    Cardinals Profile
    Matt Stewart
    Position: Linebacker.
    Height, weight: 6-3, 239.
    Age: 28.
    Experience: Eighth year.
    College: Vanderbilt.
    Hometown: Columbus, Ohio.

Background: An all-state defensive end in high school, he played defensive end and running back. His father, Van, was a high school football coach in Ohio. A fourth-round draft pick by Atlanta in 2001, Stewart played four years there before going to Cleveland as an unrestricted free agent in 2005. He missed all of last season with a shoulder injury. He started 61 of the 93 NFL games in which he has played. He and his wife, Betsy, have two sons and a daughter.

How he got here: Signed a one-year contract as an unrestricted free agent this spring.

2008 projected role: He will be a backup at inside linebacker. He's also played outside linebacker in his career, so he could swing to that spot if needed.

Currently listed as 2nd string at right OLB, behind Karlos Dansby.

Cardinals cut Matt today. He was beat out by Monty Beisel, apparently.
