This guy is turning into an elite player in the NBA right before our eyes. Manu not Duncan is the reason for the Spurs success this postseason. His PPG has gone up in each of his 3 seasons in the league in both regular and post season games. He is actually winning over guys like Walton who love to bash white players.

They probably don't think of him as "white." He will be labeled
Hispanic or latino before its over, despite the obvious Italian
roots of "GINOBILI."

They seem confused. They'll ooh and awe over his athleticism, unselfishness, dazzling drives to the basket, etc. But they'll also call him a flopper. I don't hear black guys that draw contact like Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O'Neal called floppers, so he's treated like he's white in that regard. And during that last game whenever he would drive to the basket and score (like when he blew by Stoudemire and dunked it with both hands,) they kept saying that it was bad defense (just like they kept saying that the Mavericks "let" Nash kick their butts.) They typically don't feel the need to concentrate on bad defense when an exceptional black player makes an athletic play. (Unless he's dunking on Shawn Bradley, of course.)

My guess is that they think he's Hispanic, but who knows.

He doesn't look hispanic at all. He looks white to me. I guess that's because he is.

Most Americans think most if not all South Americans are racially mixed. As was noted in the NBA Playoffs thread, Ginobili's home country of Argentina is 97 percent white!

The white population in this country is around 68 percent and dropping fast. With Canada suffering under a totalitarian government when it comes to free speech and white rights, certain South American countries and Costa Rica in Central America, along with Eastern Europe and Russia, might become increasingly popular places of destination for whites here if the situation continues to deteriorate.

Don, if we are 68% white, that means we are approaching the much talked about tipping point, although it is usually discussed in terms of high schools, it makes you wonder.

This reminds me of an argument I had when Pepe Sanchez
played for the Pistons, with his white skin, light brown hair, he
looked white to me ... but most figured if you're from South
America, and with a name like that, you can't be, regardless of
what they saw with their eyes.

Ginobili is on the front cover of the latest ESPN The Magazine. The article is about the Spurs as a team and it's a pretty good article, gives them lots of praise for their teamwork, chemistry and lack of gangsta types.

One tidbit I learned in the article is that Tim Duncan is a native of St. Croix, one of the Virgin Islands in the West Indies. U.S. blacks who comefrom the West Indies have a higher standard of living than American blacks who trace their roots directly to Africa, and they are also usually much less hostile in their attitudes toward whites. What's even more impressive is that many West Indian blackshave only emigrated to the U.S. in recent years yet have quickly surpassed the blacks who have been here for 400 years and are always whining -- along with their enablers in the white power structure -- about "white racism" holding them down.

I might just have to go and but that magazine for a
change.I give them a little credit.Last weeks had Drew
Bennett and Brian Roberts in 2 of their feature articles.
Now Ginobli on the cover.Hmmmm.A breath of fresh air for
a change.It's not much but hey,it's a start.Ginobli is
going to be so good for all of the young kids, high
school, college and even european players to emulate his
style. That is what people like to see these days. The
nice thing about Manu is that his fundamentals are as
good as ever.He can still play defense, pass and shoot
with the best of them. It's just nice to see him taking
people off the dribble too. They can't guard this guy!!

Hmm... does that mean Napoleon Kaufman was really German? Despite what
everyone could see with their very own eyeballs?

Just like whites had to white flight to the suburbs when blacks
migrated to the cities, it's a good chance that we'll start ditching
the Southwest and other areas where the influx is strongest.
Many rural areas that don't offer many jobs will continue to be
white for a long time, I think.Non-whites won't go to places
that don't offer jobs. It would be cool if whites could sustain
themselves in those areas, perhaps by having home
businesses, being partially or fully self-sufficient, etc.

Going abroad is becoming more and more of an attractive
possibility. The cost of living is much lower elsewhere, for
starters.

Napoleon Kaufman ... nice.

There was a skit on "In Living Color", 15 years ago by now,
about a West Indian family, and how they all held three jobs.
The few I've known aren't down with American blacks.

Yeah, the flight has to go somewhere, but it seems as though it would have to stop at some point.

Let the finals begin soon.I want to see Ginobli and
Wade going at it head to head. They are two of the most
exciting players out there.I can see Manu rising his
game even more in the finals. He just might put down a
few more 35 to 40 point games. This guy is so good!

JD074, What can I say, its Memorial Day, and things around the house are slow. I really do like Ginobli, but most of the time I just get to hear him on the el radio. Ever since my folks moved back in around Thansgiving, I haven't had the satellite to keep up with everything in sports. So, instead of watching tv, I find myself on this computer, surfing, reading, and posting.

I've got to start my summer job later this week, so I imagine I won't be on here as much for a while, except on weekends. I really do enjoy posting on here, as it is an outlet for me like no other I have been able to find. I hope it keeps growing. I also hope the fantasy football league grows and does well. I'm looking forward to it, as I have never played it before.

I can honestly say that I spend more time on this site than any other one I have ever come across. The only thing I do on the computer in which I spend more time is email. But later this week, I'll be doing data analysis on the computer 8 hours a day for at least a couple of weeks, then it will be time to write about it.

Your welcome here any time Col.Reb. Good luck with your
summer job.You should be seeing some of these games. It
is one non stop Ginobli highlight reel.Tonight alone,he
must have made at least 5 sportscenter highlight plays.
He does moves like the late great Pistol Pete Maravich
used to do.Manu had 28 points tonight but they didn't
play him enough. In the first half,he had 16 points in
only 19 minutes.Simply amazing but props to the Suns for
holding on to win & force a game 5 on Wednesday.

I will try to catch that one. I was reading some of the press on last nights game. Anyone who can do what the Pistol did must be great.

Well, this is when the stars shine. If Manu wants to have
a chance to be in that category,he needs to have a big
game tonight and the rest of the series. After having
huge games in the first 2 games,Detroit has roughed him
up and really slowed him down.I fully expect Ginobli to
put up between 30-35 points tonight. He is just too good
to continue to struggle like he has.I will predict the
Spurs win in a close game,102-98.

Does anyone knoe Manu's vertical. It has to be at least 40 in because he is literally flying through the sky when he dunks. And way to go Manu for an excellent playoff performance to show the world just how good you are.

Not to mention his rebounding. I saw a number of times when he outjumped the big guys to grab a rebound. He is definitely a flyer.

Manu had a monster game last night, dropping 46 on the Cavaliers including 18 in the 4th quarter when he didn't miss a shot. check out this stat line: 15-20 FGs (8-11 3-pt fgs), 5 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals, 1 block, and just 1 turnover.

perhaps "more impressively" to the black-worshipping masses, he put up most of those numbers with Lebron "King" James trying to guard him.

Manu has been on a tear this season, and deserves to be on the All-Star team, especially when you consider what he's been doing without backcourt mate Tony Parker.

as an aside, Lebron had a good game (he scored 39) but even with his big night it took him 31 shot attempts to get his points.

Manu is just deadly.

Manu is the reason I got into basketball. It frustrates me how underated he is. I like Tony Parker, but I do feel he steels Ginobili's limelight (not on purpose because Tony's a good guy). Whenever I watch the Spurs the American pundits just bang on about Duncan and Parker and oftently fail to mention Manu. Manu is not just athletic he is also intellegent and skillful. Something that very few NBA players possess all in one. He must be the best player in the NBA who starts on the bench?
