Most students do turn 18 during their senior year. My birthday is in February. I turned 18 just before graduation. The cut off date when I was in school was October 15th. If you were born on the 16th, you turned 18. You were probably the oldest in your class, which was dumb. There were kids that didn't turn 18 until they were freshmen in college. The cutoff is now August 15th. My son was born in July. He didn't turn 18 until after HS graduation. Looking back I wish I would have held him back a year. Many parents are doing this now. I have commented on this many times before. Both whites and blacks.
Cade Carney has a June birthday. He was held back, so he turned 19 before going to Wake Forest. The Plumlee brothers were 16 years old as freshmen in HS! My son was 14.
It sounds like Boling has a summer birthday and his parents held him back or reclassified him. Catholic schools do that. Again, someone said I should have done that with my son, transferred him to a private school and reclassified him, but he seemed to do fine with the older kids anyway. Christian McCaffrey has a June birthday. He didn't turn 18 until he graduated HS.
If you have children and they were born in the summer, I would suggest holding them back only because so many are doing it. If everyone played by the rules, it wouldn't be such a big deal. But most people try and get an advantage where their children are concerned.

Boling's success has even forced ESPN to acknowledge him! ((Kornheiser)) and Wilbon even giving him props.

They were talking about him on sports talk radio here in Atlanta......Buck Belew a former UGA quarterback was really playing it up and even talked about Boling’s incredible run down of the leader in the 4X400 final leg

I love this video that I'm about to post because it shows the actual time he is running in the corner of the screen. just to add to his legendary status, Matthew Boling's split time in his 400 meters was 44.74 which is only .05 off the national record for high school. This is after running 3 events before this last 4 x 400 relay. Then take note that Boling is not even winded. Talk about super man in the house!

You're right, he doesn't seem winded at all despite 3 previous events and running all out on this 400m relay leg.
Contrast him with Lemaitre, who is completely exhausted and bent over with his hands on his knees after running one 200m race.

Lemaitre didn't compete in the relays cause he pulled a hamstring in training. He seems to always be in terrible shape.

yep, and he was already there in Japan when he did it I believe. I wonder how long he'll keep going in international track?

He probably got new sponsorship off of his 16' miracle bronze, so it probably runs out in 20' at the Olympics.

The way he is breaking down I expect him to probably call it a day shortly after the Olympics, things have been so bad for him the last couple of seasons I'm not sure he even gets to go to Tokyo.

Hey guys let's save the Lemaitre talk for that thread please. Let's keep this thread about one of the future stars of the sport. Matthew Boling is becoming a household name and he is yet
to graduate from high school. :)

Although I'm sure Boling can run 20.44 or better, I can't find any confirmation that he has run this fast yet.
All lists (including wind aided), show his best time as 20.54 or 20.55. Exact time was 20.545.
I'd love to see him run one more 200m this year, just to see how fast he can go.

Matthew has 2 months to emulate this performance for the exact same age. He has beaten the 2nd placegetter's time and that guy became pretty successful, even after an enforced 3 years in the wilderness

I think Boling can get to that time (10.06 by Lemaitre) if he runs in some of the all-star HS track meets this summer.

It's possible and I hope he does. To be honest though, that run by Lemaitre was incedible at that age as he only had a .02 wind to aid him. He did it by himself under pressure. Oh as
good as Christophe Lemaitre was, to think how great he could have been if he trained properly like Boling does! Boling trains till exaustion according to his coach. He has the right work ethic.

Matt Boling can become one of the most famous sprinters on the planet if he continues to progress and he stays hungry to be the best in the world! He has the potential and I hope he fullfills it! :)

I can't see that 20.44 by Boling as having been accepted by the IAAF. They'd have it up by now - maybe a technical exclusion such as too few officials etc.
He's listed with a NWI 20.55 done 19th April in League City, Texas

I see he is very modest and won't really say he is fast. I also noticed he has a knee support when doing the long jump, not a good sign. I hope he focuses on his sprints only moving forward.

Yep ...lemaitres 10.06 as a junior was and remains absolutely exceptional .....and the reason nobody shakes bolings hand is that he is hammering his opponents out of sight ....best thing as a competitor is walk away ....nothing to do with colour ........

Once again forget about ******* work ethic ....he is an exceptional sprinting talent .....he is young like a spring colt ...holding him back and controlling it will be the key ....he has to have the right coaching ...and a good relationship with his coach ....and has obviously pretty clued in parents ......

Only dwfs who overhype and create too much pressure will cause issues for boling ( a real white American thing)

Although he seems pretty well versed on how to deal with dwf press .....**** modesty ....deep down u have to be arrogant and believe in your ability ....which he obviously does ....
