I hope Matt gets a real chance to start with either of these teams. We'll be watching....

Some good news. This should help Carson Palmer out. Plus, Matt would do a lot better with an actual QB throwing him the ball.
From Rotoworld:

Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt "hears" that free agent Matt Jones is leaning toward signing with the Bengals.

The Titans' offer is believed to be for just $700,000, and Jones would compete with Kenny Britt, Justin Gage, and Nate Washington for playing time. The Bengals have a deep-threat need opposite Chad Ochocinco, but Jones' best route is the quick slant. Considering Carson Palmer's late-season accuracy woes and loss of arm strength, Jones' big body may actually be a nice fit in the Bengals' conservative offense.

Cincy would be a far better landing spot than Tennessee. The Bengals had no receiving options after Chad Johnson last season as Coles was washed up and Chris Henry. . . well, we know what happened there. Plus Carson Palmer is a real quarterback, not a black quarterback, and should just be entering his prime with the right component parts around him (hopefully TE Chase Coffman will be among them in '10). Jones would have a chance to thrive with the Bengals. In a best case scenario he could even beused as thedeep threat he is as Johnson is 32 and was never a burner to begin with.

Here's another update:

<H1>Bengals make Matt Jones an offer, too</H1>
<DIV =post-info>Posted by Mike Florio on February 11, 2010 9:27 PM ET
<DIV =post->After a full football season during which no one was interested in giving receiver Matt Jones a job, he now has not one but two suitors.

According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals have officially made a contract offer to Jones.

The Titans also have an offer on the table for the four-year veteran who was out of football in 2009.

Reedy reports that the Bengals' offer is believed to be slightly more than the league minimum of $630,000.

Reedy reports that the Bengals also are expected to be interested in receiver Donte' Stallworth, who was cut by the Browns on Monday and who worked out for the <STRIKE>Dolphins</STRIKE> Lions on Wednesday.

Don I think DaaaaMarcus Russell is the gatekeeper for the worst passer in the league, not to mention the King black quarterback. AHDIW is a couple notches above being the worst, at least based on his performance last year, which is to say he kinda sucked most of the time.

True, but I was considering likely starters for 2010, and Russell isn't one right now.

I am still angry that he was screwed over for one whole season. What a joke for a guy who is in his prime years of age at wide receiver. It's ok though as long as he can come back and start next year. Matt Jones can play period! Good luck to him where ever he ends up at.

White lighting, if the story is true about the Titans offering 700k for his services then alot of smart NFL people know he was screwed and know he has talent and will clamor to sign him.

I think alot of GMs and Headcoaches saw the overt success of white recievers this year, know Matt is better than some of them who succeeded.

I have posted before about white receivers who sign with teams that will not use them to their best ability. Will Jones pick the Titans over the Bengals, assuming both offer him contracts?

i just noticed that on the rotoworld, surprisingly i agree with them:

The Titans have offered an undisclosed contract to free agent WR Matt Jones, who was out of the league last season.

We still have a hard time believing Jones couldn't find a suitor last season in a league that has welcomed back Michael Vick and Donte' Stallworth with open arms. The Jags' best receiver in 2008, Jones was on pace for 80 receptions before his three-game suspension kicked in. Should Jones accept the Titans' offer, he would enter the mix with Nate Washington and Justin Gage behind Kenny Britt. Per Profootballtalk.com, he's also visited the Bengals.

I wonder if the NFL GM's all agreed to make Jones sit out a year? It's beyond odd that a WR with Matt's talents couldn't get a chance last year even when teams were in desperate need of a WR (the Bucs for one tried Jones out last year and didn't sign him even though he would have been the best WR on that Caste haven team) and now Jones has 2 offers...

Backrow, clearly it appears that who ever wrote that in rotoworld, has been reading Castefootball!

That article is hilarious Jack. He would have to compete with Kenny Britt, Nate Washington, and Justin Gage for playing time. OMG what competition!

He should sign with the Bengals, especially when weighing Palmer vs. Radio and the respective offensive scemes. As sportshistorian mentioned, whites always sign with the team that is the absolute worst for furthering their career.

Ochocinco and that dimintive smurfette, Lavernaus Coles, are two aging "stars." Former Steeler, Nate Washington, was given a huge, undeserved contract last year during free agency. They drafted Kenny Britt, so he won't start over him either. Justin Gage is a classic black scrub, but as we all know, that never seems to matter. Bo Sciafe, their obese TE, was their only consistent player.

Either way, I'm still glad that he MIGHT be back in the league in 2010.Edited by: Thrashen

I don't get any of this. Early on in the season several teams were supposedly interested in Jones and he had a good workout. Yet he went unsigned. Now all of a sudden the Titans and Bengals are interested again. Have they come to terms with the fact that their receivers suck?

Another advantage to signing with Bengals is that he makes a white QB better, whereas he would be making AHDIW a little better if he signs with Titans. Bengals, if Coffman or Forschi could emerge as starting TE, plus with Jones and Leonard around would all of a sudden become a relatively white friendly team.

If they would have signed him last year, would they have had to pay him what he was already making in his contract previously? or could they have offered him anything like they are now? I think the minimum contract they can offer is 550,000?

Otherwise I would think the gms and teams all were in agreement.

Bengals sign Matt Jones to one year contract!
He chose the better team

"The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the deal is worth roughly $700K. Jones, 27 in April, is a good upside signing with minimal risk at this price. While he isn't even a lock to make the team, the Bengals may have plucked their 2010 starting flanker off the February waiver wire. Laveranues Coles becomes a serious candidate for release. Andre Caldwell will likely remain in the slot, while Jones and Jerome Simpson battle for snaps outside. The move won't preclude Cincinnati from using another pick on a wideout, though."

I think 700k was the same offer from the Titans, wasn't it? That write up is a joke. "not a lock to make the team" Hes going to "battle it out" with Jerome Simpson, oh no! looks like some serious competition lol, haha. Jones is a sure starter whoever wrote that doesn't know what the hell they are talking about.

I guess to make things look fair, the Bengals are also working out Pacman Jones and are considering signing him.

Jones may not read CF, but at least he picked the better team.

The Bengals now have Jones, Brian Leonard, Chase Coffman (who had a completely wasted rookie season), 3 White starting o-linemen (hopefully), Carson Palmer, but justsafety Tom Nelson on defense. They could have up to 7 White starters on offense. It looks like the Steelers may be the onlyteam carrying the coal black torch in the AFC North this year. Then again, it's good never to get one's hopes up when dealing with the NFL and its use of White talent.Edited by: Don Wassall

It was a long time and thread coming but now at long last some good news for Matt Jones. Matt, you have alot of fans at CF rooting for you and I would bet a small amount that Matt is very aware of CF.

Yes indeed! Matt Jones is back!! He was recently listed at a sleeker218...at 237 in the Combine he was running 4.37...so his speed and burst should still be there! This is gonna workout good for him...Carson Palmer is a Top 8 QB in the NFL....this has been bothering me lately he sat out the entire season..yet countless others get plenty of chances....but to make amends the Bengals also signed Pac Man Jones.

And just watch how often the two will be lumped together by the media as equivalent reforming "criminals." Matt Jones has already routinely been compared to the worst thugs and predators in the league in order to create "racial balance," but at least he's signed and with a team where he has a chance to do well.

Thankfully Jones went with the Bengles because AHDIW is a WR killer because he can't throw the ball which is odd for a starting QB. In comparison, AHDIW makes Garrard look like a HOF QB.

I love how on the Yahoo link in the comments section a DWF says that Matt Jones would be okay as a "slot" WR, what a joke they can be...
