Seeing as Hannah Cunliffe is a longtime favorite of this board (and, oh, by the way, Hannah has had a superb indoor season so far, regularly defeating the best collegians--although not Jenna Prandini), I thought I'd check to see how she did in the Simplot Games. It appears she didn't run, but the Blonde Bolt, Marybeth Sant, ran a sick 7.42 to win the event.

Now 7.42 is insanely fast, so I decided to Google Marybeth to see how she's been doing this year. HOLD ONTO YOUR HATS, FELLAS. It turns out she's been doing not too shabby. And that's just a weeee bit of an understatement. Guys, Marybeth Sant has apparently run a 7.30 60m. That's the seventh fastest time in the world this year, as of this video. Seventh fastest INCLUDING the professional ranks.

Enjoy the video.

Thank you my friend. That time is simply incredible. Her form is incredible and the power she generates is outstanding. Is it possible that
in the future we just might see some of these young female sprinters running for the U.S. ? That would be a breath of fresh air. I still
can't believe the margin of he wins. She destroys the field and yet still looks like a beauty queen. All natural and just born to run. Way to
go Marybeth! I kind of hope she goes to Oregon. They are an elite track program and running with Pradini and others can only help to continue to inspire her.

She has indeed signed with Oregon, where she will run side-by-side with Jenna Prandini in the sprints.

WOW! WOW! WOW!
Mary Beth Sant just ran in the 60m final of US Indoor Championships!
So amazing that this HSer could even participate in the Championships AND make the finals!
She finished last, but was running 2nd to last the whole race before easing up at the end.
Incredible to see her in the race running against professionals.
I really love that. :)
Here's to a long and successful career for her.

p.s. Shane Crawford ran in the men's final and had a good time of 6.64!
Wow when was the last time a white man and white woman both made the US 60m finals! Great to see them both there!!!

That is great news. I've been looking for tv coverage all. I don't know why I couldn't find it. Is there anyway to rewatch parts of it?

It sure would be great to see Mary Beth Sant and Hannah Cunliffe make our olympic team in the next 4-8 years. Thanks for the update.

There was also three white 60 meter hurdlers. One was a Division 2 National Champ in 60 meters Tyler Sipes. The other one was Trey Hardee who took a silver medal in the Decathlon at the Olympics. Joshua Hembrough was the other guy. (2 black guys false started) So it was 3 and 3 in that race

Will Leer won the mile and Craig Miller (former Wisconsin Badger) took second. Then came Corey Leslie(Former Ohio State Buckeye) All sub 4. Mary Cain won in 5:05 and must have went out slow since that is outrageously slow for a professional race. Eric Sowinski won the 800 meters as well in 1:47.

You also can go on the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships website to look at results and maybe get video

Sometimes I think you guys fail to realize that white athletes can't outwardly be as racist as posters on the board. You may have just cost Marybeth huge sponsor and endorsement dollars, as well as a lot of awkwardness when dealing with teammates, track fans, and competitors in the future.

She came to the board and proudly screen-capped your post for Twitter. Now she's been forced to backtrack after getting called out over the escaped gorilla reference.

Now SHE got screen-capped, and is going to have to live that picture down on the internet forever.

I agree the coment was not right and should have been deleted. The rules on this forum strictly state that we are here to support athletes of european ancestry but not to cut down others and to use racist remarks. Trackster has always been a good poster and I'm sure he still will be. He made a mistake as most of us do but he has never had a history of talking or posting like that. We here at this board support Mary and apologize for this. She is a great sprinter and hopefully someday can be the next Allison Felix.

damn it... well, that's what happens when some people let their hate out so willingly and openly. go and vent in the ring or hit the bag a bit! now this is ALWAYS going to come back and haunt her.

trackster, she was a great find and you made a lot of good comments but the gorilla reference... man.
way to go. :mad2:
we really need to moderate our comments ourselves, no point name calling like that, especially in high school/college sections where the people in question are likely to google themselves...

I don't think the comment is racist at all. You could argue White drug cheats could be gorillas too. I recall a few Eastern Euro women needing electrollis back in the worst cheating era ever(on the female side). It's not a coincidence that the records of Flo Jo and others have lasted for 30 years +. Ps if she wants to nip this "racist" label in the bud just say she didn't write this and accidentally googled the comments. In other words tell the truth........

Trackster couldn't have known that she would screencap his post and post it on her twitter and that she would face backlash for that, but I would be in favor of much heavier moderation on threads for HS and college athletes. Negative racism like comparing blacks to gorillas should be edited out (unless somehow done in a more innocuous, playful manner) and the moderators could explain why it isn't acceptable, without necessarily punishing the poster unless they are a repeat obvious troll.

Anyway, good luck to Marybeth Sant and I'm sorry that she's going to have crybabies hound her over a misunderstanding.

Sheesh--hate to see a young girl caught up like this, even though I know nothing about her personally. I have some comments:

1) This is depressingly typical that everyone (even most on this board) takes every negative expression as a racial comment. Anyone can scroll back, search my posts, and see that I've suggested on numerous occasions that we should refrain from anti-semitic and anti-black comments. You can also see the dozens of times I've criticized athletes, even white athletes (see my suspicions on Tumi, most recently) for using steroids. I wrote "masquerading as WOMEN" not "masquerading as PEOPLE"--in other words, a reference to the masculinizing effect of the steroids used by athletes such as Pharmalita Cheater. Note that I specified professional ranks and said nothing about any African-American opponents at the high school level. But, you know, advocating personal restraint doesn't mean that I don't believe in freedom of speech, above all. I even support free speech when (sadly) it consists of some douchebag trying to stir up trouble for a teenage girl.
2) Did anyone else check up on Ramel Pope to see what kind of true scumbag is harassing Marybeth for something she didn't even write? He has posted a grand total of four tweets in the year 2013. Three of those are attacking Marybeth. The fourth is suggesting that Wes Welker's wife should commit suicide.
3) Ramel Pope is following some 190 people on twitter. Outside of everyone in the Colin Kaepernick family, and a few comedians, he is following 150 or so political figures. He does not follow Marybeth Sant or any track athletes. Just your garden variety political hit job on a teenage girl.
4) Beyond that, I have nothing to add. I don't have a twitter account, not even a fake one like "Ramel Pope." Marybeth will do fine. Everything blows over quickly and getting attacked by a fake twitter account over a misunderstood comment is part of life nowadays. I suggest the moderators allow this stream to run its course while anyone who wants to express a thought does, then just delete the thread and forget about it. I don't mind if anyone deletes my comments. Life's too short to get into pissing matches with anonymous strangers.

trackster, it's true that your comment was not inherently racist, just those messed up nutjobs will always try and twist it into such.

No worries trackster. I know your a great guy and you can't stand all the cheats in sports like myself. Especially in athletics. I hear racist remarks alot from people everywhere I go. From work to the restaurant to the grocery store or mall. Guess what? I hear more of them from non whites than I do from whites. Racists come in every color and there is no such thing as reverse racism. That is such a stupid name. Anyone can be racist and you have been here for far too long. I have never seen you say anything that bothered me. I just wanted to defend her and state that that one comment was a little over the top. Your right about that poster and about the double standard in
society. It is sickening. Your always welcome here trackster. A few of us here really love the sport of athletics and it would be alot more
boring if you were gone.

Let's get back to supporting Mary Beth and follow her as she finishes high school and on to college. I really would love to see her, Hannah and several others eventually make the U.S. Sprint Team a little more diverse. :usa:
