The report says that Miami has only two running backs on the roster, and cut down to 52 players, one below the league minimum, in order to pick up a back off the waiver wire after this weekend's cuts.

What do you guys think, any chance it'll be a white guy?

NickSaban reportedly wanted to cut Wes Welker a week ago. In the last preseason game Vick played the Welker role -- backup receiver and punt returner. Given that the Dolphins look to be starting 21 blacks and 1 white this season, cutting Vick and his criminal record in favor of a multi-talented white receiver has to be viewed as a suprise.

You underestimate Saban. With such a lack of receiving talent in the NFL he's going to give Vick a shot.

Yahoo: A day after he was cut, Marcus Vick was among eight players signed to the Miami Dolphins' practice squad Sunday.Coach Nick Saban, who cut Vick on Saturday to reach the regular-season roster limit, was pleased that no other NFL team claimed him.

"Sometimes you've got to take a little risk, and we're happy it ended up like it ended up," Saban said of Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick's little brother.

Vick switched to receiver this summer and showed promise at the position after a turbulent career as a quarterback at Virginia Tech. Edited by: Bart

You know, I am actually starting to laugh out loud reading this stuff. It is too ridiculous to believe. I'm amazed that guys like Saban can actually say this stuff with a straight face and expect people to believe it. Even more amazing is the media reports it as though it was the most obvious thing in the world, with nary a raised eyebrow or blink to show that something is not right.

Saban might as well have said, "Yes, we threw that poisoned piece of meat in the trash. But we're really happy that no one took it, because we want it for ourselves. We're glad to be able to continue to eat poisoned meat. Poisoned meat tastes good. And poisoned meat is good for you, too!"

Saban dumps Welker who statistically was one of the best return men Miami ever had to make room for Vick? The community and players held Wes in high esteem. Saban is turning out to be a real snake. I hope they lose every game and somebody stomps on Vick's leg for a change.

Welker's still on the team, Bart. My post above is ambiguous. I meant that it was a surprise that Welker wasn't cut and Vick was in view of Saban's reported dislike of Welker and his belief that there's no diversity in football.

Thanks for the clarification Don. And not a moment too soon.I was just about ready to flame Lou on the Dolphin's message boards. Well, not really. But if he continues down the dark path I will.

I re-read your post, it wasn't ambiguous. It was my perception that was faulty.Edited by: Bart

Maybe you should flame Nick, while you're at it, Bart!

From the article:

The Dolphins (1-5) could use a spark on offense after scoring eight touchdowns in six games.

The mind boggles.

They also say...

"The Dolphins now have their own version of slash -- Marcus Vick. He is expected to play wide receiver for Miami, return punts, and possibly even be used as a weapon in the passing game. But if nothing else, Vick will relieve Wes Welker of some of his duties. The Dolphins already had been asking Welker to do too much".

Welker wasn't doing too much, the problem was that he was the only player doing anything!

you don't "relieve" a player who is producing from any duties he has. you relieve the guys who aren't producing.

Maybe they want Welker to be a reciever and are giving Vick the suicide squad role. Vick would make a good tunnel rat........

This really makes me angry. A person like him deserves to be hanged and his overhyped brother for all I care. Situations like this is the reason I quit football in the first place.
