while it's been stated by many that the majority of white folks have a thicker torso, shorter arms, lesser jumping ability, and a generally more muscular build than black folks, the beauty of white diversity is that our gene pool not only provides variance in eye/hair color and a lot of beautiful women, it also provides a large degree of genetic variance in body type.

therefore, i started this thread to highlight the stereotype-breakers of NCAA basketball. while most of the collegiate guys we see on the court are muscular big men or spot-up shooters, there are plenty of long-armed, high flying athletes out there who can run and jump with any of the black boys.

feel free to add any guys that i miss, because i'm sure i'll miss a lot.

one of my favorite players is BYU senior shooting guard, Lee Cummard.

A 6-foot-7 guard from Mesa, Ariz., Cummard was the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year and received Associated Press All-America honorable mention this past season. The do-everything junior swingman led the Cougars in scoring (15.8), field-goal percentage (.569), three-point percentage (.472) and blocked shots (1.0) while ranking second in rebounds (6.3), assists (3.5), steals (0.9) and free-throw percentage (.857). Known as a fierce competitor and all-around contributor, Cummard also led the team in shooting, steals and minutes while ranking second in assists and blocks and third in scoring and rebounds as a sophomore.

Cummard ranked in the top-10 in the MWC in eight statistical categories a year ago.

A three-year starter and top perimeter defender, Cummard has good ball-handling skills, excellent shooting range and the toughness to rebound and finish in traffic.

Cummard is a high flyer who brings it on both ends of the court, but looks effortless despite dominating games in a variety of ways.

Gonzaga features two long and athletic white men.

6-11 senior power forward Josh Heytvelt is as talented a big man as there is in the country. More comfortable facing the basket than with his back to it, Heytvelt can really stretch the defense out with good range and a nice stroke. Though preferring to face up, he is an excellent target in the post thanks to his soft hands, excellent touch and ability to finish strong at the rim.

Plays high above the rim once again, now that he has recovered from multiple foot/ankle injuries, and runs the floor very, very well. Heytvelt has All-American talent and skill, but off the court issues have stifled his development. If he shows consistent dominance this season, Gonzaga could be poised for a deep run in March.

6-8 senior shooting guard Micah Downs, a former McDonald's All-American, is often overshadowed by his Gonzaga teammates. however, the elite athlete has accepted his role as the team's defensive stopper, and despite being thinly built is athletic enough to guard anyone from opposing point guards to power forwards.

UMass 6-8 senior forward Tony Gaffney is arguably the nation's top defender, and one of its top all-around players. Yet, coming into the season Gaffney wasn't a preseason Atlantic 10 all-conference selection (and with 15 players chosen to three teams, it's not exactly an exclusive group). He also missed out on the conference's preseason All-Defensive team. Furthermore, an Internet search failed to reveal a single prescient blogger tabbing Gaffney as a "player to watch" this season.

Gaffney is eighth in the nation in rebounds (11.5 per game) and second in blocks (4.9 per game). He's also averaging 11.3 points and 2.3 steals per game, while shooting 54 percent from the field.

Not bad for a guy who transferred to UMass after two years at Boston University, paying his own way during his first year in Amherst before earning a scholarship.

A high flying athlete, Gaffney should be skyrocketing up the NBA scouts' draft lists.

Simply awesome as usual, JimmyC. All of those guys are elite athletes with the slim and long build that elite black basketball players usually have.
