunity. He was winning that fight. He got careless, and ran into the check left hook and lost Hatton-style.

Oh well, K either learns how to box better, or he will continue to come up short.

Katsidis fought a good fight. The scores were a lot closer than the HBO commentators had it. Bob Papa had it 11-1

I gave Katsidis the first and I believe the 8th or 9th he started to come on strong. Rounds 2-7 is what I think killed him tonight. Once he started going downstairs to the body in the 8th he started to get back into the fight. If they ever fight a rematch he needs to start going to the body early in the fight like Campbell did against Diaz. All in all he fought a good fight

I think the cut also hurt Katsidis in the judges scoring even though they were the result of an unintentional head\shoulder clash but the bleeding made it look like he was getting the crap beat of him. The lack of body shots prior to round seven may have been a belief that he had to win by KO or not at all. He was fighting Diaz a hispanic fighter in Diaz's home town withtwo hispanic judges. Ironically one of the hispanic judges scored the fight for Katsidis.
I do feel Katsidis would benefit from a different trainer. His trainer seemed to think everything was fine the whole fight. He gave no specific instructions such as go to the body more I believe he might well have won by KO or TKO if he had started going to the body in round one. It worked for Margarito against Cotto.

Katsidis trainer's temperament would be great for golfing, or competitive origami, but is not applicable to prize fighting. He should have lit a fire under Katsidis, rather than talk to him along the lines of: " right, keep doing that, lovely, very well, nice pace, quite lovely old boy. WTF!

Don't let the ethnic name fool you Papa is no friend of white fighters. He like a number of commentators is in love with NBA players with 12" twiggy arms because they all would be heavyweight champions....

Very true.

In calling the Olympic fights, Papa was worse than Atlas. He sounded like he was rooting for all the black fighters, not only the Americans, but also the Cubans, Dominicans, etc.

Some white mens' fascination with black athletes seems rather silly to me! I've never seen a "brotha" who has a similar love for white athletes.Edited by: JD1986

Katsidis is back in action this Saturday against Angel Hugo Ramirez. If he wins there's talk of him meeting Julio Diaz this April on Friday Night Fights in California.

From Fightnews.com

According to sources, a bout between former two-time lightweight champion Julio "The Kidd" Diaz (36-4, 26 KOs) and former WBO interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (23-2, 21 KOs) is close to being finalized for Friday, April 10th in a lightweight attraction. The card will be promoted by Two Feathers Promotions, Top Rank, and Sycuan Casino. The venue for the bout would be at the Morongo Casino and the bout would televised on ESPN2's Friday Night Fight series. Meanwhile, Katsidis is also slated to face Angel Hugo Ramirez on January 31st at Cebu City, Philippines.Edited by: Blue Devils

Katsidis is our best shot in the stacked lightweight division but he needs to learn some defense. Blocking shots with his head is not very smart.Edited by: Liverlips

Great win by Katsidis, and I agree, he needs to polish his defense. He should hire Roger Mayweather as his trainer.

Michael Katsidis won tonight - his opponent Jesus Chavez quit on his stool after seven rounds.

This puts him back into the top ten contenders at lightweight.

I saw the fight too, and he put on quite an impressive performance. Nice to see him back on track.

Good performance by Katsidis

I thought Michael lost the first round and maybe the second but after that he slowly beat the fight out of Chavez.

Congrats to Michael for a great win. He displayed improved defensive and a phenomenial stamina in breaking down Escobedo's will. Although he did not get the KO he sure did sap the will of a good fighter in Escobedo. Marquez has a another bad dream to look forward to, albeit at a considerable lower dollar amount.
